  1. Yep, I would guess an original sniper with documented history.
  2. You can also get wire brushes, scotch-brite balls, and flap wheels that will fit a drill or die grinder.
  3. Proof that while the left is very loud and would like you to think they run the show, there's not enough of them to tip the scale. Yet.
  4. I'd also recommend you remove any bulk ammo and store it somewhere else. I use the silicone gun socks for long guns and cheap pocket holsters for the handguns. My cabinet is at about double it's rated capacity.
  5. It looks pretty rough for sure. Good luck, I'm curious to see what can be done with it.
  6. The notion is that since the .380 is as powerful and accurate as shooting spitballs into the wind that you have to be close enough to smell the BG's breath before it's worth using. And then you're better off just asking them nicely to stop, because the bullets might just bounce off and that'll make the BG even more angry. As opposed to a .45, in which case the BG spontaneously vaporizes before you clear the holster.
  7. Keep trying the PB Blaster. Put a torch to the receiver adjacent to the screw, not the screw itself. Heat until the oil starts to smoke. Try a manual impact driver. Repeat the oil/heat/impact cycle several times. It'll come out. And don't burn the house down.
  8. I can see the Craigslist ad... bank robber? We have just what you need....
  9. If you like them and shoot them well, keep them. I have an LCP and i like it. The convienence of a pocket pistol is hard to beat. I also have a Shield and it's significantly bigger. Some can pocket carry them, but us normal sized people can't pull that off. Or more accurately, can't pull it out. The Shield will fit in my pocket, but it's really hard to get back out. I belt carry it.
  10. That's likely to do more harm than good. If not carefully done, it's easily possible to blow away parts of the action entirely. There's not much left in some places. Glass beads would work better to remove the corrosion than sand (AlOx) with less metal loss. That said, I'd probably do it by hand. You'll have more in the blast work than you paid for the rifle.
  11. Wow. It would seem my mosin is providing a much greater ROI than my house. Go figure.
  12. What several have said.... Give him a custom gift certificate and have a range date at a place with lots of rental guns available. Try everything, even guns you don't think you'll like, you might be surprised. It may likely take more than one trip to decide what you like, and that's fine. Range fees are cheap compared to trading guns 4 times until you're happy.
  13. I used a variety of rounds, mostly its what was available and worked when I was "qualifying" that particular pistol. I've got Gold Dots in one, Federal somethingorother in another, and a coupe versions of Hornady in others. I'm less concerned with bullet terminal performance than I am with reliable function and accuracy (which is me, not the gun).
  14. Don't go to the parts house, their sole job is to sell you stuff. Get a bearing catalog. Virtually all bearings are stock sizes. There's typically standard numbers on the inner or outer race that you can look up, or just measure the ID, OD, and thickness and find what you need.
  15. Replace them with sealed bearings...
  16. There are plenty of instances of cruise ships running out of supplies and buying everything they can get in a particular port, leaving the locals with nothing.
  17. I intend to build a charcoal grill based forge over the winter. As stated, plenty of videos on how to do it. Look up a JABOD forge.
  18. If anything, the bullet went in one eye and out the other. There's basically no bone between the eyes, and very little tissue. The bullet didn't hit anything hard enough to expand and cause the typically massive wound cavity, it just zipped through taking the eyes and a bit of brain with it. I would have expected there to be a big chunk out of one of the trees or a divot in the ground where the bullet hit.
  19. The result of zero parental engagement. I'm sure the parents are "shocked". It wasn't on their bookface feed or the last episode of American idol (while the kids were in the other room watching TWD) so how could they know?
  20. I have the big double version of these as emergency heat for the house. Only used it once, but it worked well.
  21. I've used them in a garage and helping build a house in the winter. They work quite well but do generate a bit of smell. They also make a bit of noise. No idea if deer would consider it objectionable.
  22. Welcome! Handgunlaw.us is a fairly concise summary of what most need to know. You have to get permission from the ATF prior to traveling with NFA items. I'm not aware of any local laws or prohibitons, but I'm not an NFA expert either. I'd certainly expect some excitement should you come into contact with law enforcement while transporting them. Most public ranges do not allow FA fire and will get excited about any NFA item.
  23. Mmmmm..... smoked bologna.
  24. We finally made my parents watch it a few years ago. They just didn't get why we were laughing hysterically. Work, work, work, .....
  25. I was home sick that morning and watched it on TV. Ellison Onizuka and his wife were my parents neighbors when Dad was stationed in California.
