  1. Thanks for the advice, guys. It appears it worked out without any further trouble once he saw I wasn’t budging on paying the closing costs. All I had to do was sign a paper and take his money.
  2. I’d sign a paper saying I’d never collect a penny of it if I could quit paying it today.
  3. My wife and I have made it a priority to save for kids’, education, retirement, and bought term life insurance. We’ve done this since we’ve been married.
  4. Social security is nothing but an onerous farce in my opinion. I do not count on ever seeing a penny of it. My employer will pay me roughly half my salary once I reach 30 years of service. They will also provide health insurance at that point. I have to pay 20 percent as I do now.
  5. It would be part of my retirement package. Guys, I said I intend to retire before I am 50. Social security is a fairy tale to me.
  6. I fear I'll face the same thing, but do not intend to work for half what I'm currently making. (That's what it would amount to when I reach retirement eligibility.)
  7. I think, barring an unforeseen catastrophe, I have my ducks in a row to retire before I'm 50. Anybody else here retire early? I'd love to hear your story and any advice you'd care to share. I expect I'd be bored, and will find something productive to do, but look forward to turning this page in my life.
  8. Should work great. PPU makes a good deer round as well.
  9. Do they really taste like chicken?
  10. Definitely not a cat's head.
  11. Very sorry to hear this.
  12. You do not understand. It would be like drying the Atlantic Ocean with tissues.
  13. Maybe David should scrub the site content every spring.
  14. Wouldn’t pulling one’s weapon, aiming, and firing at another show intent? It clearly does to me. She certainly intended to kill the man. I can’t help but wonder how it would have turned out if he’d shot and killed her first. I’d call it self defense, but that would have been a hard hill to climb since she wore the badge.
  15. That’s what I like about you. You challenge my thinking. If one’s ideas are never challenged, he won’t ever learn much. Thanks.
  16. I don’t know if you guys have them, but they are approaching biblical plague status here. Any tips on repelling them would be greatly appreciated. I am prepared to purchase nuclear weapons on the black market if that’s what it takes.
  17. Thanks for the education. I was unaware of this case. On it’s face, I believe it was a bad decision however.
  18. $300 was much more difficult to come by, at least for me, in the 90's than it is today.
  19. Serious question. What are you referring to happening in 1947? I understand the U.S. Constitution limits the authority of the federal government. Perhaps I am about to learn something.
  20. I am a traditionalist, so the Henry rifles do not blow my skirt up. If you like them, however, they seem to be a well made gun. I would look for an older Marlin 94 or a 92 Winchester or copy thereof. I have a Rossi Puma in 357 (it is a 92 Win copy), and it sure is a blast to shoot.
  21. I would say that while the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution prevents the U.S.A. from enacting a state sponsored religion, It has no bearing whatsoever on Tennessee. I expect you know this, but a good percentage do not. I do, however, understand your concern. I firmly believe that if we as a nation do not turn back toward God, we will soon become another third world country. I do not think a proclaimed "day of prayer and fasting" will cure our societal ills, but it could be a small step in the right direction. I condone the Governor's show of concern on the matter.
  22. No need here. , but generally, you are correct.
  23. Oh, it’ll work out. I deal with contractors all day every day. He won’t likely come up with any tricks I haven’t seen before. I was raised to treat your neighbor with honesty and respect. I guess it’s too much to expect the same from others.
  24. You are a wise man indeed, my friend. I sometimes forget this, and it usually bites me in the caboose. Another wise adage: No good deed goes unpunished.
  25. Word of mouth only. I don’t care about selling it, but it adjoins him, so I’m cool with it if he wants it. What is standard isn’t relevant in my mind, since we both agreed on the terms. I’d probably pay half, but I don’t like someone crawfishing on me. I figure he’ll be back in a few days. I will stand by my word as always. A cursory google search says the closing costs are usually the buyer’s responsibility. I’ve always had to pay them when I bought property. Not that I trust him any longer, but he said he got a copy of my deed today and took it to the lawyer’s office. If so, he’ll still have a bill. LOL!
