  1. It should just be a standard machine screw that just happens to be blued. Check with the local gunsmith. He probably has one to fit.
  2. I picked this up today. This is Girsan's version of the Detective Model Hi-Power. The slide and barrel are 1" shorter than the standard Hi-Power at 3.88". Girsan calls it the MC P35 PI. As I understand it the "PI" stands for Private Investigator". Let me preface this by saying I do own an original FM Detective Model. These were made back in the early 90s by FM Argentina. AFAIK, FM was the only company to produce and sell a reliable compact Hi-Power clone. Its a wonderful pistol and I do love mine. However, they have become scarce and the last one I saw for sale went for about $1200. I don't really want to take a chance by carrying mine. So when I learned of Girsan's new clone, it really caught my interest. I've heard a lot of good things about Girsan. I found this one at Bud's the other day for $503. That's about $50 cheaper than I've seen one anywhere else. So I went for it. Anyway, I picked it up today. With tax, insurance transfer and TICS I have $605 in this gun. Sorry about the pics, I'm afraid I'm not much of a photographer. First impressions: On initial inspection the gun appears to be very well made. Fit of all parts is excellent. No sharp edges are noticeable. The plain black finish is smooth and seems quite solid. Nice 3-dot sights and an Ambi safety. Its a good looking gun. The bad: First off the grips suck. Feel completely wrong for my hands. But that's easy enough to fix. In fact I've already got a new set on the way and they should be here in the next day or so. BTW: this will be the only change to the gun's appearance that I will make. The really bad: OMG! The trigger on this thing is absolutely horrible! Long, extremely gritty and , according to my gauge, breaks inconsistently at between 9 & 10 lbs! Ok, this is gonna take some work. From the way it feels, I'm thinking that much of the problem is going to be in that magazine disconnect which it does have. That will be the first thing to go. We'll see what happens after that. Hi-Power triggers are notoriously hard to tune. But a smooth, clean 4-5 Lb trigger is possible. For what I got in it, I can afford to tinker with it a bit. Step one is to get it to the range in its box stock configuration and try various loads through it. That's if the rain will ever quit and I have a chance? Considering that lousy trigger, I'm not really looking for great accuracy. This will be a reliability test. Then I'll take it from there. Anyway, the goal is to have a reliable, compact Hi-Power carry gun. Stay tuned, I'll post updates as this project progresses.
  3. Some folks like to use the off hand to guide the gun back into the holster. Commonly laying the hand on the top of the slide near the muzzle. I admit my own guilt in this until I finally broke myself of this bad habit.
  4. My youngest is 38 and I don't have any grandkids yet. So I guess I don't have a dog in this fight. I really don't care who pays for it or just how they go about it. I just want our kids to be safe in school. Quit arguing about it and get something done.
  5. I grew up in a camping family. When my sons were younger I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout leader. You bet your azz I can start a fire! One should always carry a pocket knife and a lighter. With these two most basic of tools, a smart man can survive darned near anything.
  6. Since the invention of the printing press, journalists quickly learned that its not so much what you say as how you say it. Its easy to manipulate the facts to whatever end you desire without telling a lie.
  7. I never understood why they made the Wranger with fixed sights in the first place. Any decent .22 just begs for adjustable sights. I have a Wrangler. Stumbled across it at a very good price. Couldn't pass it up. I've never shot it. I keep telling myself it'll go on the next range trip, but it just hasn't made it. Now I'm thinking about leaving it unfired, selling it and getting one of these instead.
  8. 'Bout damned time!
  9. I'll be 69 next Monday. I am genuinely surprised I've made it this far. God, fate, destiny or whatever powers control our lives have tried to bump me off twice. I guess I'm just too stupid and ugly to die. It ain't the years, its the mileage. My odometer has rolled over at least twice.
  10. Darnest thing I've ever seen. I can only guess something hit the frame hard while the slide was all the way back. I'd be curious if you could get some more info on this.
  11. They say that with age comes wisdom. However, I've found that quite often age comes all alone.
  12. Always good to see another Bartlett member.
  13. AH HA! Just as I suspected. GEEZERS RULE!
  14. I found a gun at Bud's I wanna buy. This would be the first time I've needed a transfer done in several years. Just found out my old guy retired and don't do them any more. The only place open today is Top Gun. I gave them a call and they charge $75 + Tics. Who are other Memphis folks using and what's the usual charge these days? I'm in Bartlett, so I'd prefer something in my general area.
  15. Notoriously inaccurate. You can't hit nothing with these things.
  16. I have a birthday coming up soon and its made me wonder if the geezer factor on this forum is as high as I suspect it is.
  17. You can't. This is something that can only be taught one on one by word of mouth. Encourage all your friends to take a better interest in their children's lives. The best thing you can teach your children is that they CAN come to you with their troubles. Then you advise not judge.
  18. ^^ THIS ^^ Kids need to interact with others and learn social skills. For some its difficult. Parents need to encourage this interaction and talk to their kids if they seem to be having problems. That's part of the problem. Too many parents just think of school as a babysitter and have no interest in how their kids are doing. Take a real interest in your kids. Ask them how their day was, encourage a response and actually listen. Parenting is becoming a lost art. We need to start there.
  19. SRO ain't as easy as you think. Our schools are full of guns, drugs, rivalries and wanna be gang bangers. The SROs I used to know loved the job, but it kept them busy.
  20. I'm right there with ya, but I am by no means a mental health expert. I wouldn't even know where to begin. And that right there is the gist of the issue. Trying to deal with the current mental illness epidemic would be very complex and expensive. Nobody, especially the politicians, wants to be bothered by it. Then there's that whole woke thing where you might accidentally hurt somebodies feelings. Nope, its just so much easier to blame the gun. That's the easy answer. That's exactly what the antis have been doing for years and they aren't interested in the truth.
  21. As defined by Lewis Grizzard. Naked: you ain't got no clothes on. Nekkid: Not only have you got no clothes on, but you up to sumthin!
  22. If I went hiking naked and some critter saw me, I'd get arrested for animal cruelty!
  23. TFA is a fine organization working hard to protect our rights here at home. I can't even remember how long I've been a member. At least 25 years as best I can recall. I'm still a member of the NRA. I'm not at all happy with their current state, but I do still pay my annual dues. However, I won't give them one penny more until LaPierre is gone and they straighten up. I keep my membership because they are still the big boys on the block and because the politicos and antis are watching the membership numbers decline. That could affect their influence in Washington.
