No one knows what will be passed yet or even what will be proposed. Before you start looking for 10 round mags, I'd wait to see what Washington does. No need to panic yet. This is far from being a done deal. And the longer it all drags on the harder it will be to pass anything. In the meantime, if you want to do something about magazines, I suggest you put your ammunition, firearms and magazines down and call, write and email your representatives on the national and state level and express your opinion about gun control. IF your representatives are having public meetings in your area, go to those meetings and express your views in a civil and diplomatic way. Put the best face you can on our cause.

TNW Aero Survival Rifle - I got it, I like it
Moped replied to BerettaBri's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Pretty impressive! I'd want one in .45. I was also reminded of the Old Feather Industries Carbines. This could be a great seller. Too bad it's come out when it did. -
I don't think the folks who fantasize about a second revolution understand that, and probably wouldn't until it was unfolding before them. Yes they did. Man has always romanticized war and I doubt we will ever stop romanticizing war. It's human nature to.. That being said I agree with just about everything else you said. I just hope the time never comes where we will all be forced to choice. It will be a sad day indeed.

They are doing it in Illinois, next the country
Moped replied to N2thebox's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If you take Chicago out of the picture, I bet Illinois is about as conservative as Tennessee. We still have Memphis, but the Democratic Machine there doesn't have a strangle hold on our state like the Democratic Machine in Chicago has on Illinois... and I'm perfectly fine with that!!! I wish the citizens of Illinois didn't have to put up with such a beast either! -
So 840 rounds on strippers for $1000... How is that a good deal at a $1.20 per round?

Actually, I do see a split in the Republican Party, but not North-South, Northeast - Rest of the US. To my mind it's increasingly evident that NE Republicans are moving more left of center. Christy is a prime example. I would not be at all surprised to see him go Independent like Angus King did. Now he is caucusing with the Democrats. I think if that happens, you could see a several others do something like this, like Scott Brown, for instance. Personally, I think most people in the Northeast and on the West Coast, no longer share our values anymore. And Washington DC is trying to drags along with them. Our own two Senators are not helping matters much.

Have you had any backlash because you are a gunner?
Moped replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Absolutely none what so ever. I work in a office with around 200 people and honestly most are hunters and/or shooters! And they are not happy right now. -
Obama = a polished Hugo Chavez. Chavez got the poor and downtrodden to support him in Venezuela with promises of of welfare, wage and land reform, etc. at the expense of the Upper and middle class. Obama is doing the same thing in this country. Now he wants to de-fang the the rest of the population and consolidate power for the Central Government and the Democrats. That's a damn scary article! Glad we are starting to see the plan before it totally unfolds and we have no means to stop it. Now what are we going to do about?

question on Reflective Emergency Sleeping Bags
Moped replied to vontar's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I keep a Causality Blanket in my car. You can use them for a variety of things like shelter, a tarp, collecting water, and as a blanket. -
Absolutely nothing wrong with that purchase at all, congrats!

The Outlaw Jose Wales with Clint Eastwood! One of the best westerns ever and the firearms used in the movie were awesome!!! Cross Fire Trail with Tom Selleck (I really like most of his westerns) was another western where the firearms used were pretty dang awesome!!! Another good western was The Long Riders with the Caradine brothers from back in the 70's. Lots of great firearms in it too! Others I like have been mentioned here already, like Enemy at the Gates, Red Dawn, Full Metal Jacket, and Kelly's Heroes! Magnum PI was the show that made me fall in love with 1911a1s!!!

2nd Amendment Demonstration - Would You Attend
Moped replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I participated in one back in 93 or 94 on the Capital in Nashville. and about 1000 showed up for that. We had no problems with people showing up waving firearms. Hal Hill (Talk Radio Personality here in Knoxville) spoke among others and did a great job! I think a lot more would come now, if the publicity were done right. -
An unlikely Long Term Food Storage resource

Thanks for the link prag! -
I plan on "Bugging In" for as long as possible. I keep a "Get Home Bag" in my car, just so I can get home. I live 19 miles from my work place, so I figure that it would be a day to a Day and a half to walk home from there. I carry all I need for 3 days, including high calorie food. Once I get home, I this will be my home base. If my neighbors stay, then I will attempt to organize them, since there is strength in numbers and diverse knowledge. If they "Bug Out", then what they leave will be "assets" for the future.

Any rifle used by a major power over and extended period of time, starting over a 100 years ago, is going to have a history. What has made these rifles so popular is the fact that they have come into the country over the last 15 years in great numbers. The Russians used this rifle through two world wars and exported it to all their satellite nations for manufacture. They are actually has iconic and prolific as the AK47. They were and are sold at a great price and ammunition is cheap for them. And there are many different makes. Some are more expensive than others due to their rarity. Many people on this board own more than 3 or 4 of them. If it were me, I would research what you have to find out the real history on it. Then have it checked out by a gunsmith to see if it can still be fired. If it can be, buy some of that cheap ammunition and shot it. Hang on to it and pass it down to you children. Make it a family heirloom, since it belonged to your father.

What is a good size for a BOB? recommendations
Moped replied to vontar's topic in Survival and Preparedness
They are good first packs and rugged as hell. They are a bit on the heavy side and they carry a lot of the weight on the shoulders, which can get uncomfortable. You should be able to get a nice used large ALICE for under $40 and a new one for under $60. A good hiking backpack will start at about twice that, but if you get it set up for body, it will be a lot more comfortable to walk with. I really suggest that you consider this with your wife. If you get her a good commercially available pack like a Kelty, Osprey or ALPS it will be a lot more comfortable on her than an ALICE will and she will be able to carry more weight. I'd go with an internal frame pack with a good padded waist belt. -
It's a little known fact that the U.S. sent an expeditionary force to Russia late in WWI and afterwards to help the White Army fight the Reds (Communists). They armed them with the M91s so the could be supplied by the Czarist Government and later on by the White Army. Westinghouse and Remington manufactured Mosin Nagants for the Czarist Armies. However when the Reds took over Russia, they refused to pay for the rifles and large inventory remained here in the states at Bannerman's Armory until the 1950's, when most were sold off. It could be one of these rifles.http://www.mosinnagant.net/global%20mosin%20nagants/bannerman.asp Here is a good article on the Bannerman Mosin Nagants. http://www.mosinnagant.net/global%20mosin%20nagants/bannerman.asp After re-reading the article, it seems that some of these were issued to National Guard units, mining companies and the U.S. Post Office. They were even sold through CMP for a while.

I haven't seen one in years! I had on back in the late 80's. It think I paid about $100 for it and another $15 for an extra mag. It was a pretty decent gun and shot well. It was a fairly decent carry pistol, has it was thinner than most large autos at the time. I traded it off for something else, but I can't remember what it was.

I've owned 2 Mini 14s and I won't own another one. I understand from OS's posting that they are doing a pretty good job with them now, but the ones I owned, wouldn't hold a group for any amount of money. Both would start off good, but after a magazine, groups would start to get larger. Won't waste anymore money on them. Much rather have an SKS. Better rifle for less money.
