  1. Here is a pistol project I just started. It is a Remington Model 7 with an 8 twist 8” barrel with PT&G bottom metal. Still trying to figure out what trigger to use. I also plan on installing a Sako style extractor. The stock is also something I need to sort out. I have some very nice walnut to work with, thanks @mhmd The barrel still needs to be profiled, going to use an M24 profile just shortened to fit an 8” barrel, thanks @LawEnforcementSalesTN My goal is to build several barrels of different calibers and be able to change barrels in minutes. Plans are a 300 Blackout barrel, 223 barrel and a 9mm barrel. And of course all will be silenced.
  2. Anyone planning on adding G-19/17 Gen 5 your holster probably will not work as they are about 1/8" longer and wider. Some open top may work but will be tight. Holsters with snaps ,no way at least with my Bianchi,Safariland OWB &Aker shoulder holster that I have.
  3. Hey guys, I just picked up a new PMR-30 and took it out for testing yesterday. Out of the first magazine I had at least 6 rounds that would not fire. I'm using one of their recommended ammo's (in the manual). The Winchester Super X 40 grain. I realize testing a different ammo type is next up, but I'm just wondering if any of you have experience with this gun and have comment. Is there something I can look at or check for issues here? Feeling disappointed that this new gun is acting up like this.
  4. I went to the range yesterday morning for the first time since my surgery. It has been over seven weeks since I fired a shot. I took this old Super Blackhawk: I've been shooting close up, duelist style; that is standing, one handed, as ranges not over ten yards, and using a six inch stick-on Shoot -N-See target. I had figured a pretty bad outing, for lack of practice for so long. Much to my surprise, I didn't do too badly. Shooting at eight yards, twenty-five rounds went through the black, and left a large jagged hole. Why did I do so well? Well, I did spend considerable time dry firing. This helped keep my muscle tone and my concentration up to par, and I'm sure that dry firing practice did keep me in shape. Bob Wright
  5. Rural King emailed that it has the Canik TP9SA in black or desert tan for $309 with no transfer fee if you pick it up at Rural King. I just ordered one. It's $349 after sales tax and $9.99 shipping. I'll have to drive to Clarksville to pick it up, but it's a not that far for me.
  6. What's a good brace for the money for a Draco? Thanks Jeff
  7. If anyone doesnt know, academy is running a promotion of buying a pt111 g2 and you get a free .22 revolver. It starts on the 13th. Just spreading the word
  8. Had a transfer of one yesterday. Sweet feeling, nice looking expensive little 9mm. Anyone have any experience with them?
  9. For Veterans Day, 11-11-2017, I picked up a slightly used CZ P-09 9mm. Came with box and all accessories, $436 OTD at Guns & Leather in Greenbrier Tn. (good folks). Shot it Sunday and it ran great. Carried it OWB for awhile, big pistol, 19 round mag with one in the chamber. Sorry I don't do pictures but it looks like all other black P-09s.
  10. Way way out of my price range at $1147 MSRP, looks interesting. https://www.hudsonmfg.com/product/

    .357 sig

Ok, honest question here, I am intrigued by the .357 sig but I have never shot one. I use to own a .357 mag but ended up selling it because the arthritis in my hands made it to painful to shoot anymore. Now I mostly shoot a .45, G30 and M&P. I guess my question is, would the .357 sig be viable for me, when the .357 mag was not?
  12. Is there any folks here that own and are still shooting anything with 7.62X25 rounds?
  13. I saw PSA has the REMINGTON RP9 at $299 with a $100 rebate. Looks like an interesting little 9mm. Anyone have one?
  14. This Ruger Super Blackhawk belonged to my son-in-law, Mike Vick. His dad had bought the gun while he was in the Marine Corps. When Mike got old enough, his Dad gave him the gun. Mike read an article in a gun magazine featuring a 5" Super Blackhawk, written by Lee Jurras. Mike had the barrel cut back to 5" but did not have the gun ported. In July of 1979, Mike was killed in a car wreck, and a couple of weeks after the funeral, my daughter gave the gun to me. For awhile I dressed up the gun with some stag grips from Eagle Grips: But, after a number of years, it needed some improvements, so I sent the gun off to Dave Clements who did considerable work on the gun, and I replaced those stags with rosewood, from Lett Grips: This remains one of my favorite guns, and its round count is just over 17,000 rounds fired through it. Bob Wright
  15. Many years ago I had the care of two 106mm Recoiless Rifles entrusted to my care. These guns had a record book and each round fired was recorded in those books. So, I decided to do the same, keep a log book for my guns. My first entry was made in 1958, and it now consists of over a one hundred thousand rounds fired, and maybe fifty handguns. So when I give a round count for any gun, I know its accurate and know what I'm talking about. This milestone for my Ruger Blackhawk is for my most-fired revolver: I record the date, rounds fired, type of ammunition, bullet used, and total rounds to date. Often photograph targets with loading data displayed: Bob Wright
  16. I have a few guns that have special meaning to me, and as such doubt that I'll ever part with them. This S&W Model 36 Chiefs Special being one exception: Now there's a story (Oh, No! you may groan!) behind this gun. I was at the range one morning and mentioned to a good friend of mine that I was looking for a Chiefs Special. Now this friend was one of those who I knew only from the range, but a friend nonetheless. He told me he had just traded one at a local gun shop. I believe I left him standing there, so quickly did I depart. I hied to that store and there was the gun sitting in the display case, and I filled out the paperwork and went over to an ATM to get the money. And that afternoon I had my Model 36. Some time after that my friend died. He was the father-in-law of my gunsmith, and in time I learned his wife, the daughter of my friend, was trying to assemble her father's gun collection. Well, Christmas was approaching so I told my 'smith about having the gun. Well, he bought it from me to give to give wife for Christmas. He told me she teared up upon opening the package and finding that gun! Bob Wright
  17. Anyone betting their life or their family members' lives on the 2d Gen R51. I bet Remington wishes they never went down the R51 road. Even the 2d Gens seem to have issues, at least with magazines. When I first held a 1st Gen I said to myself "I like the feel of this pistol." I am glad I never purchased one. But something about that full length backstrap grip safety made sense to me, more so even than the HK P7 front grip "safety" I used to have.

    Taurus gems

Decided to pick up a cheap pistol to pass the time with. Cheap as in had to be less than $400 (ram 2500 wheel bearings are expensive). And low and behold, we to academy and saw a taurus pt809. Always having been a taurus fan, I decided to give it a try. I am not disappointed. It is a LOT of fun to shoot and has everything I want in a 9mm. I only wish it was closer to a glock 19 size and not a 17. But otherwise, yall need to try one out.
  19. Is what you gain in features/action smoothness on a particular model S&W revolver worth it to pay the extra money to get a Performance Center revolver over a similar model that has not gone to the Performance Center? Or are you just as well off to buy the standard model and take it to a gunsmith that can give you a good action tune-up? I am considering a 686. Any help is appreciated.
  20. I needed to ship a pistol to a plater in Alabama. My only previous experience where the manufacturer did not send me a shipping label involved paying an exorbitant rate at FedEx. I sent emails to several dealers in Middle Tennessee asking about shipping fees when a transfer is not involved. Only a couple even answered my inquire. One said FedEx comes every day but would not quote a rate. The next was from from Arms and Ammo in Franklin: Bring in a Post Office Form 1508 for our signature and you can take it to the post office. $13.00 next business day! It probably would have been less in a smaller box if I had just wrapped it in bubble wrap.
  21. I bought this Cimarron/Uberti Open Top Navy .38 Special/Colt back in January of this year. I loaded up some mild .38 Special rounds, about as much steam as a .22 L.R., and this has proved to be one pleasant gun to shoot: Most of my guns for many years were heavy loaded, fire breathin' magnums or potent .44 Specials. Age has sort of mellowed me a bit, and this gun is, as I often put it, "a reloadable .22 R.F." The sights are terrible, and I had to use judicious use of a file to get on target with the gun. Two unexpected features: The barrel stub directs the flash forward and upward, so the gun, and my hand, stay cleaner without getting crud on the cylinder. And its the only revolver I have that allows cleaning the bore from the breech end. Wouldn't mind having a .44 Special like it. Bob Wright
  22. ...................that I like Single Actions? And especially Single Actions fitted with stag grips? Left to Wright: Ruger Blackhawk (ex-Bisley) .45 Colt; Ruger Blackhawk, .45 Colt; Ruger Blackhawk Flt Top, .44 Special, and two Colt New Frontiers, .45 Colt. The grips on the .44 Special came from a Ruger .45 Colt New Vaquero that I found in a gun shop here in Memphis. I took the grips off and replaced them with stock grips, then bought the Flat Top for these grips. Note that these grips fit only the new XR-3 style grip frame, such as on the New Vaquero. Bob Wright
  23. I am interested in getting my concealed carry but here is the rub, the only handgun I own is a RIA 1911A1 in .45 (full size, weighs about 40 ounces unloaded)....It is barebones (no nite sights or rail) which limits it to home defense, I am looking at a compact 9mm that can perform both CCW and HD. Would I be best served by sticking with a .45ACP or go to 9mm? I have quite a bit of .45 ammo or should I sell it and switch to 9mm? Thanks.
  24. I have to ask this at the risk of offending many on this site. What is the reason that so many here seem to own and love the Glock brand? Is it because local LEOs are using these? To me they are the most God awful looking handgun and are roughly the same price as a Sig, Beretta, ETC. If I am going to shell out $600, it better not look bland as tupperware. I would buy a Sig, Beretta, H&K any and all times rather than buying a single generic looking Glock.
  25. There is something about the smoothness of a 92FS that I will always love fondly. I sold mine years ago to fund a CZ purchase. I had to reevaluate my tastes this morning when I saw you could pick up a 92FS for $450 shipped. http://palmettostatearmory.com/beretta-92fs-9mm-js92f300m.html I think I'm going to stay away from this one, but it is a great deal for something usually $100-$150 more.
