No one wants to do their job anymore! How does this happen?
Erich replied to Links2k's topic in General Chat
Wow. The guy literally had only one job at the point the detector sounded off. No wands apparently? On the upside, they know the metal detector works. -
I can ship to buyer’s FFL on buyer’s dime. As far as west, I mentioned I can meet within a reasonable distance. Imo that’s maybe up to an hour. My truck and I don’t really care where the compass points

I’ve had the same kind of experience as you @willki. To get more out of it, you have to interact with interim result sets and direct it to get best results. I’m unsure how someone can get a full program out it as referenced. Programs tend to be very environment and data model specific normally…. but likely down to the interaction and information shared with it. I am limited as i can’t share data models. After years of working in SQL Server environments and transitioned to one with DB2 and straight ANSI sql, I love when it can translate to DB2 specific things with its set of misnomers and interesting attempts to emulate a SQL Svr method. I especially love throwing it a showy regex function that one of the IBM fans is super proud of and it tells me what it actually does with an example without having to look up its nonsensical control characters. Huge time saver. As far as the idea subs have of dumbing down. it’s no different than an encyclopedia on concept. The store of all human knowledge, but easier. Nothing wrong with readily accessible. My wish is it wasn’t censored.

agree, AI ‘s ability to cut to the chase and deliver usable results has noticeably improved for the tech sector. I was having some challenges connecting a third party client to Google BigQuery and it was helpful though it did not give a specific solution. The footnoted references saved a couple hours of scrolling thru search engine results. I love that it can save big time on emails. I find work emails a pain point. PC concise emails without significant rewriting are a challenge. when I remember, I give highlights and voila! Just have to remember to use it up front versus realizing 20 minutes into writing one and debating word choices. It probably would have made this post better too

Hoping you get the all clear in April.

Guns and Ammo email this AM had a list of top selling new guns in 2024 by category. Top (highest) wheel gun: Colt Python Smith’s wheel guns, nada. Mostly popular more affordable autoloaders as is typical. If you throw out the $500 ish or less options and look at anything near its price class, it’s toward the top across categories.

Great to see. But maybe a little too little, a little too late for me to buy another. Thank Colt. I think this is a direct response to sales losses as Colt’s recent revolvers are great and they truly stand behind them. Smiths problem is not just the lock. Their declining quality and non existent service for revolvers are the larger problems. As far as the lock, I did have a lock freeze up the action on my 686. It was either the first or second year of the lock, maybe contributed. happened right away out of the box. S&W fixed it and has been trouble free over 25 years. Old smith service. It’s a great gun Would love to hear them acknowledge and work on those bigger concerns. That is how they will win back those that have gone elsewhere seeking higher quality guns at their premium prices.

Birchwood pike is just up the road from me here in Harrison. It has a good deal of diversity as you drive one end to the other. Not too uncommon here in the county where you’ve got some nice homes on land mixed with trailers. It’s a major thru way, heavier traffic than most and has more than its share of crime. just a couple miles away, it’s much quieter without any incident to note. I don’t know if it’s just me, but that mug shot screams crazy old curmudgeon. Doesn’t it? Maybe ahead of the curve at 56.

I had an earlier one, not first batch but close enough. Functionally it was fine. No issues. It did go back as they forced an optic plate into the undersized optic cut of the slide which damage it. they had to recut the slide and refinish. Springfield from a service perspective is good on the customer service end. The service dept, well…it’s a crap shoot. The cerakote after the repair was pretty bad. But they stepped up after I got ahold of them and addressed it. I would inspect anything you are looking at pretty closely. Avoid any obvious problems opposed to relying on service support to address something you are willing to accept thinking they’d fix it (true of any US company). That said, It’s a great platform and in the end you should be good.

I can’t believe your timing! Not to steal your thread. I started to look thru my list for the next item I need to sell and realized it was missing a as couple things. I was going to post a question here, “when is the last time you invented your safe “ I decided to verify serials, record missing, and take pictures. That last thing hung me out since I was not going to use a mothership scanned smartphone. Dug out my retired old digital camera, hunted down its proprietary charger to revise long dead batteries….. It was most of 8 hour, what a chore. I can only imagine you guys with 40+ years worth and multiple large safes. I definitely found somethings I’d forgotten about. Glad it’s done. On the downside, I was able to reorg like a great game of tetris (good) and made room where there was none before (bad, very very bad). Somehow having space makes one less inclined to sell. But I picked another hard one for me to let go to keep it “easier” to proceed. Good luck in your search @Defender, I feel your pain!

I inherited my dad’s 05 Tundra and 17 Tacoma when he passed. The Tacoma was only a few months old at the time. It was a loaded off road TRD 4x double cab. He bought a lifetime warranty that transferred to me. It looked great, was reasonably comfortable and cold be parked in places more like a car, especially compared to a full size truck (bonus for the wife) I had so many reasons to try to love it. But I preferred driving the basic extended cab Tundra…and tellingly…so did the wife. That old Tundra was just a good driver. The primary thing was how relatively underpowered it was for the 4x drivetrain even with standard oem tires. The factory PCM tune was lacking throttle response and big lags on kickdown to back on power. The drivability suffered. On top of all that, it got pretty bad mileage. 16 on the highway at I75 cruise speeds (trying to not get run over ) that dropped a bit around town. I towed an atv utility trailer a couple times and it noticeably struggled. The rear cab space is ok if on-the-smaller-side works for your needs. Admittedly, I’m a jaded full size truck person. I know these are super popular, just didn’t do it for me. If it weren’t for the sentimental aspects, I don’t think I would have kept it as long as i did.

If you plan to buy a bit of ammo this year, this may be a deal to consider. Normally I dont do subscriptions, but could rationalize this one. TargetSportsUSA is offering a $50 gift card for signing up for their membership @ $99 and buying a case of ammo from a list of specified brands. This membership gives you 8% off and free shipping. The discount almost nets out the TN penalty. So after the gift card, you can make back the $49 membership cost diference pretty quick. Up till today there weren't any really good deals on the qualifying ammo brands. But they just put up some Blazer brass 9mm for an additional %12 off when doing the above, so drops it to $211 for 1000 before tax (free shipping). They email the electronic gift card after the transaction enters, so no real wait. At least that what happened for me.

One note from an early adopter, and may need to research of this apples still. These had a reputation for breaking strikers from dry firing, which isn’t a typical problem in other center fire guns. Snap caps were recommended. May be slightly overblown, but just fyi. I got the Apex striker when I picked up their trigger for mine because it’s good to have a backup.

I don’t think anyone will try to argue the reliability of a ‘genuine’ glock. Time will bear out this new offering’s place on that scale. It sure as hell won’t be near the polymer80 end of the scale. The modularity seems to be a focus. Whether modularity is an appeal or not, the other aspect that is a significant selling point is the preference based ergonomics. That is what originally drove the clone wars. I have many Glocks, but I won’t ever pretend they have favorable ergos and acknowledge they have a specific training need due to the grip angle. I like that this allows for more standardized training around presentation across platforms. And yes, the modularity
