SIG Cross Rifle [Precision hunting bolt action rifle]
E4 No More replied to DaveTN's topic in Long Guns
Back in the day I was that guy. Unfortunately, back surgeries, weight, and age has ruined that for me. -
My point was that many times I, and cops around me, rested our hand on the holstered gun - particularly when in a crowded area. That does not constitute assault...at least in Missouri.
-
The key here is it's up to the DA's position on the matter. Where I was a cop, brandishing a weapon was an assault, but it had to be in your hand and out of the holster, (in this case as it's a handgun), and the intent was to threaten another. If putting your hand on a holstered handgun was assault then there's a crap-ton of LEOs that could be arrested for assault every day.

I know I had one.

So is this aimed at the Ninja Hunter demographic? -
I've known lots of dumb leaders in my 59 years on this earth. Many of them were tall - which is subjective since I'm 6'4" tall myself.
-
Absent of the fact that I would have called the police to keep the peace to begin with, it is at this point that I would have certainly called them. As others have opined you should forget the $200 and chock it up to a lesson learned.
-
Brandishing would have been if you took it out of your holster in a threatening manner. And on another note, if you are ever in a situation where you think the person(s) are going to be aggressive, you can always call the local PD and ask them to come out to keep the peace.

On the plus side, America tends to elect tall presidents. There was a study many years ago that hypothesized that humans associate large stature with leadership quality. Here's an article on it: https://www.ideasforleaders.com/ideas/potential-leaders-height-helps-but-so-does-being-smart

Actually, I live in the country now but I lived in Nashville for a couple of decades. I will also point out that 16 other states have constitutional carry, and they haven't experienced Armageddon.
-
We'll have to agree to disagree. I will point out that criminals - for the most part - tend to have a sub 100 I.Q.

Jack's has got some pretty good burgers.

Well, having to go through the state-mandated firearms training for my HCP it's my opinion that it is a joke and doesn't train anyone sufficiently to know what they are doing with a gun, so why do you feel it's so danged important now?
-
I feel the same way today as I did when I was a cop: I only worry about guns in the hands of criminals. Now, when and where I was a cop open carry was legal, (which I never saw happen other than at a range), and there were extremely few people allowed to carry concealed. Those people were mostly law enforcement, judges, and the politically connected. They were pretty easy to tell from the criminals because they tend to dress better.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell ya.

My only issue with it so far is making the theft of a gun a felony but mandating only 6 months of jail time. Minimum for felony is 1 year.

Laws don't keep stupid people away from guns anymore than they keep stupid people from doing stupid things.

Yeah, but they laced it with lies about background checks.

To me she looks like a conservative version of Ginsberg.

How is it NC can override a federal law? -

Besides using .22LR conversion kits: https://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/air-force-rifle-qualification-course.html The Air Force used to also require qualification on the M-9 pistol during basic training, but this requirement was recently eliminated. During the actual firing, you'll fire a total of 80 rounds at a man-sized target (upper body only) at ranges from 75 meters to 300 meters (1 meter = 1.094 yards). The range at Lackland is a short range, so you'll actually be firing from only 25 yards away. However, the target sizes are shrunk to represent the proper sizes at the specified distances (75 meters, 175 meters, and 300 meters). The Air Force conducts its basic training weapons qualification course in three phases. Tip: Airmen who hit the target at least 35 times qualify for the Small Arms Expert Ribbon.
