Hello all I recently acquired a new Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308 caliber.Any advice on this specific weapon? It came with a new bipod so I mainly just looking for a scope within a reasonable price range. I'm a full time student that's not working right now so spending $1200 on a scope is out of the question right now. Heck I didn't even pay for the rifle and bipod, I traded an aquarium light that I didn't need anymore for it. Thanks in advance.

If you know any other people around campus like that I can trade an entire aquarium, light, stand, pump & all for that kind of rifle.

You can get a decent scope for around $100 or less. Although you might not be the coolest kid on the sniper block, it should be functional. Check out Sportsmans's Guide

It takes an expensive light to grow expensive corals. I guess it's kind of like people without firearms asking why anyone pays $1200 for a tube you look through.

Garufa, I actually listed my entire reef setup on an online classified site for sale and a guy e-mailed me asking about a trade for the light. You may want to give that a try.

Yeah u don't need an $1000 scope. My only advice is to enjoy it and get plenty of shooting in.

Thanks and I plan on it as soon as I can find someplace to fire .308 and 5.56 calibers

Indeed it does. I don't think I could get a rifle even for my fw220g. SW always costs big bucks.

OK, just so this is out there. I know almost nothing when it comes to rifles. The only two I have ever had I just got in the past few weeks. I can breakdown, clean and fire them but that's about as vast as my knowledge is. That being said, a buddy gave me a "vintage" weaver k4 60b scope. The mounting rings on it will not work with my 700, they're more like mounts for a rail like my AR, would it be worth finding rings to mount it to the 700 or should I just swap it to someone for a half decent scope for my AR? I did some googleing on the scope but couldn't come up with a lot of info on the scope.

Get a picatinny rail mount for a remington 700 short action. They are about 30 bucks.

I've got the same rifle and have a Millet TRS-1 4-16x50 scope on it. It's a nice scope for $300.

+1

well it looks like I've wasted everyones time here. To make a long story short, my car was totaled by a semi a week ago and now my ride to college has bailed on me. If I don't get a car asap I'll be failing my classes so both the rifles are being sold. Never even had a bullet fired through it and I already have to get rid of it. That ticks me off. Anyway, Thanks to all of you for the advice and hopefully I'll be able to acquire another rifle in the near future.

My setup is for Cichlids, South American. That explains it. :P

I've been moving away from South Americans. Tired of them whippin' the crap out of each other.

The Vortex Viper line of scopes is good and reasonably priced. Froggyone posted a couple of model numbers in another thread.
