Did I mess up?

Recommended Posts

Kinda been looking at buying a decent safe. Talked to a Cannon rep and Aaron Parker representing Champion and Superior at the NRA Meeting. Saw Nashville Armory was having a big sale with Liberty safes. Went down there this morning to look at the Fatboy JR and they had marked it down below what the sale price was. Was gonna buy it but decided I'd wait till we were in our new house. It was gonna be $1099.99 plus tax. $100 less than the sale price. Maybe I should call in the morning and see if they still have one. The general manager said he'd honor that price with me.

Yeah. General manager said he would hold till we move into the new house. I just know I have to buy a new refrigerator and put up a fence pretty soon after moving. But I won't have a mortgage payment for a couple of months so.

Hate to be Johnny Raincloud, work backwards, and not forwards.  Meaning, what are you looking for in the safe, then find the safe that you want.  Don't start with the price tag first.  I too am in the market for my 2nd safe, and I am looking at it from this perspective:  Cutting prevention, Prying prevention, Heat prevention, size, capacity, and light features.

Couple of things.....

Buy as big as you can afford. What you think will work (and for $1K it's probably pretty small), will likely be outgrown in short order.

Do NOT even think about buying a Cannon. Their customer service is abysmal at best and non existent at worst. Literally told the head of CS to F himself after many attempts on my part to be accommodating.

+1 on big as you can afford, I started with a 5 slot with 3 pistol compartments and filled it in less than a year, and had to get a gun cabinet to put my everyday carry weapons and essentials in (ammo, holsters, ear protection) and a couple lower end rifles/muzzleloaders.

Everyone thinks moving a safe is a big deal it really isn't.  I've moved my 700 pound safe 4 times.  An appliance dolly and a friend are all you need.  It helps to load it onto a trailer as opposed to putting it in the back of a truck as you don't have to lift it as high.  Get a piece of cardboard under it and scoot it across the floor.  If you are crossing a wood floor spray some furniture polish along your path and buff it with a rag, the safe will move over the floor effortlessly.
