  1. When attempting to post pictures from imgur, after copying the address into the external url box, the box turns red and the picture won't post. Any idea what's going on here?
  2. I'm going to throw in my two cents as a safety professional. Best practices when handling lead: - wear disposable gloves - use ventilation, an exhaust hood is ideal, but the idea is to get dust or fumes away from you. Beware that using makeshift equipment such as a fan is going to blow lead dust all over your work area. - wear long sleeves and long pants, take them off and wash them when you are done handling lead. - don't eat, drink, or smoke while handling lead, or in areas where lead is handled. - a respirator is a good idea, but you don't want to buy one off of the shelf and start using it without the proper knowledge and precautions. You need to be fit tested before wearing a respirator. A fit test ensures that the respirator makes a good seal on your face. IIRC some medical clinics, such as Concentra offer this service. You also need to get a medical evaluation to make sure that your heart and lungs can take the added stress of a respirator. Also, store your respirator in a gallon size zip lock bag when you are not using it, use the correct filters, and change filters at a regular interval. This is a very brief summary of protecting yourself from lead dust. Avoiding contaminants is complex. Just wanted to put this out there to 1) inform and 2) possibly prevent someone from an overexposure because they thought they were protecting themselves, but their method wasn't effective. Not only do you need to use engineering controls and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) they need to be used properly.
  3. Unless you are eating the coyote, or tanning the hide, overkill isn't an issue.
  4. I did way more research on coolers than I should have before making a purchase. Here's the thing, they are all going to hold ice for 10 days in January. Nobody is bragging during the month of July that their Yeti just held ice for 10 days. I wound up buying a 55 quart Lifetime from Walmart for just under $100. Priming the cooler is crucial to ice retention. I have the ability to put mine inside of a freezer for a little while before I use it and it does a really good job. It will keep ice over the weekend if I prime it correctly and keep it out of direct sun. I've been really happy with the cooler and its durability and construction. Lifetime is also made in the US.
  5. You don't strike me as the kind of fella that would want to be associated with that crowd. I hope your party is like minded and y'all have a fun and successful hunt. If you are hunting the area that I believe you are you will be East of Tellico Plains along the Cherohala Skyway. Beautiful area, if you get off the pavement and use the forest service roads you won't have any issues. When I used to do a lot of dual sport dirt biking in that area I never had any issues with the hunters that I crossed paths with back there (of course I was polite, and didn't go flying past them). Ironically the hunters out in the woods were easy to get along with and pleasant to speak with. It was the ones with a dog on the hood running down a heavily traveled paved road that would get mad because a motorcycle was too loud and would spook their dog.
  6. I lived in that area for a while. What Peejman said. You won't be taking any long shots. The norm around there for bear hunters is to drink heavily, trespass, assault landowners when confronted about trespassing, hunt from the road, and block the road for long periods of time. As such, a lot of people who generally don't mind hunting, are fence sitters, or even people that hunt, but don't bear hunt, don't care for bear hunters. It's a very strange dynamic and people either seem to be very pro bear hunting, or very anti bear hunting. Just some observations that I thought I would pass along
  7. That would explain a lot with pigs since they are breeding year round. In the winter when food isn't as plentiful it would make since that the sow isn't getting the nutrients that she would get in the summer.
  8. I've had 3" turkey loads knock me backwards while kneeling before. (I was in an odd stance because of where the turkey came in from.) I don't want that kind of power without a stock. Yes, I did get that turkey.
  9. Help me out here. I'm pretty experienced cooking wild game. But I need some help with pork. This last one was tough and stringy even though it was <50 pounds. I barely cook deer (as in rare), but I don't want to go that route with pork.
  10. No doubt. I saw a pretty nice buck in my driveway a couple of weeks ago. Snapped a pic, but I haven't put out cameras, salt licks, or corn this summer. Focused on pigs.
  11. That's one of the things that I like about pig hunting, there are a bunch of ways to do it and none of them are wrong.
  12. Your going to have this type of thing when the fairgrounds are within walking distance of public housing.
  13. Looks like someone may have not paid any attention to the sign. https://fox17.com/news/local/yells-of-shots-fired-sparks-panic-at-wilson-county-fair-several-detained-after-fights
  14. After I killed my first pig I pretty much lost all interest in hunting anything else.
  15. I didn't think that it was bad at all running light birdshot. I ran some hotter OO through it and it was noticeably more, but still manageable.
  16. I had one gifted to me. It's probably not something that I would have ever purchased for myself. It took a little getting used to but I really like it. Hard to beat for a house gun imo. Also it's the first Mossberg I've ever owned. I've always been a Remington guy. The location of the Mossberg safety seems more ergonomicly friendly.
  17. A couple of buddy's and myself were able to get on a land owner exemption list and are doing some pig hunting. I took the first one the other night. We are hunting over a feeder that is on a timer and the pigs seem to be all trained up. I spent a bunch of years hunting pigs unsuccessfully but I believe I've finally figured out enough to have some success within the past couple of years. I certainly don't mind to discuss strategy and tactics, but I will not discuss where I am hunting. This one was a smaller 40ish pounder that came in with 6 others. My buddy and I agreed to shoot on 3, he counted and forgot to shoot, and I took home the bacon. He was still nice enough to help me dress it and it was on ice in less than an hour after shooting. One thing for sure is that the rest of them don't stick around. I swear they were fine before the bullet hit this one. http://imgur.com/gallery/uDv3d45 For some reason I am unable to embed the picture.
  18. Dampened the wood and set it in the sun for a few hours. Everything went back together nicely.
  19. Nothing like being able to step it your backdoor and shoot. That being said, I don't shoot nearly as much as I should.
  20. If you like the smell of skunks, I've noticed that Ascend Amphitheatre is absolutely eaten to with them during any concert there.
  21. I've noticed that my 870 gets extremely hard to cycle, as in I have to beat the butt on the ground, when it gets filthy. That's how I know when to clean it. Honestly, I don't clean anything but black powder guns as long as they are working correctly.
  22. One of my dogs got sprayed towards the end of April. That part of the yard stank for weeks, I got a whiff the other day actually. I didn't get the worst of it though, two of my friends were parked in the area with their windows down.
  23. Thanks, it is an immobilizer key. I called Ron Hibbard Toyota today, they quoted me $364 out the door for a new key and programming. And they have to have the car there to do it. Half of that was for the key itself. Keys are available on eBay for less than $10. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they will cut the eBay key. I'll probably just trailer it there if they will.
  24. Haha, thanks, I'm a pro at losing, and usually finding stuff. On the day in question I got home from work and changed clothes and vehicles, then set out to cut a couple of yards, because I do that as a side business. I went to the gas station, cut two yards and went home. It was upon returning home that I realized the key was missing, as it has my house key on it as well. I checked at the gas station, walked both yards thoroughly, and turned my truck inside out looking for it. Pretty certain they slid out of my pocket while I was in the mower and fell into the grass somewhere.
  25. The way I understand it the computer in the car has to be programmed. So I would have to have it towed to the dealership. Of course if I can disengage the trans I could probably get it on a trailer and take it myself. For what I would save by doing (probably not much) that I just assume have someone come out and do it.
