2018 Muzzleloader Season is upon us!!!
Handsome Rob replied to gregintenn's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I missed the same 10, 3 frikkin' times yesterday evening. I've gotta assume my scope's janked. 3 open field shots, all under 100yds!! -
I'm super picky & thorough when I butcher. I process deer for myself & 3 friends & unless there is serious meat damage (bloodshot, bone fragments dirt etc....) I get right at 45% That's including the rib meat & neck. 99% of processors deal with hams, legs, loins & that's it. It's super rare to find one that'll strip & clean the neck/ribs because it's just not cost effective for them. What you got back seems to be about in line with what I'd expect.

VORTEX CROSSFIRE II 2X7 VARIABLE
Handsome Rob replied to lshel's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
If it tells you anything, I've got 6 Vortex scopes. 3 Crossfires in the bunch. I've had to send 1 back for warranty repair (overtightened rings, my fault) & turnaround was 6 days & the scope was replaced. Clarity is superb, reticle is precise & clear & while I wouldn't want to throw Amy of them from a moving train, my hunting rifles absolutely don't get babied. They're all scratched, dinged & scuffed & not a one of them has shifted zero. -
National Preparedness Month - Are you prepared?

How did I miss this? . . . . -
Does anyone know of any Smith in middle TN that offers choke threading for shotgun barrels? I just picked up a Mossberg Maverick 88 for up close hog hunting & the patterns it throws with any buckshot load are pretty abysmal. I've tried 4 different loads & none make me smile beyond 20yds. It's a cylinder bore & I'd really like to get it cooked down to Mod if possible. If there's no one local, has anyone had any experience with Comp-N-Choke's services down in Georgia?

Bump. . . . . *ducks* -
They've been making the stainless versions for years. Don't panic!

Meh, it's not a better mousetrap. Other than being able to feed out of a standard AR mag, I see no advantage over a .22-250 Anyone remember the .223 WSSM? It's reminding me of that. It'll be the best thing in the history of EVAH until once again, everyone realises it isn't.

Wow! Thanks Bill. I'll definitely bear it in mind if I end up shawshanking down this particular rabbit hole. I kinda hope I hate it AND suck at it. I need another hobby like I need a fat fingered colonoscopy....

Oh wow, that's awesome!! I mean the beer & swearing thing, obviously. I'll swing by this weekend & see what's what. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I really don't know where to put this so.....deal with it. Any golfists on here? I'm trying to find a driving range somewhere around Tullahoma (ish) & I'm drawing a big fat goose egg. I've never swung a golf bat in anger & I'm really, really dying to give it a go. I'm not sure that I'd like to play a full game (unless someone is really patient, understanding & so bored silly they'd volunteer to take me....) so I thought that a driving range would at least afford me the opportunity to whack the crap out of a ball or two & see if I have any natural talent for it. Anyone got any ideas?

*sigh* I'm in the exact same situation Dave. I'm really, REALLY jonesing to put a 6.8 pistol together, with a brace of course, purely for hog hunting. I'm thinking a 12½" barrel would be just the ticket for the Florida jungles I hunt.

*facepalm* Yep, sorry. Getting my moas & inches mixed up Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

In theory, yeah. In practice probably nearer 12-16" Interest......lost. I can do better than that with my cheap, rattly 1911.

Then there's the Guiberson/Springfield 1903 Periscope rifle. Specifically built for trench warfare Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I'm honestly amazed that the Mg42 isn't still in use. To this day, it's still one of the finest LSWs ever made. Can you imagine a scaled down version in 5.56??? Damn but that'd be a hell of a thing.

And he'll halt fire across all ranges, then make you go get it whilst EVERYONE watches. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Nope, the sights are offset to the left hand side. Interesting tidbit (when I was in the army cadets, we shot the old Bren fairly regularly.....) but the Bren shoots in a very consistent, vertical oval pattern. If you aim dead centre mass on a human sized target at 200yds, you'll completely outline it with 30 rounds! Also they have a cool tendency to pull forward under recoil. Also, if you don't lock the barrel correctly after replacement/cleaning the first round will send it cartwheeling about 80 yards downrange

A Texas built, High Standard 1911 Officer's model for me. It's a cheap piece of crap, to be honest, but I've never enjoyed shooting a pistol more.

Stores that stock Black Powder in NE TN
Handsome Rob replied to Ronald_55's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
If you're going to Cabelas/BP, you'll have to actually ask for it at the gun counter. It won't be on the shelf. -
It's kinda got to be background viewing for me now. The limitless ammo & sudden supply of ARs & AKs, yeah. Hollywood. Bullets bouncing off jeep grills I can handle. NOT killing Negan at EVERY. SINGLE. Face to face encounter....no. It makes so little sense it's not even amusing anymore.

Never done it before, but this year I actually limited out on bucks! The first (pics 3 & 4) is the heaviest deer I've ever killed. I butchered him & scaled 91½lb of cleaned, trimmed meat! The second (first 2 pics) is by far and away the best buck I've ever had a shot at. I had him under 30yds & around me for over 30 minutes (left my damn glasses in the truck...) before I figured out he was better than the average 6 point I thought he was! I'm hoping to get one more doe, just as meat insurance & to justify the new freezer I bought yesterday..... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

SilencerCo Maxim 50 Suppressed Muzzle Loader
Handsome Rob replied to KahrMan's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Go for it. I've got a 'cobbled together' blanket gun with a 13½" barrel. Shoots like a dream out to 50yds!
