  1. If there's one near you, Best Buy will take tube TVs for $25/ea. For some reason, I think they waive that fee once or twice a year, but not sure. Might be worth checking with other electronics retailers or your County as well.
  2. I bet. To paraphrase our older son, "Nice pewmer!"
  3. Looks like rehearsals for the Wermacht Theatre Enthusiasts Club's staging of Wizard of Oz.
  4. If you like the furniture, go for it. Without spending a whole lot more money, you're not really going to get a significantly better rifle. ARs are essentially just variations on the same theme (different furniture, gas system lengths, et al) with makers building to the same essential spec, often times with parts sourced and rebranded (or not) from the same manufacturer.
  5. Is there a limit? One per visit? Per year? Per lifetime?

    Ruger 57

@bduncan1231, I'm pretty sure they're not very similar, but did you ever look at the mags side by side?

  8. One more point on the above in bold, she wants you to get a gun that you like. So do that, for sure. But with some planning (and question and answer time here) you can also get something that will be easy and pleasant for her to use. It sounds like you understand the importance of that, so you're already a step ahead of lots of guys in that regard. If you're open to a used gun for this particular purchase, I'm sure the folks here would be happy to chime in on anything you're considering.
  9. Is there a standard barrel length for the Garand Carbine (and tanker versions, heard of them don't know anything) mentioned in the ad you posted? Any good way to tell if a shorter barrel is actually one of those?
  10. It's all good fun! Yeah, the photos aren't all that helpful. Is there any good/ easy way to tell the difference between a shortened rifle barrel and a legit carbine barrel?
  11. If you do get a carbine with adjustable stock, you might be able to add an inch or so of butt pad and still get it to fit her at the shortest length while also fitting you at the longest. This kind of idea: https://magpul.com/extendedrubberbutt-pad-0-55.html?mp_global_color=118
  12. Probably the same one wearing the pants in most outfits. We really gotta form a union or something...
  13. I've also regretted passing on quality because the price is just a bit too high.
  14. Dang, @RedlegEd, way to twist the knife as it goes in! http://www.armslist.com/posts/11024990/minnesota-rifles-for-sale--sporterized-m1-g It's a lefty, and definitely not a purist's gun, but kinda interesting as an example of what people have done with those $100 Garands.
  15. You know, I first read that as you trying to avoid going on the date. I thought, "Man! Poor young @Raoul really shoulda done a better job picking them!" Then I realized you were taking about prolonging the date...
  16. Ruger's Minis are totally different animals that really only share a cartridge with ARs. If you want a longer LOP than you've found on ARs so far, try to find one with a fixed rifle stock. If your fiance is quite a bit shorter, and you're planning to share, the adjustability of the carbine stocks can be nice. And as @peejman mentioned, spacers can be helpful.
  17. Does it look to anyone else like he might be missing his legs? Something looks off, and I can't quite sort it out...
  18. Thanks for the info @Grayfox54! I suspected that the barrel couldn't just get shortened, and that replacing steel would be a bigger hurdle than replacing wood. But I'm not knowledgeable enough to put actual numbers to it.
  19. I know a lot of you guys know a lot more about them than I do, so what's a functional Garand worth that's had the stock replaced with a sporter type stock, and the barrel cut down but the metal is otherwise decent? What if the barrel hasn't been chopped? Thanks!
  20. I'll take that as a compliment! I interviewed for a job in Murfreesboro once, (It was a great long weekend, I think I ate barbecue 6 times in 4 days.) and my wife and I got married in Gatlinburg (tried to spend more time out of town than in). If I had to leave MN, TN would be really near the top of the list. Plus, the classifieds on this site are awesome!
