  1. What you're calling "deceptive marketing practices" is what everyone who rents cars regularly calls "normal". Yes, they take advantage of every opportunity to try to screw customers out of every penny they can. It's called business. The uninformed pay more, sometimes a lot more. Another reason to book online, you have time to read the fine print. Though it's a fun way to piss off a desk agent... ask them for a full print out of the contract before you sign and proceed to read it, in detail, while standing there. Ask them questions about what things mean (they won't have a clue). Not that I've ever done that.
  2. Check the Alabama laws, they may be similar to TN in that you can't be criminally charged for illegal possession if you use a firearm in justifiable self defense.
  3. The boss is right. TN DL = TN HCP. If shes not getting an AL DL, she's not formally a resident even if she has an address and is paying rent/utilities in AL.
  4. I saw too much oil gum up firing pin channels and result in light primer strikes in cold weather. It was 29 deg when we started the shooting portion of my HCP class. Two Sigs were DOA, one being the girl standing next to me.
  5. I'd guess a "reduced recoil" spring set, improperly installed spring/guide rod, or bent/damaged guide rod.
  6. Either pocket in a Desantis Nemisis or belt in custom leather holsters.
  7. I've got a Crossman Vantage NP. It's not nearly as fancy as some here, but it works for me. I've never put optics on it as my primary reason for getting it was so I could practice with irons at home. I plink with my boys in the back yard. They're learning to shoot their BB guns pretty well. It's easily coke can accurate off hand at 20 yds. The trigger leaves something to be desired, but I figure that's not really a bad thing as it make all my other rifles seem that much better.
  8. Nah, that was the guys who said "Crap! We're out of ammo but still have powder and the enemy is about to come over that rise. Find anything you can to stuff in there and shoot at them!" And canister shot was born...
  9. So my initial smart-arse thought of "more wadding" was pretty close.
  10. How could a 120mm and 130mm gun fire the same projectile? The Yamato class Japanese battleships in WWII had the largest guns at 460mm firing a 3200lb projectile... 337 million ft-lbs with a range of 26 miles. The German Schwerer Gustav railway gun is the biggest ever. 800mm bore firing a 15,650lb projectile at 2700 ft/s... 1.77 billion ft-lbs.
  11. That's exactly what I was trying.... squeeze as hard as you can and maintain control... "crush the gun". My groups were mediocre as best. When I loosened up a little, everything got better.
  12. Anyone care to recommmend a good dark rum with a modest price? I'm tired of Bacardi.
  13. @PAULSHOOT Low left usually means you're squeezing with your whole hand when pulling the trigger and anticipating recoil. I did that too until I learned to not squeeze so hard with my support hand. Try shooting bullseye style... slow with one hand. My accuracy improved significantly which told me I was the problem, not the gun. And please run a couple boxes of those hollow points to make sure they feed. The $50 expense is worth it.
  14. While I didn't have a shotgun, teachers used to ask to borrow my pocket knife because they knew it was sharp.
  15. I'd get ammo that's specifically 7.61x51 to start with. Cheap bulk .308 like Wolf is probably ok too. I would not use any sort of modern hunting type .308 with muzzle velocity more than 2700 or so.
  16. Myself and several others use SmugMug to host photos. It's an inexpensive way to backup all your photos and videos, and can be turned into a business if you're so inclined. if you decide to use it, here's a discount code that will save us both a few bucks. https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=VlcPcQWTe7dG6
  17. These are chambered in 7.62 x 51, which is fractionally different physically than commercial .308. The big concern is the pressure, with .308 potentially being much higher pressure than 7.62. As for cleaning it up, I'd clean up the metal and remove what's flaking off the wood, but otherwise not do a whole lot to it. Otherwise.... cool rifle.
  18. Best of luck. I know a couple people who've had similar surgery. They both said it really, really sucked but was worth it.
  19. Because kids running around with toy guns that realistic would get shot these days?
  20. I'm a bit surprised at how much the nails deflect the bullet.
  21. Welcome!
  22. Ok... so you annealed or tempered it a bit at 500 deg. Keep in mind that thermocouples do degrade over time and no two are the same. Yes, 2000F should be plenty hot for most things. Just be very careful and plan accordingly. You will drop a piece of 1500 deg steel at just the wrong moment, be prepared for the consequences. And yes, large differences in section thickness have the potential to cause warpage during quench. You'll need a good infrared pyrometer to measure the post quench temp of the part. Some steels are very sensitive to how far you quench them down and then get them into the annealing oven quickly. 4140 is common enough that you should be able to find phase diagrams and age tempering curves. I have access to the ASM databases through work, so holler if you have questions.
