  1. there are a lot of countries that allow guns, some are less strict than here actually (but not really anywhere I would want to live, these being places where armed militants walk around with full auto AKs and typically anyone there is either a solider or half starved).     Israel might not be too bad.   I know some IT people there and it sounds ... about like here, really.
  2.   its more than that.  Its the constant on/off.  if all other things were equal, you pull the case on and off 2, 3 times as often, each time costs you a second or so -- adds about 1 min/ box of ammo you make.  All other things are probably NOT equal though, because the turret supports a nice powder drop device right there on the press while the single stage has to handle the powder some other way that is most likely slower than pulling the press handle one time.   Someone else mentioned the powder but the on/off is also significant.
  3. need more of this.   A lot of respect for the guy for admitting he was wrong and going forward with an understanding.   As  I said in the other thread... people don't understand how fast an "unarmed' man can whip out a hidden pistol and shoot you until they see it in action.   Its not a lot of time to think about what you need to do...  you react, or you die.

    Ruger 22/45

All ruker MKS are great guns. The 22/45 does not truly live up to its name ... the grip angle is 1911ish but the size is all wrong, so it does NOT really feel like a 1911.  It also has somewhat fewer grip choices, you have to look a little harder to get what you want if you need extra fancy grips for it.  Normal stuff is fine, this would just be exotic selections.    That aside, it is still the 1911 angle which many prefer.   And the rest of the gun is pretty much the same as the standard design.     My most recent is the wood gripped finger gooved hunter model which fit my hand perfectly, I picked it after feeling how good that style of grip felt to *me*.     My previous one was a 22/45 basic model ... I ran it with a rubber wrap-around grip that provided finger grooves and a bigger grip that felt pretty good to me.   Anyway, pick up the various models.  The 2 major differences are the grip feel/style and the barrel lengths.  Note that the *hunter* is the actual target gun and the *competition / target*  modes are short barreled.   and nevermind, I see you picked one already, congrats!  If you find you shoot it a LOT,  I can't recommend enough converting to MK2 internals & a target trigger (I am using volquartzen (sp).
  5. neat! whats the board beside the press for?
  6.   I agree, long term this is the answer.
  7. as I understand it, originally  the guns in cars law is for permit holders (?).    You could have it unloaded and are protected under the "transportation" clauses but loaded is for permit holders.  This is older information.   It is NOW the case that anyone who can own a gun can have it loaded in their car.   This is as of last year.   THIS version of it effectively extends all the rights you have inside your own home to your vehicle.   I didn't track down the actual law text...  http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/local/story/2014/jul/09/new-gun-rights-law-takes-effect/251789/     you can try to find the exact legaleaze text somewhere on tn.gov laws section if you are bored.

mm glock is like another glock :)  They sort of have a unique grip angle and overall frame shape and a weird trigger, nothing else is really identical.  The closest non-glock that is easier to carry would be shield, IMHO, someone already said that.     If you are on a budget, avoid 380.  The ammo costs almost twice as much for half the power, just get a 9mm.  380 reloads sweet, if you get into that, but buying it sucks.
  9. cz can have a SAO job and makes a pretty good platform like that.  STI is already SAO.    I'd rather have a STI ... they are gonna have the better trigger.  No matter what you do to a DA/SA, it will always have slop/pretravel/something.  It will simply shoot better / faster in general.     3-gun isn't a competition pistol gun, IMHO.   That is, you are not shooting quarters at 25 yards, you are shooting basket balls at 15 yards.   You need something that shoots fast .. light, short trigger and tame recoil.   STI fits the bill of course, but its an expensive approach...   I am certain you could find a perfectly fine alternative for 1/2 the cost, without having to resort to a DA/SA approach which is less optimal.

budget?   Used gun at a show or reputable shop!    As to what ... what do you want it for?   I mean I can recommend 30+ guns at you but without knowing...   its just randomness.  Ruger mk .22 or other target .22 range gun?   RIA 1911 9mm target pistol?   Something smaller for light carry days?  A revolver, just cause (uberti .45 breaktop?  Ruger gp 100 357?  --- most revolvers unless used are gonna break the budget though )   Dunno.  More input, feedback, or anything to help us help you?
  11. your idea sounds fine to me.
  12.   theres a formula for using X drops of bleach per gallon of water if you get desperate.  But the pills taste better.  You can also just boil it to death, and if you want to get fancy, distill it, with fairly basic equipment.    You are totally correct that it will kill people, that and bad food,  but this is a lack of knowledge more than a lack of water purification pills -- the pills are nice but not required.
  13. I wouldn't, and it was just snark at the stupidity of trying to assign a race to a silhouette type image --- which obviously can't be done.  Its like saying the black outline targets have a race (and its been claimed there too) ... its so glaringly stupid that you have to wonder how the person ever learned to read and write enough to be able to even express their stupidity in words.   Sorry if I offended .. pretty much anyone who uses the word racist amuses me with their antics ... they ARE comedians, right?
  14. It looks racist to me.  Where is the white guy?   I don't feel represented. ... sometimes, you just have to laugh at the stupidity of some people.   This is one of those cases.
  15. the lee turret is awesome for making a good quantity of ammo but its not the best for making high precision.   The rock chucker is a great single stage for precision but its slower.   Sorta depends on what kind of ammo you think he will make most... I mostly make buckets of "goes bang" pistol ammo and the turret suits me.   Throw the lee disk powder thingy on it ....  if you are spooning the powder in, you might as well be using a single stage, that is a major part of it being a fast system.    The press has all the priming tool you need built into it.  ITs fine for rifle I make 308, 765 arg, 223, 30-30 and such on mine.
  16.   I have something similar I got for $10 at a gunshow... but they put a hole in the metal for your finger so it *couldn't* slip.   Easier than trying to put a guard on it, I guess?   And mine is curved up to a point of sorts, but its still a tiny little utility sheath knife same idea.
  17. You need to make the loads hot or it can have trouble.   The gun can take it, and its actually designed for hotter loads.  Not saying to exceed safe values, but you can't go too low with it.   They also tell you not to use lead because it can clog the gas system.  Ive not had any trouble with it, but others have.   You said your springs are new.    That can also play into it...  my gun is broken in and cycles on "most" ammo now.   But it still can bung up the case on weaker loads, even if they cycle, and the weakest don't eject right or at all.   You need some deer busters to break it in and keep it running hard for a while...  use 85 -95% of your do-not-exceed load and if that does not work,  slowly increase it ... I would even give it up to 5% over do not exceed before becoming too worried about it on a new set of springs...  the Israeli ammo I found once for mine was extremely potent...
  18. If it was just the extreme tip ...   Do you *need* a sharp pointy tip? If not, you can give it a screwdriver tip and use the blade to cut stuff. If you need a sharp tip, you can cut it down to a point again and it will now be thicker, stronger than ever.   If it broke back too far, it may be hopeless, but you are NOW the proud owner of a ruined knife that can be abused in a tough environment without worrying that its going to ... get broken or something.   I would make it work for me and not bother to buy a new one that ... will probably get bunged up on the job.   That said look for a thicker blade next time.   Buck still makes thick, cheap single blade lock blade workhorses, as do other brands.   I dunno what they call the line now but ive got a 30 year old bucklite that is still going strong and Ive used it all that time, the blade is noticeably shorter than it was new from just sharpening and use over the decades.  If it was gonna break, it would have by now too, I used it as a screwdriver, pry bar, and whatever else along the way.
  19. Jockeying the trigger is a big helps.  Turn it upside down, "fire" it (with the spring assembly opened but "stuck in there", and checked, unloaded, and in a state for disassembly, of course) and that sometimes makes it let go.  Same for assembly...  pulling the trigger to release the internals can make it smoother in both directions.   Once you understand how the gun works and where all the parts are and *what is actually binding it up* its a lot easier.   The little loose swinging rod that goes into the mainspring housing has to land in just the right spot to reassemble it.  The hammer has to be down to get the bolt in.  Things like that.   They are a pain to tear down but you can clean them "pretty well" assembled.  Wipe the chamber, brush the barrel, and shoot again.  I deep clean mine every 1k or so rounds, maybe 1.5.   You can lube the bolt without disassembly too.
  20.   Not common.  There are more guns here, and its more common than it would be in place where guns all all but banned, but its not common at ALL.   You might report it to the police, if you feel its worth your time.  It is NOT legal to fire ANY guns inside most "city limits" which generally means "most populated areas".   Depending on where you are the guys target shooting may even be breaking the law... I don't know the area.   Most likely, unless you are in a rough area, this was an accidental (negligent) discharge from someone upstairs (whats up there??).  Or, if you don't have an upstairs neighbor, its possible it was fired from a higher elevation (??).   A handgun round won't penetrate a roof falling back to earth if fired into the air so it had to be fired from above you *somehow*.     Again, if you don't live in a rough area, this should not ever happen again.   Hopefully whoever did it learned a lesson and needs clean underwear ... "I didn't think it was loaded" mentality.   I think if you showed the lender the bullet holes and lodged a safety concern you could possibly find grounds for breaking the lease without penalty.
  21. you can cerakote a revolver; wife has a hot pink one.   Its fine, and relatively inexpensive, and usually can find someone in driving distance to do it if not a DYI person.   It looks sharp if its done right, and it gets rid of the rust problem.    Given the price of that gun,  and its general value, it may not be worth it but if you do it and then treat it with some respect it will be good for a lifetime going forward.  Or you can keep it maintained .. oiled and wiped and as someone said waxed, or you can use blue-touch-up pen/kit,  or whatever ... lots of ways to maintain it ... that works too.   Either choice works.
  22. Punishment of any kind for a crime is supposed to do 2 things.  It is supposed to stop the individual from being a public menace, and it is supposed to discourage others from committing crimes because they see the punishment sucks and don't want to experience it first hand.      This is a total failure. The death penalty is rarely used and no discouragement to criminals. Jail is pretty nice, and not much discouragement for many criminals.   Its free room and board, education, contacts for future work, prestige, and even a place ripe with business opportunities (the guys that acquire and sell things to fellow inmates).   And it does not protect the public ... only the worst nutcase killers are really locked away for good, most thugs get free in short order and are right back to doing what they do.   I can't care whether this guy dies or not.   I don't feel much safer with him locked up because there are thousands more idiots just like him that will, one at a time, commit their own random mass shootings.   His life or death won't have any effect on anything.     Until we implement harsh conditions in jail that make it a serious punishment ... thinking 12 hours of manual labor and no tv, books, education, bad tasting food, no climate control, ... the works, it needs to be miserable in there  and consistently apply the death penalty to all murderers and rapists & violent criminals the whole system will remain broken.   The current system is pointless and hopeless.
  23. I have nothing but good things to say about the remora sticky holster.  It clings well to the inside of my pocket, so you get the gun and not the holster.    While its not the smallest gun on the market, modern men's jeans and dress pants come in flavors that have large pockets if you look for those when you buy.  I could carry a glock 17 or 19 in some of my dress pants pockets.  Jeans are not quite that big but I can still sit my Makarov or cz rami  in there.  These bigger guns *FIT* but drawing them isn't as clean as a smaller model and printing can become an issue esp for wide bodies.   The one I actually carry, sig 938, fits in my jeans pockets behind my wallet with room for my hand in there on top of it all.  Not sure how the glock compares to the sig, ...    the thing about pocket carry is you may need to buy new pants.  Just like big gun guys buy belts and big shirts to pull over em and special holsters and all that... pocket carry means buying pants, often.   Its just part of it.
  24. welcome, nice looking rifle!  And you found some .22 to shoot in it too, a great start.   I suggest the alternate approach with the wife...   I get one, she gets one, ... we got a lot of guns now and neither one can fuss about the money.
  25. heh I am currently expecting tech support at our company to come by and hit me on the head with a hammer and drag me out back never to cause problems again.     Today I was in a meeting with a guy and the dumb machine tells me it has decided to install something and reboot (IT department was bored today?).  I pulled up a command prompt and killed that, to the awe of my team-mate :)   I was nice and let it reboot when I left for the day, though.   I figure if I play nice they won't actually notice that I have more or less taken complete control of the thing.
