New CZ Shadow 2 Carry

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

CZ just launched their newest compact model, the Shadow 2 Carry. Borrows a lot of features of the Shadow 2 Compact but with FPB, decocker, P-09 nocturne sights, black grips, and RMSc direct mount instead of plates. MSRP $1,449.99. Thoughts?

I recently purchased the Shadow 2 Compact and had it Cajanized. A real sweet firearm. As I understand it, the Carry model added a firing pin block to enhance it for safe carry.

Seen a couple of YouTube videos on it, pretty good videos wouldn't mind getting one, just wish they would offer a better trigger rather than having to send it off to Cajun for their trigger. I like that you can mount a RMR (I think) without having to use a plate, and I like the full rail also. I'd like to find one locally so I could see how it feels in the hand.

This gun makes absolutely no sense.  Until now, “Shadow” meant no firing pin safety and by default, a better trigger.  So now CZ makes a Shadow that isn’t a Shadow.  The firing pin safety is not really necessary unless you carry hammer down instead of half cock, which only an idiot would do.  BUT if you have to have a firing pin safety and want a decocker, the P-01 is less than half the price of this gimmick.

The RMSc footprint would  include optics like the Sig Romeo 0 and Holosun EPS. You would probably need a plate for the RMR.

Understandable. I guess this is sort of a P-01 gen 2. I have a 75 Compact and if its anything like the P-01 then getting one of them would probably frustrate me just as much. I do appreciate the new Carry having a direct mount optics cut rather than the plates the Shadow 2 Compact uses. The trigger I've seen mixed readings where some reviewers say its your standard CZ trigger while some claim <4lb SA and ~7LB DA. I was planning on picking up a Compact at some point, but I prefer keeping my rear sights for cowitness so I'll probably get the Carry knowing it doesn't have as good of a trigger as any of the Shadows.

Kinda want to get one, I love my Shadow 2 for competition, but wouldn't carry it.

This carry model with the firepin block and decocker could be a winner, although the price-tag is a bit high at $1200+.

I agree. MSRP is actually $1,449.99 but I've seen a couple retailers list them for $1299. Definitely going to wait a little bit to pick one up.

I thought I read that, and figured I misread or embellished.... apparently I did not lol. Yeah I'll wait on this and the Springfield Kuna, want that too.

I'm a CZ fanboy and as much as I want to justify this gun I just can't. I got to handle one in the local shop last week and although it's great, it's not heads and shoulders above the P-01. For the price of a P-01 and $100 I can have the same gun (non optic) with a better trigger feel.

I picked up a P01 with an optic but not too long ago for much, much less than the MSRPO so that also influences my take on this one.

I too am a CZ fanboy, switched my EDC back to CZ from Glock last year.

I have a fully cajunized PCR; internals plus milled slide for a holosun 507 with no plate

This is my second CGW pistol, they do great work.

Cost wise, probably similar to this model after you add a dot.

If I bought it and felt it needed more refinement from any custom shop, I would be pissed off.

A guy ran one of these (Shadow 2 Carry) in a class I was in last week and that thing is a shooter.  Y'all are comparing it to guns that have been fully customized, which takes time and money.  This gun is 98% of that and it is turn-key.

Just keep that in mind.  🙂

Besides already being milled, how is it any better than a stock P-01?

A Cajunized P-01 is probably still cheaper and far and away better.

The things to call out here would be that the Carry has a fixed rear sight instead of adjustable, and remains when the optic has been installed, as a BUIS.   The firing pin block was a good addition for a carry oriented pistol, especially in light of the ongoing P320 imbroglio.  I'm probably in the minority here, but I applaud the addition of a decocker, though I'd say it probably could be trimmed down a bit more.  I find the thumb safety on CZs difficult to reach and use, due to their location and safety lever shape, so I prefer all my CZs to be in DA/SA/decocker mode.

It's hard to see how it can offer 3x the value of my optic cut P-07, but I'm glad to see this variation added to the lineup.

I am also a big fan of SA/DA w/ decockers and absolutely love the way CZ does it. Nobody does it better, IMO.
