Phoenix Arms HP22A?

I am looking for a cheap .22 to shoot and play around with. I have looked at this one and like the way it looks and the price tag, but I was wondering if anyone had shot one of these or owned one. If so? Any good, is it worth it, or should I save the extra $$$ and get a Mark III. I've read a lot of reviews and those that have reviewed it said it was a good little gun to play around with on the range for cheap. I love shooting my G23, but when I can shoot 550 .22 for $18 or 50 .40 for $13, it seems like the gun would pay for itsrelf in $$$ saved for ammo. Any info would be helpful. Depends on what you want it for. I have an HP22 that I bought on a whim, and I've never had any trouble with it. It is actually a fun little plinker. They are something of a pain to clean, so I don't do it very often.

The best thing about it is that I can stick it in my back pocket when I am out in the back yard. Can't do that with the Ruger, but if you are looking for quality and accuracy, go with the Ruger. The HP22 is made pretty much from pot metal, just like the Hi Points.

I have one...bought it used, looks like crap but very reliable actually for such a cheap gun. I wouldnt carry it for defense purposes but its fun to shoot. I don't like all the safeties on it and have read about a mod to remove the one I like least, so I may try that one. I'd say wait for a screamin used deal and pick up one on the cheap.

I bought one for my wife and its a fun little gun to plink with. Had a couple FTE at first but it smoothed out. Like the others said its a bit of a pain to take apart and clean but its not that big of a turn off. I got mine at Tri-Cities Gun Depot with a small plastic case for $192 and change OTD. It has been worth what I paid for it in fun.

I just recently bought one of these from a member here. I've taken it to the range 2 times, and no problems so far. I've only tried 2 types of ammo - Federal 550 round bulk pack (which i was expecting some problems with) and Winchester Super X. Surprisingly, it ate up the Federal bulk, and didn't like the Super X very much! That's what I call a cheap gun right there. I'd recommend it, especially if you're looking for cheap range fun. That's what I got it for!

Family had one (and the ,25) for many years now. I think it was 100 or 125 brand new back then. I have had FTE, but i figured it was the cheap 550 brick of winchesters.

Not sure if you've considered it, but a conversion for your Glock would not cost that much more, and you'd be shooting the same platform and trigger at 1/10000000th the price.

Thanks, but I have no idea how to do that, and I actually want the separate gun. I want one so me and the lady can go to the range together and shoot until I get her comfortable enough to get her something good to carry.

No problem. If you're looking for a range gun to help her get comfortable, then I'd save up for the Ruger. Actually, look around and find an old Mark I, Mark II, or 22/45. The Rugers will last forever, parts are available from nearly EVERY vendor, and when you're ready to move up, you'll get back almost the exact amount of money you bought it for.

FWIW, I have 4 Mark II's and one 22/45. They are a blast, and you can do about anything you want with them.

I had a Phoenix and loved it. I sold it to fund another gun and I'm kicking myself for. They are very accurate, reliable, inexpensive, American-made guns. I would say go for it, you won't be sorry.

Also, the have kits that include both a longer "target" barrel and the shorter barrel.

FWIW, I have 4 Mark II's and one 22/45. They are a blast, and you can do about anything you want with them.

If I did, my wife would kill me... literally. She likes to go over them and pick which one she wants to take to the range. Of course, it's usually 2 or more, which means I get to take the rubber mallet to a couple of them when it's time to clean them.

Dad got one in a trade a few months back it was old beat up and ugly shoots really well He carries it fishing, in his words "it shoots good enough and if I drop it in the lake I ain't out nothing"

I like it, myself .. Italian racing lines influence, planning on getting one at some point.

Comes apart/reassembles easily, too, a plus from my point of view.

Btw, I've shot Mosinon's Phoenix, and though I've ragged him mercilessly for actually buying it, it performed perfectly, and seemed about as accurate as you'd hope a .22 semi to be.
