Shooter convicted of 2nd degree murder...
Omega replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There in lies the problem. If we, as gun enthusiasts keep thinking this way, we will soon need to take classes, pass certification courses, and hell, why not throw in mandatory liability insurance before we can even begin looking for a weapon. I mean, it's only common sense right? While I also feel people should take courses, I in no way feel it should be mandatory. -
I'm a Toyota guy, my first, an 81 hilux(?), was what sold me. It was a 4x4 stick shift, and that thing never let me down. It's only downside was that it had problems pulling my 17' tri-hull boat from Ft Bragg to Wilmington every weekend in the summer. I upgraded to a 90ish, same 22R engine just fuel injected and it fixed that. I was shipped out to Japan, was notified 1 day after I picked it up, so my BIL took over payments for it and delivered it to him when I finally left. He trashed both of course, but that's another story, anyway when I returned I went through a few other brands and Ford was the worst. I actually was warned against getting a Ranger, so I bought a Mazda B2300...yup, same truck. So I went through 2 Mazdas, and a GMC before going back to a Toyota. Run a Tacoma now after first trying a Sequoia (didn't like offroad), and if I get another it will probably be another Tacoma. Older vehicles...Yea, had Dodge Demon, AMC Javelin, Chrysler Tradesman 200, Pontiac Trans-am, Chevy Monte Carlo. They all had their time but eventually they all fell to mechanical issue. The only thing I liked was that parts were readily available, and besides the tradesman, all had plenty of space to work on them.

I'm sure other calibers are going to be available, but these have to catch on and get some range time first to see if anything creeps up. I would like to shoot one, to see what the recoil feels like, and to see if it would be a good platform for intuitive shooting.

What haven't you heard? The money is in renewable energy, I'm going to submit a research grant proposal on rabbit powered cars. Park on the grass, a small enclosure lowers down to feed the rabbit pairs, they eat, mate and run your car faster with every litter. Here is my prototype.

I do, let's get this list going.

Sucks to hear about cases like these, but I always send mine in, though luckily it's only been three times, my G23, which sort of ticked me off, they pretty much gave me a new lower which at the time I didn't like, my Mossberg slug gun, inspected and returned, my Remington 700, trigger cleaned and sealed, and while they each took awhile, none took as long as these. My thought process is liability, none of the weapons exhibited any of the issues on the recall, but who knows what lies ahead. I try to be as safe as I can be, but on occasion I let others fire my weapons and I'd hate for there to be an issue. Now, if a manufacturer is gone bankrupt or some such, then my thinking may change, such as when Remington was having issues, but then I'd opt to take that weapon out of circulation until I could trust the mfg or effect inspection and repair on my own.

Fugitive in Montgomery County
Omega replied to Wheelgunner's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Haven't heard of anyone being tried for shooting an armed home invader, murderer and such even when fleeing, at least not in the free states. The ones that have been arrested, shot at burglary suspects with no threat to them or others, at least no pattern of such. Wasn't a fleeing home invader killed in Memphis recently? I guess it all depends on what is known before encountering him, and of course backstop and other circumstances would be considered. I would draw down on a murderer in a heartbeat, and any offensive move would get him shot. But if he was only a burglary subject, and no hindsight to guide you, then the factors you list may come into play and the safest course would be to let law enforcement deal with him later. -

If the ferry operator was armed, he should have tried to hold him there. But I can't fault him for not engaging him, only he knows his capabilities. As to shooting while he is running away, I think him being a danger to the community at large would give you legal cover. -
Don't know, but I like it. But that wind farm looks modern so not sure how vintage this photo is.

Help identifying 5.56 ammo Please
Omega replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
There was a bunch available a few years ago, no issues were reported. It's boxer primed, non corrosive, and reloadable. Probably a match to Federal XM193 55gr FMJ, not a bad find. -
I seen that article a few days ago, and its theoretically a good rifle, but it will go nowhere. First, the ammo for it is bulky, not to mention more expensive than standard ammo. We already tried a three round burst, it didn't work well in the field. The Army is interested in the four shot version, which will have the same handicap, once you shoot 2 or three, you either shoot the last ones, or lose the rounds by reloading to begin a new contact with the enemy. Not good IMHO, the first option loses the element of surprise, or gives away your position, the second has you either losing rounds or carrying partial, blocks of ammo.

I'd be more worried about keeping a loaded long gun in a vehicle than an AR pistol. And I hope you don't recommend keeping it unloaded.

Many manufacturers have their own letter, check their website. You should be fine with that. As @Raoul said, just buy what you want, there are hundreds on the street already.

We lost ours a few years ago, Clarksville has no reporters left. Check the future section to see if the lotto numbers are in it.

The answer is quite the same, if you feel you may have an NFA issue, just save links to the ATF site and or print out a copy to keep and show local LEOs. Most LEO do know the difference, if they don't I'm sure they can clarify it quite quickly, the key is to be courteous and not belittling when explaining it to them.
-
I personally feel it would not be an issue, I would just keep links to the pertinent NFA rules and possibly a printout to show any LEO if they don't know. However, why bother? Lowers are at an all time low, and available everywhere, so the risk/reward isn't there. If all you want, as I do, is to build your own, then have at it, it's legal, just be sure to check adjacent state/local laws to make sure there are no laws against it.

Good work guys. -
This is the other guy, not the one in this thread...kind of sad there are more than one threads about these killers.

I though about it until I seen some of the proposed prices. I can get a new 1911 for those prices, and I have...twice. I'm not a collector, and since many of these will be refurbs and such, it held no interest to me unless they would have been priced half that amount, or less. CMP 1911 pricing: CMP has priced the 1911 type pistols at fair market value in accordance with CMP's enabling legislation. Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts. Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts. Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition but is functional. Pistols may contain commercial parts. Auction Grade (Sales will to be determined by auctioning the pistol). The condition of the auction pistol will be described when posted for auction. Note: If you have already purchased a 1911 from CMP you will not be allowed to purchase an auction 1911. If you purchase an auction 1911, your name will be pulled from the sequenced list. No repeat purchasers are allowed until all orders received have been filled. Pistols may contain commercial parts. All pistols are inspected and test fired by the CMP. The shipping cost is included in the price.

I was told that the dogs, early on, were following each other instead of the perp, but I figured by now they would put one or two of the best trackers on him. With the morning dew, it may effect them, pro or con, so I'm not sure what happened. -

Apparently there were sightings, and one was an officer...which makes me wonder what happened there, I figured a tracking dog would pick him up pretty fast if they know where he passed. -
Man, I just hope they had the right address on this one.
