As much as it would suck some dented car panels or broken window is still not worth shooting someone over. I'll refrain from the jokes about wheelchairs on this one as I believe we have some forum brothers in this situation Edited by Dad03

Indeed, one cannot simply mow down pedestrians (unless you're really really sure no one is looking ;) ) but the question is who is to yield and two contradictory statements were offered, the first a "FTFY" to TMF's statement, the second one apparently backed by law. I was simply pointing out the contradiction.

It’s not a contradiction; both have a duty to yield and use due care to prevent an accident.

Having been to Gatlinburg a bunch of times, I've noticed at the crosswalks people will just step right on out and expect that traffic will stop. Ideally, that is what should happen, but some folks will walk parallel to the road and suddenly make a 90 degree turn at a crosswalk without warning or indication that the are crossing. I think it's a 20 mph through there, but I go a little slower after seeing this a few times.

Crosswalks are really a mess here. Though I like right turn on red, it complicates things when pedestrians are around. In the UK, at a zebra crossing, the pedestrian is supposed to wait for traffic to stop and the traffic knows it is supposed to stop. I see a lot of confusion at the few non-intersection crossings here.

Dented sheet metal is one thing. Breaking windows when the driver and/or passengers are in the car is a whole different ball game. Flying glass can cause grievous injury. And after a window is broken, you're one swing away from a head injury. Threatening to break windows when my little boy is in the car is begging to be shot.

I was always taught not to treat people with disabilities any different from others.  Hmm, seems that works both ways now.

Seriously though.  I'd say anytime an incident occurs and you make it out unharmed without shooting then you did the right thing.
