Don’t worry about holding anybody back. Be safe and accurate and the rest will come. The tactical-bro types will tell you competitive shooting will teach you bad tactics and will just get you killed. Ignore them - half those guys went to a match to teach everybody how it’s done and got their asses handed to them, primarily because they’re just not nearly as good as they thought. USPSA, IDPA, etc are not defensive training, but they will quickly make you immensely more competent with a gun. I think Massad Ayoob said shooting matches are not gunfights, but gunfights are shooting matches.

I would go with a Ruger. LPC Max, Security 380, Security 9mm, or the new RMX. I would not buy a Taurus. The Hellcat and the P-365 re worth every penny. Good luck! My first conceal carry pistol was a Smith and Wesson Sigma. it was cheap and looked like a Glock. It is a classic example of a bad pistol. My second conceal carry gun was a Taurus model 85UL. The cylinder would jam. I sent it back to Taurus, they kept it for 6 months, sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. I fired 8 shots and it jammed again. I gave a Sigma away and traded the Taurus for a Glock 19. I still have the Glock. It has never failed me in 15 years.

I've heard this more than once. As I said, I am new to shooting and am hooked. I want to get better. I watch a LOT of videos, but would prefer hands-on training, and his 7-month course seems pretty intense. I was worried I would not be ready for such a program, or hold other people back, so I emailed him and let him know of the little training I've had. He said he'd accept me into the program. I am excited.

Thanks! I had not seen those. Not a lot of details on their site - how heavy are these? Decent wall thickness?

Safety Reminder for Buyers and Sellers This is an automatic reply meant to protect you as a buyer and a seller on TGO. Use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to research who you are dealing with. Please come back and leave feedback for each other after the transaction is complete. Your experience will help others. Never agree to use an electronic form of payment to buy or sell a gun! None of the electronic payment services will protect you against fraud in a firearms transaction. They all have terms of service FORBIDDING the use of their services to buy/sell guns. DON'T DO IT. Be very wary of anyone who insists on brokering a deal in private or outside of TGO. Scammers almost always prefer to operate out of the public eye. The complete Trading Post Rules and also some more helpful suggestions can be found by clicking this link. Everyone should read them at least once! ~~~ This was an automatic reply ~~~ -
