  1. I will more than likely be in the area that day, if I'm around I will come by for sure.
  2. I was just wondering if they had any openings :tough:
  3. Forget everything you know about 4 wheelers. Practice in an open area where there isn't anything hard and stationary to hit until you get the hang of things. I've taught a lit of people to ride over the years and always start them on some kind of dirt bike.
  4. Did you find anyone? The company that I work for is out of Athens and we are slew right now. We have a couple of dump trucks I can give the boss a call tomorrow and see if he can get you hooked up.
  5. I like to be as unencumbered as possible especially in any terrain that is tight as you will be moving your body around a lot and sometimes quickly.  I would put a top rack on it and carry your pack on the top rack to free yourself up.
  6. I think to make good money in the car finance game you really have to extend credit to high risk people.  You're dealing with clunkers so like 45guy said you are even on the vehicle when they put the down payment on it.  If they don't pay you either have to go through the trouble and risk of doing a repo yourself or pay someone else to do it.
  7. On rental damages...  I could see damages destroying your business.  A friend of mine owns a motorcycle rental business, talk about people tearing stuff up, his customers crash a few of his bikes each year.  Can't remember off the top of my head but he puts a hold of something like $3,000 on their credit card when they rent, plus in his contract he specifies that the client is responsible for any damages beyond that as well.  Big difference between equipment and motorcycles is that 3 grand can about replace most of his motorcycles while 3 grand wouldn't cover most heavy equipment repairs.  Also working against you using something like this is that it is not the industry norm (to my knowledge anyway) to put a hold on a credit card so you would have to find something that would be appealing about renting from you compared to your competition.  Obviously the advantage of doing this is that you can immediately recoup some damages without having to argue or go to court.
  8.   Keep this in mind and do your research...  If I'm not mistaken...  When they take in junker trades like I had they donate them to a charity and get a $2000 tax write off.  If you call them out on this it can work to your benefit.  I had a friend use this trick with what really was a car worth maybe $500 on a good day, at Rick McGill's, trading for a new Tacoma of all things.
  9. Once while camping in the Western North Carolina mountains a local sheriffs deputy came by to check us out.  He was obviously very bored and asked us if we minded if he hung out at our fire for the remainder of his shift.  One thing led to another and eventually he got the breathalizer out and would guess where each of us was after giving us a field sobriety test.  I remember blowing a .06 and I was in no condition to drive, and I'm not a light weight by any means.  One of my coolest cop encounters.
  10. I think that we could surmise here that responsible dog ownership is very akin to responsible gun ownership.
  11. I've been self employed and I've worked for "the man."  Each has it's benefits.  Right now I work for the man, but he's a good man and he's very good to me, IMO that's the way to go.  I wish you the best of luck and if I could give you two pieces of advice they would be 1)  Don't ever get a full nights sleep, you will operate better just being tired all of the time since you are used to it.  And 2) Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.  See to it ahead of time that if your business doesn't work out that you are not going to loose everything and not have a place to live, it happens to more people than you would think.
  12. It doesn't seem like a lot of places will haggle anymore.  I went to Rick McGill's Toyota in Alcoa looking for a used Tacoma about a year ago, first and last trip in that place.  They offered me $500 for my '97 Avalon in trade.  Now my Avalon wasn't like new I'm not going to lie, but I sold it on Craigslist a few days later for $1300 in an hour.  Anyways, when the salesman offered me $500 for my car I didn't blink, I just asked him what he could do on the price of the Tacoma for me.  Without hesitation he said, and I quote "We don't negotiate the price on used Tacomas, we get asking price for them."  That was the point at which we were done talking.  I wound up buying a truck off of a small lot, if you can find a small lot with good people running it you will be in good shape.
  13. I've never had a pit and never will. I'm not sold either way.  I do have to give some thought to TN-POPO's statement about pits and chows being the vast majority of what he has had to deal with, I'm not qualified to say but maybe that unpredictability/aggressive tendency is just in their blood?  How many times have we heard about a pit that was absolutely sweet mauling a child?  It happens, and not just with pits.    Another thing to consider here, although this topic has not taken this direction yet.  Some jurisdictions have banned certain breeds.  I have a hard time supporting this because it's a slippery slope that has no end until all dogs are banned.  I think that the answer here is responsible pet ownership.  I have no objection if my neighbor wants to own a rabid pitbull with AIDS, so long as he keeps it in his yard and away from my kid, which seems to be a lot to ask these days.     Of all things I have a feist that I can not trust around my 5 year old.  It's never been a problem I just never have them in the same area alone.
  14.   I think it has a lot to do with the demographic of the owners.  Your "less responsible" dog owners don't own Britanys and labs.
  15. According to the show the preacher that you speak of, Andrew Hamblin, is estranged from his parents and was raised by his grandparents.
  16. Haven't been to Tupelo Honey in about a year, but it was not posted then.
  17. Just finished watching the series "Snake Salvation" on Netflix.  The series centers around two churches, one in LaFollette, TN and one in Middlesboro, KY.  Not saying I believe in what they do, or even support what they do for that matter, just thought that it was neat to see something different that had a local setting.  Check it out if you are so inclined.
  18. Do a search, this topic comes up about once per month here and there is a lot of good information out there.
  19. I'm local to Foohills WMA but I've never messed with it.  Last I checked it was one of the few WMAs that you could take pigs on.  It is very hard to access from the South side, it's 3+ miles of walking from the parking area until you get to the actual WMA.  The terrain is basically the side of a mountain so it's rough going.  There are usually a couple of trucks around the South side during Archery season but not usually much of anything around after that.  IMO it's a whole lot of rough walking just to get in there, I couldn't imagine hauling game out of there.
  20. I'm sorry to report that my hunt yesterday was fruitless.  I stayed out until I couldn't see to shoot anymore even though I had about 5 minutes of legal light left.  Didn't see so much as a squirrel.  Good news is I thought that I was going to loose that spot after this year as the owner was selling it but they decided to keep it so I will retain one of my good spots next year.  I've been in Wilson County since Thursday and I've seen two deer that whole time and I saw those while driving down the road, they just don't seem to be moving at all around here.  Ironically I saw 4 on the hill across the street from my house in Blount County when I pulled out of my driveway to come here.   So I'm about to head back East and spend the evening giving my deer rifles a thorough cleaning, They've earned it after this season!  Also have a muzzleloader project that I'm rehabbing, can't ever start getting ready for next season too early!  But the next hunting/fishing activity on my calendar will likely be trout in the spring.  I also have a camper project going so I'll have a decent place to stay on my fishing trips this year.    As much as I like to rabbit and squirrel hunt I don't do much of it.  Rabbit hunting over beagles was one of the best hunting experiences that I've ever had, right up there with a good dove shoot!  I just don't know anyone that has beagles anymore and my wife isn't going to let me get any.  I've always enjoyed squirrel hunting but I hate cleaning them and don't enjoy eating them so unless I have someone to give them to when I kill them I really don't go.
  21. Going to make what is likely my last deer hunt of the season this evening.  If I were in a greater need of meat I would have hunted these past few days but at this point I'm really just trying to get some meat for some other people, my freezer is full!  It just isn't worth sitting out in cold dampness at this point with plenty of meat in the freezer.  So who is going to start the great rabbit/squirrel hunting thread of 2015 once deer season is over?
  22. I think it would be fun to have some kind of monthly theme or challenge with the avatars.  I had an idea for a Christmas one but never got around to it.  Of course it would cause all kinds of cornfusion if we all started chasing our avatars around on a regular basis.
  23.   The other day I was going somewhere with my wife and that Lee Brice song "Woman like You" came on the radio.  It got to the line "I'd keep my cash in a coffee can," I looked over at my wife and asked her if she knew why he kept his cash in a coffee can, she replied "no, why?"  So I answered her "Because he's single and has cash."  I think she's still mad, and I'm still broke.
  24. One of my cousins in Nashville came down with the flu on the 26th.  Sounds like it is hitting Nashville, might need to get my butt back on the "right" side of the state ASAP!
  25.   That works great if you are in Metro Nashville.  Everyone should have the number to the local police and sheriffs departments of any town that they frequent in their cell phone.  I'd say I've made more calls to the non emergency numbers than 911.  By all means I have no issue and encourage people to call a non emergency number to report things like this.  I just hate to think that someone could die because 911 was clogged up with an illegal parking call and couldn't deal with a "someone is dying call."  By all means tell dispatch when you call that you think that it's a rolling meth lab.  That should get them there quickly.
