  1. Still looking, not sure I'll be buying anything real soon, but I do appreciate all the comments. Went to Greenbriar this afternoon. Yes, stupid in all the rain, but went with a buddy on a trade run. Had a good conversation with Mark in the AR section. Very pleasant gentleman. Let me waste his time fondling a lot of their selecction. Found several likely candidates, among them the Windham Weaponry and a Colt 6920. Got a lot to think about before the next purchase.
  2. Although it pains me to say this...G19 for one gun, all around use.
  3. What brand is the AR? I've seen those triangular handguards and am begining to like them.
  4. Too much dinero, and I've put out way too much these last few months. Besides I really, really like the Wasr 10 I traded for. Yeah, I know the supressed model would just be an extension of the newly acquired fondness I already have for the platform.
  5. Ok guys, thanks for the comments. They run pretty much what I expected to hear. Now a little more info. Found this gun on the sales rack in a shop, I might or might not divulge that info today. It's new and I was comparing it to the SW15 Sport, a Bushmaster Carbon 15, a standard entry Bushmaster, a Windham Weaponry, and a Delton. On looks and finish alone, the RJ came in first hands down. As much as I, a very much novice AR guy could tell, it was equipped better than the base flattop models, and controls were as smooth as any of the others. The RJ had the newer style adjustable locking stock with high cheek rest, front and rear Troy Battle sights, picatinny top rail to the triangular slotted fhgs, and a shorter rai in front of the guard. And though I really didnt car for it, also had swivil mounts front and rear with a decent sling. Also appearred to have a chrome lined barrel, and of course was 16" barrel with 1:9 twist. On the basis of my limited knowledge, adding these accessories to the base flattop models from most makers will put the price much higher than the retail on this one. I would prefer an upgraded SW or Colt as a baseline model of me, as the more I look at the AR Sport from Smith, the less I want it. Now, that's just my opinion. And we know what that's worth. Also factor in my lack of expertise and fire away with more comments please. Again, Thanks for educationg me. And to my buddy R100R, I apologise for jumping around on differnt platforms so much. I have wide and varied tastes. And just enough knowledge to be dangerous in a gun store.
  6. I personally am not a fan of tattoo/body art. That being said, I will admit to anyone's right to adorn themselves in the fashion of their choice. Even if it involves full body work, as I have seen in the past on some people. However, I must agree with Mike.357 on this particular person. It's just not anywhere what I'd consider "Tasteful." From the views we got it is stunnigly done, graphically detailed, and most assuredly "wierd." Just my own opinion.
  7. OK, here we go again asking for info. I'm going to do some research tonight and tomorrow on this, but I'd like some commentary from the local pros. I ran across a Red Jacket AR today and thought it looked pretty good. Priced at 1199. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  8. Can I be the first to ask? Waterchicken??
  9. Sadly, I do not fall into that catagory. I spend way, way too much time here. Just ask my wife.
  10. Wow. My comments were based on "feelings" as to participation here. That's even lower than I thought. But my thinking was valid at any rate. Not that it really matters though. Just seemed like something that occurred while I was looking at the B-day listings.
  11. Neat take on the range gun rental. Sure would be nice if someone around here did that. If I were to go to Vegas, I'd have to stop in.
  12. We really didn't need to know that.
  13. Amen, brother! And may I say you really made me laugh with that one.
  14. Most definitely not chastising "lurkers." I be one myself at times. I just found that even a smartass like me can get more enjoyment(and that brings into play a whole 'nother past thread topic) out of jumping in and participating in online conversations. You say you don't have anything to contribute...bull. Jump in and say something. Does it really look like all of us here are Rhodes Scholars? Although I wouldn't be surprised to find there are a few here. Take a closer look at posts and thread topics. How many of them are truly something about gathering information or learning from someone here? I'm not say it doesn't happen, because it does. I just asked for some AK info myself and found several things to look at in my search. And I really appreciate those who added to my little question. But one of the better, and some might say lesser, functions of this forum and its give and take is sheer pleasure, fun, and looking at the other guy's toys. In one fashion or another, I'll say half of the post here will revolve around the "look what I just got" agenda. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. We spend a lot of time and money on our guns, whether they are for sports and recreation, home defense, cc use, or duty use for the LEO community and military. We enjoy showing them off and talking about them. It's normal. At least as normal as some of us, with myself at the head of that line, get. So don't let a little thing like my question hinder you...JUMP in with both feet and enjoy, or ask and learn. Your choice. It's all up to you.
  15. Just a fluke. Can't continue like that for long.
  16. Okay, so I'm a little skewed in my perspective, but that don't change the fact that some of you old farts probably check the obits every morning to see if you're still breathing. And if you need prunes...you are already on your way out. Now pardon me while I go take my stool softener.
  17. Absolutely correct, sir!
  18. Yeah, you need more wheelguns, or maybe just give that lone one to me and It will have many friends to commune with. I really like autoloader most, but I've really been appreciating a good wheel gun more and more lately. In fact, just added a nice Ruger GP 100 to the stable yesterday. The Smiths still take to spot in quantity, but the Rugers are coming on strong.
  19. Haven't shot either in years, but my dad was a lever action fan for a while. As I remember it, he prefered the Marlin, and that's what I kinda grew into.
  20. Lately I've been watching the daily birthday listings. Guess as I get older myself I notice it more. Kinda like how my parents and grandparents always watched to obit section in the papers every day. Morbid? Strange? Just me? Anyway, it's been on my mind for a few days now. I was just thinking as I looked at the listings about how many of thes guys had made a recent posting. In fact I would say 90% of them haven't even been here in quite a while. Just seems that a very small percentage of the roughly 14000 members actually participate in the forum on a regular basis. From my own experiences, no facts to back it up, but seems like a core, and dare I say hardcore , group of several hundred members account for the bulk of the activity here. Any thoughts? Or is it just the rambling, disjointed workings of this old farts mind at play?
  21. Hey, you can laugh at me now, after all the info I got, then buying a Saiga, I traded for a Romanian Wasr10 today. Put about 75 mixed rounds thru it. I like it! I may not convert the Saiga now, but then again...
  22. Possibly....but ever hear..."sometimes less is more?" Just joking, I'm somewhat of a smartass, most of the time without the smarts. Most of the guys who know me here, know that. And grudgeingly put up with it. In all seriousness, there are a lot of very knowledgeable guys around here. Almost too many at times. Makes listening to any one "voice" rather difficult usually. Just ask questions and keep searching. But I must say, in my opinion, if you are hitting your target at 200 yards, you are well on your way . I think there was a recent post about a long range shootin class here as well. Good Luck.
  23. Now this is interesting....quoting my own post. But it does have some relevance. I did say I couldn't stick to one thing at a time...so I traded for a Romanian WASR10 today. Don't ask. I traded a pistol I took in trade on another pistol last month. Orginal owner, of the AK, that is, was going to AR platform only and wanted an entry level 1911. I offerred and he accepted. Went to pick it up this morning and put about 75 rounds of Remington, Winchester, and Silver Bear downrange. My first time shooting an AK. Granted it was only 25 yards at an indoor range, Outdoor Junction in Cookeville, but I was very impressed with the little rifle. Best grouping measured 3" x 2" with 10 rounds. Not great, I know, but for my first shots with the platform...I'm very pleased. I think I'm really going to like this rifle. Oh, the Tapco #2 trigger in it was fabulous. Much, much better than the stock trigger on the Saiga. Yeah, I've still got the Saiga. Not really sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Can it really be any better than the Wasr? Considering how little I have in the Wasr, I'm exceedingly pleased.
  24. Hadn't really thought about it much. I personally like the 9/45 rounds and 38/357 in my revolvers. And had actually gotten rid of most of my 40 cal guns. But I do still have a G23/24, so i won't be selling of several 1000 rounds of 40 at a steal.
