Unless something has changed lately, I believe, you can transfer a long gun across state lines. You can’t transfer a handgun without involving an FFL. Please let me know if this has changed.

If he is a resident of a different state than you, he will have to transfer through an FFL with a 4473 completed. Whether a sale or gift is immaterial. It’s the interstate transfer that’s the key point.

So, my nephew is coming to visit from out of state. He'd like to aquire a long gun I've had for a while. It's legal for him to own in his home state. Can he legally aquire this gift from me and take it home? I know if he was buying it from a local shop they'd have to do a 4473 prior to sale. I'm not an ffl, he's not buying it.
