  2. As a former Yankee myself, welcome! I spent the last 20-years bopping around outside Roch-cha-cha. Finally saw the light! - Kevin
  3. Muchas Gracias Senior!
  4. Can you share the recipe? That sounds good! - K
  5. I hear the plug-in models take care of the 'stamina' problem. - K
  6. I had a landscaping client back in the great white north that used ultrasonic speakers (on a motion sensor) to keep deer out of their garden. Said it was rather effective (and hardly noticeable unless you were up close trimming their hedges.... ) - K
  7. Yeah, was thinking the same thing? Not to knock the store, but I know substantial safes cost a substantial sum.... you'd think they'd throw in a couple bucks worth of material for an 'underlayment' in your installation fee? - K
  8. M erry friggin Christmas!!!!! That's great. Very generous. Or my co-worker used to say... mrry crimmus!! - K
  9. I share 2 property lines w/ TWRA public-accessible wildlife area's (bowhunting permitted). I can't even find the border in some cases, but yes, signs do get expensive! - K
  10. LOL! I've got 3-4 you can harvest right now! Every Sunday morning I spook them out of my orchard. Bastards did a number on my apple tree's. I've taken a few pop-shots at them (not really trying to hit), but after what they did to my apple's... They hardly even spook anymore. Going to start practicing w/ my pistol at 50 and 75 yds... (or bring the AR one morning). - K
  11. I haven't tried the 3 sisters. I've read about it, but frankly figured the beans and squash would block too much of the light from getting to the corn! I researched some and apparently it's not uncommon (getting blown over/down). Leaving it alone often times it will still produce (who knew?!) I lost a bunch earlier (along w/ most of my quinoa), but this second round of storms took out probably half what I had planted. Hope it's not too late, but I put the rest of my Peaches-n-cream in where the potato's were (harvested the first of those 3-4 weeks ago). Hey, maybe I'll till up the corn patch and plant some more taters! - K
  12. I lost about half my corn this last storm we had. It's the 2nd time. Some of it gets blown over, some flat out breaks, falls down, and crushes whatever's underneath! Pissed, the dent corn was about 9-feet tall and just starting to tassle! - K
  13. Thanks Leroy. Canoe-worthy? How fast is the current? I may put in up-stream, but I'm too dang old to paddle upstream very far or very strong, LOL! - K
  14. LOL! Gotta find a thurs. to ply Watts Bar! I'll get the minnows and show you a great Donut Shop we've got in town. - K
  15. Thanks! Sat. pics make it look kinda small for boats and jetski's, I just hope there's a few bass in there. Make that $34 license worth it! - K
  16. Will be camping w/ the Family at David Crockett's Birthplace State Park next week which is right on the Nolichucky River (riverside campsite, too.) Any advice for plying those waters? What are conditions like? Muddy/Rocky? Fast river or slow? Worms and a bobber? What kind of fish are in there? Thanks! - Kevin
  17. A friend of mine from NYC was telling me about a home-storage option some folks there used.... Small shotgun near the door stuffed in the wall behind a thin layer of sheetrock! Get a shim to mount the drywall flush w/ the rest of the wall, and load it up and place it between the joists inside the wall. Something comes to the door you don't like, punch through, grab the gun, pull it out. Click, bang! Nobody will know it's there, kids won't/can't get to it, and its always loaded and at the ready. Just hope you don't hit the joist when reaching for it ! - K
  18. Ditto, have 2 of them, wife uses it. I'll mail you one of mine if you agree to send it back! - K
  19. Wonder how much was in there?! - K
  20. Thanks for posting! If I can kick this cold/virus/flu/whatever, I'll be there Weds.! - K
  21. This is the first year for me gardening down here. Put in a 25x40 garden out at the farm, and have been trying out a lot of new things. The Quinoa got blown over in the windstorms we had a few weeks ago. Didn't root very deep, were very tall plants (6-7'!), but the rootball was only the size of a baseball. Might have been my soil, dunno, first time I tried growing it. A few survived, so will take those for seed and try again! Harvested a bunch of fingerling potatoes! Will be able to get 2 crops of those in per year I imagine. Started them in April, taking them out now in June as the tops have all died off. The Red 'taters I started about the same time are still growing and looking strong. Corns coming up, squash are going bananas, and my peanuts have flowers! Cotton doesn't seem happy, but my canteloupes and melon's are going gangbusters! - K
  22. A lot of people will ask me why I carry, especially from back in NY..... "Do you watch the same news broadcasts I do?"
  23. Congrats to the Predators, they've played an outstanding season. Hang on, Pittsburg's a heckuvateam. - K
  24. When can I come over w/ my fishing pole!? Looks great man, far better than previous. You should charge people for that kinda work.... that's how I started laying block/landscaping on the side. Got tired of helping friends out for beer. - K
  25. It's a HUGE PIA!!!! We are also looking to build very soon, so I find this thread quite interesting! We purchased a plot of land about a year ago, still working on the financing aspect(s) to getting a house built (that, and the missus' thinks we can afford about $100k more than I think we can afford, so there's not a lot of forward motion yet!) That being said, you are going to need AT LEAST 20% down, probably more, constructing a home is one of the most risky ventures for a bank to lend money on. We are being quoted 85% loan-to-value on our property as downpayment (where we have +30% equity), so we're not able to get the full amount down. On top of that there was $12-15k in fee's and other crap I didn't quite understand, that's on top of those numbers (e.g. banker's profit paid up-front!), and this was all from a goobermint subsidized lender (who currently holds the land mortgage and knows all our numbers), FarmCredit. The banker I talked with suggested that commercial/private banks would have even higher collateral requirements, even as high as 50%! You will have to use a builder that they approve, insured and bonded out the wazoo. From what I can tell (having only taken tentative steps thus far), for the average schmuck, it's best to find a builder familiar w/ all the ins-and-outs, and work with them (let them bring the banker, architect, plans, etc.) Prepare to bleed massive amounts of cash. If this is your first home-owning experience, might want to just buy someplace already built, unless you've got your heart set on a plot of land (as in our case, the location was primary importance, dwelling secondary). - K
