  1. Having been looking to the AR market of late, I have to chime in here. Where can I find a Colt cheaper than the RJ? Prices I've seen are generally 1199 + for what's considered by some here as "the" one to get. I've seen the Colt wih the same exterior setup as the RJ for 1259, Windhams for 800 + for base models. Mention Delton or Bushmaster and get poo-poo'ed by the ar elite here. Add Magpul or Troy sights to the base models and you get the Colt or the RJ model. Change the stock forward hg and add more. One says Colt, then another comments on the oversized holes milled in Colts to make mil-spec criteria make them questionable. Screams about Umarex. Both good and bad. Not everybody can afford the Knights Armament, etc high end models. Maybe I'm being unrealistic about this, but try to buy an AR for 700 -800 dollars. A few used will show up, but new? Few and far between. Don't you wish there was someplace to get item by item, step by step, brand by brand information that wasn't laced with "this is crap comments." I know I do. Ok my seriously-lacking-in-knowledge rant is over. To Steelharp-Thanks for being realistic in all this. To Smith, also my thanks for keeping it straighforward and as neutral as I've seen here.

    A pretty .357 mag

My vote has to go with the "old faithful" Model 27 and it's newer cousin the 686 full-lug barrel model. Classic lines that just can't be beaten. And the full size, target style grips just enhance the looks o' so much. Yeah, I guess I'm old school in my revolvers. But why change perfection?
  3. Wow. Really neat looking. And the cost seems pretty reasonable. Pardon my stupidity, but what caliber is it?
  4. Cute, smart kid. He's got possibilities.
  5. Stop posting these pics. I'm out of money.
  6. Some, if not most, do have an aroma about them. However, he does have stock that doesn't. Seems that some gus were unaffected. And new stock still arriving I believe.
  7. Guns and Leather in Hendersonville has something you might like then. Didn't get the price though. I was in looking at ARs and spotted this in the case. A Ruger SP101 with nice engraving. Haven't checked but I'd say pics are somewhere on the net.
  8. Not a bad line of reasoning, but we've all strayed a bit from the OPs question I think. If we could have only 1 gun, what woud it be. In fact I may have strayed here. I don't remember, was it all-round choice or have just one weapon. Lots of difference in those options. Anyway let's have at it again.
  9. Counter with this. G19 with JHPs. Same or bigger hole. Half the weight of a 1911 It holds more than a revolver or a G23 Bigger than a little gun...and littler than a big gun.
  10. Trust me, I'm so far behind, I couldn't catch up if carried her purse for the next 2 months.
  11. I'd love to go, but...I'm broke, tank is empty, guns need cleaning, and the number one reason I can't go: My wife wants to go to a couple of estate sales. Sympathy and prayers accepted.
  12. This tale smells fishy.

    Denial

One step further, please. I advocate the return to working prisoners, not at some make-work project; but in a hard labor setting. Let's make prisons a place not to go, rather than a light slap on the wrist and a vacation with meals and tv.
  14. Good choice. Now you need a G30 to go with it.
  15. Hey. the LC9 is a good little pocket gun, that's for sure. Just had to jump in with that opportunity. I must admit though, I've never had a taste for engraved guns. But that's just me. Now go shoot the little pocket rocket and enjoy.
  16. My first thought was "Oh my heavens! Is this for real?" Next came "Crap. What a mess. Why double triggers? Accuracy? Come On! Unless both barrels fired at the sme time, wouldn't recoil from the first round cause the second to go who knows where?"
  17. Do I sense that you might not be very fond of Memphis?
  18. Girly? What's girly about curley-aue swirls and gold?
  19. Good alternative thinking. A good 4/6" revolver in 22 would be quite an all purpose firearm. Wish I'd said that.
  20. True, but looking at it as a baseline for features and cost of additions. It is a possible starting point as I have a riducilously low offer on one. But still considering several, among them is the Colt. Not in a great rush at this time, really looking at options and learning while at this. Pistols I have ennough knowledge of the make my way. Rifles are a whole new world for me. Outside of a couple of 22s, haven't shot an AR style more than a half dozen times. I guess that's why I got pulled in after the Wasr. Enjoyed it so much, I want to go deeper. But unfortunately, deeper with budgetary limitations.
  21. At this point, kinda looks like it's a tossup between the Colt 6920 and the Windham. Both feel very good to me and are practically and essentially set up the same. The only real difference is that the Colt has MOE forward grips that I like. But since I have a set of Magpul sights and MOE pistol grip already. I might just go with the Windham.
  22. Stick with it my friend. You stike me as a dedicated individual. So I have no doubt you will succeed. You can be my inspiration. I need to drop more than a few pounds myself and as you know it is very hard to take it off. But with what you've come thru already, this will be a milk run for you.
  23. Really impressive look. Good choice.
  24. That's true. But I'm having so much fun with the WASR, it seems unlikely that I'll do that at this point. I seem to have a short attention span, as I have indicated before; and am already looking towards another AR at this point.
