What is your chosen Self Defense ammo
Omega replied to Ronald_55's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Truthfully, I had the same concern back when I got my first CCW permit, especially with some of the high profile gun mag writers putting that out left and right. But after decades of experience, anecdotal evidence, and many online discussions I've had, I've come to the conclusion that it's not something I'm going to worry about. -

I call BS on the lawyer, if it is a true self defense shooting, the ammo will not matter unless you have mercury tips or something. There are thousands reloading their own, and haven't, as of yet, heard anyone get prosecuted over an SD with reloads. If it's a bad shoot, sure they can throw anything against the wall, but I highly doubt they can show a reload is any more or less lethal. If that were the case, they could argue that shooting someone with anything bigger than 9mm is overkill. -

I reload 90% or more of my ammo, so I bought a few boxes when they were available. When I run out, I'll likely get some Hornady Action Pistol (HAP) bullets to reload if I can't find GDs. But Gold Dots will probably be available again, I just bought some for my .277WLV which were until now only available as pulls. I also have a few molds for some cast bullets that seem to perform well. -
We discussed this some time back, the consensus was that it was BS. This video pretty much sums it up.

The open end is to draw air in, so it could mix in the tube and ignite at the end. Venturi burner is the name they are given I believe, there are a bunch of different plans on the net, I had thought I had found the simplest, and cheap, burner until I seen this in a video. Really can't get much simpler than this, and it apparently works great.

I've been a fan of gold dots for years, but honestly I carry whatever I have reloaded at the time, even lead cast. Most any bullet will do just fine in an SD situation, as long as you place the rounds where you want them. -
The burner is the part that can be as complicated as you want to make it, I've recently came across one that is easy, and cheap. And best of all just works. This pic show 2, with a welded bracket but can just be one or two self standing burners. Frosty T burner http://www.blacksmither.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/T-Burner-Directions-finished-1.pdf

A coal, or charcoal fired forge would be cheap to make, plenty of videos on YouTube.

The radiant heat should work, even in a ladder stand. The larger one should hang easy enough, not sure of the smaller one, my smaller one has a wire handle, but it hangs awkwardly, be kind of hard to get it aimed right.

I started with one like that, but mine was loud, but the noise and smell didn't seem to bother the deer. My stand was more enclosed, but the windows were opened constantly and the stand was not terribly airtight. But I moved to one of these and never regretted it, much warmer, runs quite and less danger of kicking it over. The ceramic burner really makes a difference. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Portable-Buddy-Heater-9K-Btu-Propane/14710768 They also have this one if that one seems too pricey, if the burner design is close to the one above it should be quieter. https://www.farmandhomesupply.com/mr-heater-little-buddy-indoor-propane-heater-f215100-mh4b.html

Tennessee ordered to stop license suspensions for indigence
Omega replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
That happens even among those that should have the means to be legal. my son had a hit and run, turned out the girl had purchased a vehicle, never transferred the registration and had no insurance. My son tracked her down via facebook, got all her info, name addresses (2), and parents names. Even after telling CPD all this, all that happened is the mom paid our insurance. No charges for the crash, no charges for attempting to run my son over, or for any of the registration insurance issues. -
Stationed at Fort Bragg, we heard about it, had to wait until COB to see some of the news footage.

The pig was my first crewserve, when I'd do water crossings in deep or fast moving creeks/rivers, I'd use a dummy cord, there was no way I wanted to be responsible for a lost weapon. Three times, I was stuck looking for missing sensitive items, an M16, a Grease Gun, and a radio. The M16 (PLDC)and Grease Gun (82nd Rigger Facility)were the longest, someone tried to steal them and took a few days to crack them to find the missing weapons. The radio we found the next morning, it had fallen during a jump and it blended in so well you could not see it, even with nods.

Man Threatens Louisiana Trooper During Traffic Stop
Omega replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
They get mad because they feel the laws don't apply to them. And like it is happening in TN, no consequences when breaking traffic laws, this will only get worse. -

I get what they are trying to do, but there needs to be limits on how many infractions a person can have. I watch Live PD, and though I'm sure they only show the "exciting" things, there are a bunch of people that have multiple like offenses, suspended licences, no insurance, dui, etc and of course they get stopped and they are drunk or have drugs on them. Do we really want people with no insurance on the roads? -

I'm fixing to work on a propane forge and furnace, the propane cylinder type, and need some info. Is there any place, close by, that sells the items below, or other forge stuff? The firebrick is the lightweight ones, not the heavier ones available in box stores, you can cut it with a hacksaw. They are relatively cheap, but shipping sucks so would like to pick up locally. Nashville is probably the furthest that will make sense, further than that I may as well order it. https://www.amazon.com/Amaco-28035N-Insulating-Firebrick-Size/dp/B007VEOIVA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07846DXW1/?coliid=I1HSQF54LMVCPW&colid=5JZFAMPDE3U2&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OBXARVY/?coliid=I2O3W83NF8FS2C&colid=5JZFAMPDE3U2&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

With a good muzzle device most AR calibers can be tamed. Not a fan of the flaming pig, or the like, but they do reduce the noise level at your ears, though not anyone to the front or side. I have a Simple Threaded Device on my 300Blk which pushes most of the noise and flash forward, but it reduces the flash quite well. I got another one for the 5.56 but have not installed it yet, so don't know how much if any improvement can be had over the birdcage.
-
I have pistols in 300Blk, 5.56, .277, and 9mm, I like to shoot them. The one I carry in the truck is the 300Blk at the moment, but any of the above will be better than a handgun. I don't worry about the braces, they are legal, and if pulled over it's easy to explain to any LEO if they are unaware. Of course the reason for the stop can make things more difficult, if you are doing stupid things, or get mistaken for someone that did, it may take more explaining.

They will Gore you if they get the chance, but they also bite, can take digits clean off.
