Ran over a Yellow Jacket nest while push mowing today
tennessee01tacoma replied to Seabeejason's topic in General Chat
I've been lucky this year until today, so I go into the woods below my house to shoot my rifles. My Lab Marley follows me and I go hang my target and walk back to the truck to shoot. I shoot my .243 and then go get my .22-250 load it and look to find Marley before I shoot and the instant I saw her she had got into a yellow jackets nest she was covered by about 40 of them suckers and being the good dog she is she comes right to me so I start running away telling her no but she keeps coming I ended up getting stung 4 times I honestly dont think she got stung at all her coat is so thick. -
I have 2 both involving my stepdad, he taught me everything I know about hunting and trapping. First story, we used to coyote hunt a lot, we both used ghile suits and one time we were calling for about 5 minutes shut the call off and wait, while we were watching the field something was watching us , my step dad was laying there and the bam, a hawk swoops down and grabs his ghile hat off his head and carries it out into the field. The other story is from when we were trapping we caught a grey fox and whacked him across the skull released and reset the trap, put him in a bucket and carried him back to our Suzuki samurai. We drive about 7 minutes to another farm and when my stepdad gets the bucket out the fox raises up and jumps out of the bucket and takes off flying, the farmer ask I we caught anything and we had to tell him no but we brought him one.

My thoughts exactly, I'll be surprised if this is anything more than a stunt.

I would also bug in but to get home unless there is an emp I'll be using my 2001 Tacoma with 3" lift and 285/75r16 tires and customer sliders and 4.30 gears. If an emp happens I still have my 69 jeep cj6

Man I hate someone who destroys others property for no good reason, if they have a problem with your wife then they should have confronted her bit obviously they were too cowardice.

Survival Store/Training in Nashville - Could it work?
tennessee01tacoma replied to Peace's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Reading your post this sounds like a place I came across earlier this summer on the internet, Dansdepot.com. They sell everything from packs, knives, dehydrated food, shelters etc. You should check them out, they don't have a storefront, they are an online company, but it would be very similar to what you are proposing. -
Thanks peejmam

Thanks guys she is just a pet, I would love to train her to actually retrieve but I don't have the time or experience to train her to do so. She fetches pretty good but she gets bored, like I said she is a lab mix and what she's mixed with I'm not really sure, I got her for free. I am wanting to look into the wireless fences but I still want to correct this behavior, so here's my game plan. Focus on leash training and socializing her while on leash, take her to a busier park and socialize her to being around other humans and dogs. We take her to frozen head usually a couple times a week and she runs with us on a leash.

Thanks Ted, but the dogs were at their house, in their yard, our driveway is 1/2 mile long and we share it with our neighbors. She took off running and rolled one of them before my wife could call her back, we usually only have her on a leash when we take her somewhere.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind, I do know exactly what your talking about, Marley loves to race into the woods after squirrels and rabbits and doesn't come back till she's ready.

Hey guys really don't know where to look, but I trust you guys and know several of you own dogs. I have a lab mix that is 1 year old she listens to me well and I have taught her basic commands sit, stay and down, she's not a bad dog, I've had a bad one before. So my problem is this, she jumped on the neighbors dog tonight and while she didn't hurt her it was enough to scare my wife a little. So how do you guys recommend that I correct this, I honestly believe she is doing it to "protect" us even though there is no threat. She barks when people come in our driveway. We have grown super attached to her and I really don't want to get rid of her and deep down I don't think it will solve anything. One more question, she hasn't been fixed, would that make a difference?

You've got a shooter on your hands, in a time and age when hunting and shooting is frowned upon it's good to see people still teaching their kids about shooting and hunting

So my in-laws have a pretty big garden that my wife and I help them with, so far we have canned about 100 quarts of green beans and have put a bunch of corn in the freezer in quart bags. Our potatoes didn't do well at all, tomato plants have some big tomatoes just not a lot of them. I started some herbs from seeds they didn't make it after I removed them from the little greenhouse, I'm new at gardening but I'm not afraid of work. So maybe next year, I'll try again.

I enjoy wearing shirts from 5.11, ranger up, and other hunting and shooting companies. That's not all I wear but I would say that's about 50% of my wardrobe. As a side note I do wear a Molon Labe bracelet daily, I get asked about it from time to time and it does lead to some respectful conversations.
