Ran across this link in a story in the Kingsport paper (online). Can any Knoxville locals fill in details, etc? I inherently don't trust media to tell us anything even that even remotely resembles reality in such cases...

It's gonna come down to whether Beeler is believed to have been in reasonable fear of his life. Despite the headline, I don't think there's any new legal ground gonna be broken here.

That article doesn't make it sound good for the guy. At face value it seems like use of deadly force for defense of personal property.

I doubt that the defense would let you on the jury. They don't like gun owners. Ask me how I know that.

Probably won't have to. They asked me if I owned any guns, then asked me what caliber, then kicked me out.

Btw, I'd say the DA feels pretty solid about conviction on this one, since Whelan couldn't get a deal for a lesser plea. Or the defendant wasn't willing to plead to anything, ya never know.

Yep, AK-47 or Glock. If they ask for caliber, say 9mm, which is what comes out of an AK-47 and a Glock

Anyway, glad to hear the verdict. I liked one of the comments about how a guilty verdict would only serve to spread a message that it's possible to steal as long as you aren't directly threatening the owner.
