  1. I'm sure it could have been filed as "wasting police time". Though that doesn't really excuse the cop in his actions.
  2. http://www.weebls-stuff.com/songs/Amazing+Horse/?
  3. They called the cops for a squirrel?
  4. It rhymes but it doesn't scan.
  5. When seconds count...   They probably figured they could either lose stuff or lose stuff and have their store on fire.
  6. Heck, I hesitate to call them dumb-ass. They may have been watching out for the safety of their staff. Then again, just throwing the doors wide open probably wasn't a good idea either.
  7. Nah, he's not The Dude, he's a German nihilist.
  8. I'm a night owl myself. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a decent job compatible with getting up around noon.   Unfortunately, since it's hard to break the late-night habit, I spend a lot of time tired.
  9.   Plus, unless the business is actually producing something useful, you may as well just be giving the money directly to the employees in the first place. Otherwise you're just wasting resources and probably making somebody (politicians buddy) rich. And there won't be the market forces necessary to force the business to suffer the death it needs either.   Corporate welfare should not be regarded as any less worse than personal welfare. Both badly need to go.
  10. Timestepper, you seem like a hard-working and forward-thinking person. Maybe if the money for this program (which, by the way, not only goes to those in need but also to the vast army of government workers who have to administer this program and a bunch of other things besides) hadn't been taken from the wages you'd earned over the years, you would have had enough put-by not to have to go to the government, cap-in-hand.   You say you don't like to accept charity, which I understand (though a wise man knows to accept help when he needs it and pays it back or forward as he is able) but EBT is so much worse, depending not on the kindness of strangers but extraction of their wealth by force.   Though I am very much a hate the game, not the player type person. The welfare state in this country is trapping millions into destitution and I think it's a crying shame for those people.
  11. I was in Dickson Walmart last night and there was an empty box holder for CCI 22lr in the case. So it's around, it's leaving its spoor.

    Cancer

I'll also add my voice to those who say not to mess with cancer. My mother had symptoms and because my grandfather had died of cancer and she had bad memories of him dying a horrible death with his family around him, she stuck her head in the sand. It didn't get looked at until it had damaged her kidneys and done a whole bunch of internal damage and by then it was too late. I just happened to be visiting her and I wasn't there 48 hours when she collapsed and was taken to hospital. She died a horrible death with her family around her. There's a ball of anger I carry around inside about that that I'm very careful not to prod.

    Cancer

I think it's just part of getting older that you hear more of people getting sick and/or dying.
  14. And for Obama getting away with much of what he's doing. And Cheney. Possibly more Cheney.
  15. Not sure about Dern but I used to get him mixed up with Roy Scheider
  16. I think either/or might be worth exploring.
  17. Very much agree. I haven't seen much interest when I've expressed this myself but there has to be a way forward with this. Is there no campaign already for this that we could get behind?
  18. It seems a bit unfocussed and likely to merely annoy regular motorists than drum up sympathy. I was wondering how come various federal things get closed down but not the federal highways though. But not too hard. Clearly that *would* cause civil unrest. Far easier the soft targets of aging war veterans. I'm almost tempted to use the T word that is so readily bandied about these days.
  19. I have an app that tells me when it's supposed to come over but I think I have to start it manually. I was going to try and take a long-exposure picture of it a while back but we had a bunch of cloudy skies for a while and then it fell off the back burner.
  20. HD magnets are usually mounted to some kind of plate. I'm thinking you could drill & mount them. The plasti-dip is probably a good idea and would make the surface less slippery also.
  21. But what about online sales?   The seller has a responsibility to sell what they are representing as selling. This also applies to the manufacturer who was selling to the retailer. The gun should have been QAed before leaving the factory. I wouldn't expect the retailer to open a sealed box (though it's probably good practice) but they are selling to the end-customer so they are responsible for putting things right if there is something wrong. The smart customer will inspect the goods before parting with money (indeed, even with those heat-sealed packages, I will sometimes open them before I get to the checkout if I know I fully intend to buy what is within) but it is not an obligation.   Something does seem a little bit fishy though as I would believe that Ruger has decent QA and as far as I know, all guns are fired at least once before leaving the factory.   Those seem like some odd rules too. Every gun show I've been to, the guns are all out on top of the cases (where cases are available).
  22. Not sure what it looks like but it smells like cheap votes.
  23. If you have any old hard-drives, the magnets in those are pretty impressive.   Magnetization may be an issue but I don't expect it would be enough to cause any issues. You may just have to make sure the bad guys are in a northerly direction.
  24. I had to do the pic on a replacement I needed abut a year ago. Didn't have to for the renewal this year.
  25. If she bought with a credit or debit card, you likely have additional protections. I'd just wait for Ruger to put it right. It *is* suspicious that it came through quality control in such a poor state though.
