  1. I lived in a house in a very rural area about 30 minutes outside Maryville, yeah not close to anything. All of my neighbors except for one would shoot in their yards and didn't care when I shot in mine, but there is always that one. This one neighbor, who lived a half a mile away, would call the law everytime myself, or anyone else started shooting. I could sense the deputies frustration. They were always very friendly, would explain the shooting got called in so they were checking it out. Told me I wasn't doing anything wrong and to carry on. Usually talked a little gun talk as well. Point being, unless you buy 1000 acres you may make someone mad. On the other hand, my mother in law lived in a subdivision outside of Knoxville, everyone on her culdesac would shoot into the side of the hill behind there houses. These were maybe 1/2 acre lots. Safe, but tons of houses around. Never seen anything else like it, everyone just got along.
  2. Off topic but you're right, starter homes are no longer being built. The days of a 3 bed 2 bath, 2 car garage on an acre are gone. Instead we everything is 4k sq ft or bigger and start $400k+ in this area. It takes both spouses working high paying jobs to afford that.
  3. We don't need a soccer team. We don't need a football team. Nashville started to go downhill when we got the Titans. I'm not against a soccer team, but I'm against tax money being used too get and maintain a soccer team, period. And I'm sure that's exactly what will happen.
  4. They should have had one of those "Coexist" stickers on their bikes.
  5. I bought a bottom of the line trail cam a couple of years ago for $40, a lot of retailers seem to have sales on them this time of year. It works fine, even in the dark.
  6. Seems they are all geared to the weekend warrior who has an unlimited cash flow. I grew up with Southern Outdoors and read every issue cover to cover from the time I was about 8 until it went out of publication. I subscribed to Field and Stream for a while, and I did enjoy Outdoor Life but haven't read one in years. The last several times I've picked up an outdoor mag it seems to be all about guns and gear that aren't in my budget, and junk that I don't need, headlined with articles such as "What you need to know to bag the big buck" which seldom has information that I don't already know. The final straw for Field and Stream for me was when they did the "Perfect truck gun" article, can't remember what it was, but the price tag was well North of a grand. There is a segment of working class people who want to see reviews on affordable gear, butchering techniques, recipes, and a good story every now and then. Write a magazine for us and we'll buy it.
  7. Is Charlie still running the place? I spent a lot of time there in college. Charlie was always really helpful and taught me a lot, only person I've ever seen fall asleep on a live range though.
  8. My apologies, it's a Walmart contract gun purchased at Walmart. Maybe that's the case with these Savages, maybe it isn't. Just trying to keep someone else from having a bad experience.
  9. It's a Hatfield single shot. My understanding is that Walmart contacts these guns out. They are super poor quality. When the consumer has a problem they can return the fun to the store and the manufacturer will refuse to help, so you are stuck with a junk gun. If be very wary.
  10. No more Walmart guns for me. A kid I take hunting got a Walmart shotgun, it's aweful. I had to mess with the trigger to get it to where a 10 Year old could even pull it. The door and finish are terrible as well.
  11. You will be very hard pressed to trap them. Snares and let holds are the best methods for trapping if you do go that route. I don't like snares, they kill indiscriminately. A cushioned leg hold is an option, they too don't discriminate, but at least they don't kill.
  12. I've bought a lot more guns than I've sold. I've been in a couple of sketchy situations buying, but I've never been in one selling. I sold one on here and that went smooth as could be. I've have met several TGO folks though, and there isn't a single one that I have met that I wouldn't invite into my home without thinking twice. TGO is as safe a bet as you can make when it comes to safe selling.
  13. The pro gun community is too divided. Every gun rights event that I've attended has been shadowed by idiots doing stupid things, such as opening carrying rifles or militias turning the event into a membership drive. Hickok recently posted about Confederate flags being displayed at an event. I'm a supporter of the Confederate flag but a gun rights event isn't the place for it. I'm hesitant to attend such events because consistently something happens that gets the media's attention, and it's never anything good. These events are almost an anti gunners dream. From their side, what more do they need than people open carrying AR-15s, talking about militias, carrying handguns in cheap holsters, and waving around Confederate flags to make our entire side look like a bunch of Fudd idiots? I apologize, as I don't believe this post contributes positively to answer the question "What am I doing?" However, there are reasons that I'm hesitant to do anything other than keep my Representatives posted on how to best represent me.
  14. Never in my lifetime do I recall so many people who formally had a position of some sort, who believe that their opinion is relevant. If Steven's wanted his opinion to matter he shouldn't have retired, thank God he did.
  15. There is a lot of local outrage from teachers on this topic. It boils down to them being anti gun, but I've heard several threaten to quit their jobs of teachers are allowed to be armed. Fine with me, the school system was looking for teachers when those were found. Frankly, I don't care for their attitudes regarding the situation.
  16. Channing Wilson, think DAC. Wish he head more material. https://youtu.be/ilV01MW5dwA
  17. I could be wrong here, but can a business prohibit someone from doing something if they are otherwise qualified? Can a bar come out and say "we don't think people should be allowed to buy beer until they are 40, so you have to be 40 to drink here" would that be okay, or is that age discrimination?
  18. I've been using a Lowrance Hook 3. It's about as cheap as they come. It's down scan only. I use it to know the depth, as well as find structure, holes, and drop offs. I recommend it if you are looking for a basic unit. The screen is a little small, but I can use the big depth numbers and spin it 180 degrees and see it from the front of my pontoon boat, it's mounted on the console. It was about $100, the Helix 4, is in your price range as well, and the Helix 5 is barely out off it.
  19. As a former Walmart loss prevention associate, there it's no way I'd confront him. That $12 just isn't enough to confront armed people while being unarmed. It's been 8 years but back then it was against company policy to engage with a shoplifter who was known to be armed. Additionally, it's against the Walmart creed to be on the sales floor in the vicinity of customers.
  20. I don't like talking to people on the phone. A few quick emails or texts then meet up somewhere that's not out off my way if I'm selling. If I'm buying I usually go towards the seller. I had a boat motor for sale a couple of years ago that needed work. I had it on CL and wound up having very lengthy conversations with at least 3 different individuals. Asking questions about the motor was fine, but 2 of them we're wanting to work out trades, but never could seem to meet up. One of them strung me along for 2 months and another for over a month. I think some people just like to waste other people's time. Of course I have a knack for winding up with things that are really hard to sell.
  21. I have one that is at the RIA facility now because it won't feed anything except FMJ. IMO the finish on them is of poor quality and that really need a trigger upgrade. Good for the money if you can get it to run right.
  22. Check out Alabama, and Georgia. Tennessee makes it too dang difficult to hunt pigs on a casual basis. You have to be put on a list as a designee to hunt them on private property. Only 10 people can be listed per property per year. I have a couple of friends who are on leases as designees, but they go a couple of weekends per month year round, but with what they pay for the lease they kind of need to.
  23. I apologize if this has been previously posted, I didn't find it when I searched. I'm speechless at the stupidity of this. Just not worth the risk to me. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/turkey-hunting-410-revolver-yep-done/
  24. Do yourself a favor and stay away from those Hatfields. They are junk. Kid I take hunting got one and I can't say enough bad things about it. Much better off to find an old used single. Oh and .410 runs about $12/box.
  25. You're probably right. This forum seems to be made up of people that have better than average knowledge of the issues. Yet half of the people here choose to patronize those anti 2A businesses. If we can't even get the gun community on board with a boycott there is no chance that we will ever have an impact.
