Well now I am totally :panic: and :hyper: and not sure which way to go. Do I get the shot or not get the shot????? That is the question??? I was all ready to do it till I read some of the posts. As far as having chicken pox when I was a kids. I am going to say there was a 99.9% chance that I did because like I said, there was 5 of us boys all 2 years apart and one of us was always bringing something home as passing it around  generously and many times my Mother was dealing with two of three sick kids at one time. One of my brothers even contracted Polio at age 4 and was one of the first patients to be placed in the Iron Lung in America back years ago and was the youngest to be in one. I don't remember much about it because I was on 2 when he got sick. I do remember as I grew older, going and visiting him in that big round looking shinny tube looking machine. It was only 10 months after he got the Polio that the Vaccine came out and I got introduced to needles cause we all were getting out polio shots. I got 5 in all and I still hate needles to this day but will admit. The needles are smaller and sharper  than they were back in early 50's. I do tolerate them more now at least...............    Don't wanna  get

So, where exactly does the guy who never got chicken pox but was vaccinated against them in his mid 20's stand on the whole shingle thing? This is more confusing than the ebola.

You "should" be perfectly safe from developing shingles. Or Chicken Pox that could lead to it later.

Thanks, Oh Shoot.  I didn't know the shot would help after you've already had shingles. I'll talk with my doc on the next visit.

Yep, from CDC (though they may not be our fav org right now):

"Even if you have had shingles, you can still receive the shingles vaccine to help prevent future occurrences of the disease. There is no specific time that you must wait after having shingles before receiving the shingles vaccine. The decision on when to get vaccinated should be made with your health care provider. Generally, a person should make sure that the shingles rash has disappeared before getting vaccinated."

Well here is a little kicker regarding taking zostavax. The Shingles Prevention Study had an exclusion criteria of previously having had shingles. This was the big study (something like 38k patients) for the vaccine. Still, most eligible people should take the vaccine. IMO.

I can't recommend it for you or not and I would get more information out of my doctors as to just exactly why they do not recommend it and make them explain it in more detail. I have been meaning to ask my doctor but keep forgetting when I am there to ask her. I did manage to remember to get my flu shot from her anyway and didn't have to go to Walgreens like last year. The way I look at it is if there is something out there I can catch that is going to make me feel miserable and be in a lot of pain and there is something out there that will help me avoid it I'm not going to pass up the chance to avoid the pain. That is what makes me so angry about all these doctors that refuse to write any type of pain medication prescriptions. Pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars to create medications that will help keep people out of pain and these holier than thou doctors won't write them for any of their patients. That doctor would see me one time and one time only. Even if I didn't need pain medications. He would not see me again just because of his morals or lack of them......................jmho

Chemotherapy does a number on immune systems. My oncologist recommended I not take the vaccine, at least till he had time to research its on cancer survivors.

So I will wait until I find out. Personally, being unsure of whether or not I ever had chicken pox, I would like to be able to take it.
