Non-Permissive Environments and Improvised Weapons
Defender replied to TGO David's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have a few of the "tactical" pens, and currently carry one from 5.11. This one looks a little less tactical and also seems better suited for actual use as well. I worry about it being confiscated by TSA though. I couldnt take it into the social security office, and that was ok as i just took it back to the car, but it was expensive enough to not want to give it up. Ive heard that if I mixed it in with other poens in a briefcase or bag, then they wouldnt catch it, but I hate to take a chance...any ideas? Also, what is their policy on flashlights? I could carry a tactical flashlight instead. -

congrats on the job. I just bought a 2018 kia sportage ex. Decided what to buy by doing research and knew what I wanted when I walked into the dealership. They didnt have what I wanted at rivergate so i went to antioch. Had a crap salesman who didnt know his product at all. If I hadnt already decided before I fgot there, i woulda walked out on him. He didnt try to upsell me, but he just winged answers to my questions that were simply incorrect. His loss as therewere two models( and ex and a higher end sx) i had picked out and wasnt sure which one...i ended up buying the cheaper of the two, and he coulda easily sold me the higher end one by only being honest. He actually undersold me and i should be careful when I say honest. I dont think he lied, but he didnt know the answers and rather than saying that and finding out, he just said what he though, which wasnt factual. In the end, Im happy with the ex I boiught, but i probably would sprung for the sx just to get the extra bells and whistles. So, yeah, best advice, be honest and learn your product.

Two-Way Radio Communications (Basics)
Defender replied to R_Bert's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I just ordered the Baofeng Uv-82HP from Amazon. 50 bucks including all the accessories plus same day delivery! It includes the cable and software for programming, so I need to do some research today to see whats available in my area (Goodlettsville, right outside Nashville, near Hendersonville). I will get my licence(s) asap, but will just listen after I program it until I am legal. I've long wanted into HAM radio, so if I like it as much as I expect I weill, i'll get more radios as i grow into it. Anyone in this area have any suggestions on the exams and classes and frequencies? -
DVOR site today has a flashlight sale. They have the Fenix pd35 tac 1000 lumen for 52 bucks and the Klarus XT11GT HD Rechargeable Tactical Flashlight - 2000 Lumens, Black, KLARUS-XT11GT for 68. I’ve not heard of the klarus before but it sounds good, looks like it comes with a rechargeable but can also use disposable batteries and the 2000 lumens sounds really good...anyone have any thoughts on these?

This type social engineering frosts my a$$. The utter gall of these globalists just infuriates me! Dicks tried this crap after the Sandy Hook shootings, and I havent spent a dime in Dicks since then. Did my lack of patronage matter to Dicks? Probably not, but they still arent getting my money, cuz it matters to me, at least. Just like I dont go to places that ban guns unless I almost have to. Ive long heard that some of these banks make it difficult to be a FFL anyway. As was reportedly once said by a patriot, "we must hang together, or we will surely hang separately!" ,

Welcome! The HCP process is pretty straightforward and usually doesn't take too long. The LEOSA process, on the other hand, in my opinion, can be. Tennessee seems to make the process so difficult and seems to encourage retired LEOs to just use a HCP instead of LEOSA. The guy at the state I talked to on the phone who ran the program and was affiliated with TN POST, flat out told me "to just get a HCP, thats what most retirees do!" He then offered me a reduced cost TN only LEOSA qualification credential for A longer poeriod than the one year LEOSA qual document. But that one is only good in TN. Im not sure why they are this way. Anyone else had better experiences, please share with us.

I wish the law would require a formal certification of the animal and also a permit or license of some kind that had to be shown when asked by the business owner upon whos property the person travels.

Not an expert, but I had to learn a little about ADA and service animals a while back, and was quite surprised at the lack of regulation. While Dolomite_supafly is correct that emotional support is not a valid function of a service animal, there are some qualifying reasons that are related to mental disabilities, like PTSD. And, sadly strict limitations as to requiring any documentation (none required) and also limitations as to what one can even ask the person with the alleged service animal...specifically, one can ask if the animal is required because of a disability, and also what work or task is the dog trained to perform. I am disabled in that i am not physically able to protect myself from bad guys with guns, so I need an ADA accommodation to be armed by my service gun to perform that task for me. So can I carry beyond posted areas because of the ADA? :-)

Anyone been to NRA Conventions?
Defender replied to Hidalgo's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Dunno the answer, but I\m envious! I went to the one in Nashville a while back and i stayed most all day...wanted to go more than one day but couldn't with my schedule. One day doesn't do it justice. I attended no meetings or seminars, just visited the vendor areas and was absolutely overwhelmed. I got there early not long after doors opened so I got to a few before the crowds but once it got crowded it was hard to move. You've definitely got the right idea by trying to do it on other than peak days! Let us know how that works out. If they ever have another one fairly near me, I will go again. Good luck with it. -
Just listened to it...I like it. One of the things i like most about it is that I can listen when I want to, not just the time it airs. and of course the professional job in content and editing as well, of course.
