  1. And the 16 and 15 year olds gave themselves up: http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/05/teenage_suspect_in_marigny_sho.html
  2. I think that the Uniflow would be greatly helped by a micrometer charge adjustment. I leaded 9 and 45 with mine and it was HORRIBLE with Unique! I switched to Titegroup to find something cleaner and my adjustment problems went away!
  3. As a 20 year volunteer firefighter and EMT we would turn a weapon over to a LEO. Honestly I never saw one or even heard about it.
  4. HEY! I drive a BMW... hope you used the center cap wrench, I lost 3 center caps after a visit to Discount Tire (another case of someone who is smarter then the tools he uses, or doesn't use - as in the above case).
  5. I have come late to the party but I will try to boil a few things down for you:   All of the guns on your list are good guns. Some will argue, passionately, about which is better, including models you do not have on your list (as you can see by now). Most of these folks are right but it doesn't matter one little bit! It really doesn't matter which gun I like, carry or think is the best, only what YOU think. To make a truly informed decision you should try to handle and fire each weapon that you are serious about. I tried 3 different used 9mm's at a gun store that happened to have a range. I asked if I could fire each one of them and told him I would buy 1 of them that night (I even offered to clean them when I was done with my little test). The gun I had in mind to buy because I had fired a coworkers and really liked it. was actually beat out! The best gun, FOR ME, the one I took home that night was a gun I had only read about and watched an IDPA competition and knew that several people shot so I felt confident that it was a quality weapon was the Smith and Wesson M&P, model 9L.   Some time latter, when I was looking for a .45 I wanted another M&P. After searching on Gunbroker I found a used one and bought it. I talked to the seller and he was an older gentleman who said he had listed it for a young guy he worked with. He told me that the guy had only fired about 20 rounds through it. Turned out that these guys worked at a gun store and that this "kid" loved Glocks (by the way, I agree with you, Glocks just don't feel right in my hand) but he said that the M&P did not feel right in his hand. So because he bought a guy that HIS BROTHER liked so well but he didn't I got very lucky getting a basically new gun for a cost that was below retail... all because someone listened to someone else when buying!   If you are ever interested in shooting mine just let me know.
  6. You said a mouth full - and all of it was excellently said. Welcome to TGO (even if you were a brown shoe)!
  7. Excellent! I need my own range to work on things like this!
  8. I read on another gun forum that said that shooting Titegroup with a moly coated bullet is smoky. Dont know myself, I use Titegroup and have been looking for something better, myself (other than Vihtavuori which, I understand, to be very clean but also expensive and diffacult to come by).
  9. Yeah, I wasn't joking - if you enjoy shooting you will be kicking yourself if you don't shoot the first time you go!
  10.   Congrats! I am sure you won't be sorry. If you need any help breaking it in just let me know!
  11. Its not worth it for me, but that's just me.
  12. LOL! but you are so right... well, ain't me!
  13. Have fun daddyo! Careful about that contact high! lol
  14. I would add that each club you shoot with can add or take-away rules and requirements (although from my experience you probably won't find any that will relax anything to do with safety). Especially if its going to be more of a fun shooting event, as opposed to a competition. Best thing to do is go, watch and ask questions (I will say that you should take your mags, bullets, holster and weapon because chances are they will let you shoot! First time I went a guy offered to loan me a gun and holster to use).   .
  15. As I said - Problematic! But if you could fire a Sig 1911 it would be a fairly indicative of how all SIg 1911s would be (the weight, the fit, what it feels like firing, accuracy, finish etc.). I mean the reality is that most 1911s feel very similar... maybe all it would tell you is that there is no reason to agonize over the decision, get the Ruger and be done with it! A long time ago, when I was in the Navy and we were still using 1911s and we went to the range to qualify, whey were all old as dirt (most were probably from WW II) but just picking one up I could feel a difference or thought I could and it made a difference in how I fired it.   What you are seeing, just trying to locate a Sig, is just part of "the experience" of owning one. lol
  16. Everything that Sig does is first rate! Ruger's are very good, quite serviceable and, of course, American made! If money were no object I would buy the Sig. But that is only half my answer, that was theoretical. In reality even thought they are both 1911's, YOU SHOULD handle both and see which you like better. Of course it would be best to be able to fire each one but that can be problematic. Maybe you can hook up with joesig and buy him lunch or something if he would let you fire both (and I don't know him - I get nothing out of this).
  17. They do look interesting! Given the fact I would be firing a "regular" round this is cheaper for practice, even with a primer. I looked at a laser system that Big K has - it works out to around $275 for the first caliber and about $90 for each one after that.
  18. Love my Commander, I bet the Ruger one is sweet! I am going to have to go looking for it now (I didn't know they made one).
  19. A brand new gun is not clean! It is loaded with stuff to keep it from rusting, Field-strip it. clean it, put the 7 drops of oil that Ruger says it needs (I used grease on the rails, not oil). I put 100's of the same rounds through mine! I will say this, do not dry-fire it without an (EMPTY) magazine in place or the hammer pivot pin can move (its the one with the tombstone shaped head - if it moves out just push it back in).   I bought my P95 used and the tombstone shaped head was missing from mine. Ruger fixed it for free, no charge. If you cant figure out the problem give them a call! They will fix it for you!
  20. Surely to Load it is satire... of course someone could read it and say "it may be a joke, but its true... let me write a law"
  21. If you go to Goodwill or someplace like that you can buy old T shirts really cheap and help someone else out.
  22. Actually I like the idea because I load 9mm too. It wouldn't hurt my feelings not to have to switch primer sizes. But really - one way or the other manufactures!
