I can make a recommendation about what I don't want to hear... Politics I realize politics are important in the gun world, but it feels like here lately the two go hand in hand all of the time. I just want to hear about guns, stories about guns, project guns (not Hi Points, lol), improving your guns, improving yourself as a shooter, etc.

Looking for recommendations for a shotgun. I'm not an avid small game hunter but I enjoy getting out and knocking around the woods occasionally after deer season is over. I've been using the same 870 for almost 25 years. It's a fine shotgun that does the job well, but it leaves me wishing for something a little lighter. I carried around a Browning Sweet 16 this afternoon, it's not mine, it's a family gun. I've always liked the way that shotgun handled, and no more than I shoot it I wouldn't even be worried about feeding it. Thinking about keeping my eye open for one of my own, but I thought I'd ask around here to see if there were other suggestions. I'm really not set on a particular action, or gauge, I'm not looking for what the best value is, or what is the most durable. I'm looking for something that would be a pleasure to carry and shoot.

This is what it looked like before.

Picked this rifle up on the cheap the other day. While cleaning it up I got froggy and decided to refinish it. First refinish job. Didn't come out exactly like I wanted, but I'm happy with it. Looking forward to shooting it, just have to scrounge up some ammo.

The music that I listen to most is the music that Music Row hates. I first heard this guy when he opened at a show that I went to, played two drums, guitar and sang, when he wasn't playing harmonica. It was a great show, he goes by Tennessee Jet https://youtu.be/07gbJwvgssA

There are a ton of American White Pelicans on Old Hickory in the Gallatin area right now. I've seen them several times.

I'm probably not quite right.

Anyone still hunting? Seems between rain and frigid cold the season has been sub par. Worst season I've had in several years. I've always heard that cold weather gets deer moving but I've experienced the opposite. 60 to 40 they move great, 40 to 20 they hole up. And they seemed to have disappeared in the past few days. I figured they would have to eat at some point. I sat legal light to legal light yesterday and didn't see a thing, today is going to be a repeat of that if something doesn't show in the next hour. I have seen some deer along the roads after dark. The full moon probably isn't helping, but I thought they still may come out to graze mid day.

The FFLs can and do charge what they like for transfers and that is fine, it's their business. The only point I have to make is that if they did an all for one price or did a cheap transfer they may be able to get more people in their door. I don't own a gun shop, if I did I would examine this. If you don't like what a gun shop charges for transfers you are always free to open your own shop and do them for a price that you like. Ain't America grand?

Currently watching Ozarks. Just finished Manhunt, which was about Ted Kyzinski (sp?)

Not since I got hooked on catching big catfish and rock bass, everything else is just bait now.

I had one stolen years ago. It showed up three years later. They do come back occasionally.

Looking for a great meat grinder. Suggestions?

This is a little different but I use a large food processor. I think it's a 13 cup capacity but wouldn't swear to it. Cost about $50 I've been using it for the years and it's still going strong. I grind about 5-7 deer each year. Mostly just the hind quarters. -
Mauser M96 in .270.

That is the coolest thing I have seen this month!

Between the terrorists shooting up the churches and and bubbas trying to protect the churches, and our church, that seems that the best thing to do is pray that no one shoots up our church, I've sadly made the decision to lay out of church for a while.

My friend dropped a doe about 2 minutes before this one came in. Then 3 spikes came in and hung out for about an hour. Would have stayed longer but with the high temps we wanted to get that meat on ice. Lots of fun watching the spikes play after a successful hunt.

I dropped a nice buck a few minutes ago. Waiting to see if a doe comes through.

I'm on the ground today, thank goodness! I have a really comfy lawn chair, I've honestly killed more deer sitting in a lawn chair than a tree stand. Each have their place.

62 degrees and 13 mile an hour winds, if I had a lick of sense I would be headed back to bed right now.

I suspect that you are correct that a lot of little bucks are being checked as does, and a lot of people are using centerfires right now. I don't know if going back to the old way would help or not, I'm thinking those people probably just wouldn't check them at all. I sure do like the convenience of being able to check them on my phone, but I see it doors open up opportunity for dishonesty.

I finally connected. That big ole doe stepped out at 3:01. The Hornady FPB 300 grain .50 did remarkable. The deer was dead before it hit the ground at 70 yards. I had been running powerbelts in my .45 and did not like them at all. Of the last 5 deer i shot with that load 4 ran over 100 yards. I got this CVA Wolf .50 and really like it. Trying to find the right load to make my .45 a 200 yard gun.

Wow, just after my last post I see the silhouette of a deer in some heavy brush to my left. I bleat and it shows itself at 20 yards giving me a nice neck shot. 6 pointer I haven't seen before. Spread right inside of the ears, and a pretty rack. I decided to let him walk. First deer I've had the chance to pull the trigger on in three solid days of hunting.

I had the same mentality, eventually I had to switch to "if he dies it won't be because I killed him." I know a lot of people around here shoot whatever, and my camera footage shows it. I'm on 42 acres in Wilson County surrounded by farms and Corp of Engineer land. Ran cameras all summer, I have two 4 pointers and two spikes running around here, a couple of lone does, and a bunch of fawns. There is a bruiser I've seen across the road and I found I couple big rubs in a thicket. I'll leave the little ones alone and maybe they will stay here where they are safe for now.
