Comparing us to the above mentioned countries is hardly a valid argument, in my opinion. The US probably has more guns and gun owners than all of those countries combined.
Pass a few laws and post a few penalties, and when it comes down to it it won't matter how many gunowners this country currently has. How many fathers would risk ten years jail-time per firearm when he has a family to take care of? How many working class people would risk an ammo stockpile at $100 per round fine? It will get really hairy when times really get rough and you have people going hungry. Then all the government has to do is offer food vouchers or monetary payoffs to anyone that reports any fellow comrades holding out. Today you may be shooting buddies, but if your buddy's family is starving, he may just give the government a call and tell them about that one place you hid a box of ammo with a rifle.

Of course (hopefully) this is extreme, but if the government was allowed to do it and we were to let them get away with it, it is exactly how it could go down. Today's generations have no idea what suffering is like. They have no idea what freedom means. Of course the founding fathers of our country wouldn't balk at a confiscation of arms; They would fight and die for it. They knew what it meant to live under suppression; They knew what it meant to die freely.

Unfortunately, I think the 2nd amendment is something that a very large percentage would sacrifice if it were announced that no firearms owner would be allowed to buy the newest iPhone or something. Today's generation doesn't care about being free; They care about whether they have WiFi access and whether or not they have unlimited data on their cell plan.

Or at least I fear...

I'm not doubting the very real possibility that we see another AWB and/or ban of high-capacity magazines, but all this talk as if someone is going to come and take all of our guns away is ludacris. Even if we do see an AWB, I doubt it will have anything to do with the UN. Clinton didn't need the assistance of the UN, and neither will Obama.

The last AWB didn't force American citizens to hand over their guns, and I highly doubt a possible future AWB will be any different.

Seems a lot of folks are sitting around in Tin Foil Hats watching their worn out VHS tapes of Red Dawn.

The real reason this treaty hasnt already been signed is that the US is a huge exporter of arms and even the Obama administration wasnt going to sign something that cut the monies made from it.

You really think Obama cares about small arms trade from the US to others? LOL

All he and the anti-gun folks care about is disarming American citizens, period.

They're just in the early planing stages of trying to figure out how to do it without causing a revolt from the gun owners that are willing to fight for their rights!

Has anyone actually read the treaty? I've only seen speculation as to what is says but I did find this article that claims the following
ection III, Paragraphs 7 and 8 of the Programme of Action mandate that if a member state cannot get rid of privately-owned small arms legislatively, then the control of “customs, police, intelligence, and arms control” will be placed under the power of a board of UN bureaucrats operating out of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs.
I would like to know if this is true or not.

only teach "The Story of Stuff" evidently.
This brings to mind the imminent deployment by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of portable invisible lasers developed by Genia Laboratories (a company created by CIA offshoot In-Q-Tel) that can detect even trace amounts of gun powder from over 50 yards away. The laser reportedly can penetrate walls, glass, and metal. DHS is scheduled to take possession of the devices later this month, according to testimony presented on Capitol Hill late last year.
Been thinking about this for a few days. Sounds like it is straight out of science fiction. I'm wondering if it is science fiction; i.e. propaganda designed to place fear into anyone that has considered burying something for storage. Of course if we took any existing tech from today's society and showed it to anyone half a century ago, they would think it impossible as well. I guess I have a hard time believing a laser can penetrate walls and metal up to 50 yards away, and and then be able to bounce back and reveal the molecular structure of anything.

I have been wrong before.
S&T’s first project via In-Q-Tel was just announced with a company called Genia Photonics. This company developed a tunable laser source for the medical community and S&T is investigating the feasibility of this technology to perform non-contact, trace explosives detection.
Found this in one of the articles the original story linked to.

If this stuff indeed works as well as hyped, amazing technology. Unfortunately like all amazing technology, it has the potential for so much good or so much evil. Edited by CZ9MM

I know I'm just being repetitive, but pre-WWII Nazi Germany is all this stuff makes me think of. Say what you
wish, but it's more incrementalism the same way as in history. They have been following the same model for
years. This time it will have the same effect as before, just not Jews, gypsies and homos. Funny how some of
the very same groups it affected last time are for it, this time.
Erzats clothing(just an example of green crap), Banning guns, slapping of the Supreme Court and Congress
and it will fall into dictatorship, if not already.

More of the same conversation material (received this in email form):

Dear fellow Patriot,

Gun-grabbers around the globe believe they have it made.

You see, only hours after re-election, Barack Obama immediately made a move for gun control...

On November 7th, his administration gleefully voted at the UN for a renewed effort to pass the "Small Arms Treaty."

I don't know about you, but watching anti-American globalists plot against our Constitution makes me sick.

What’s worse, the UN set March 18th-28th to meet to pass the final version of the treaty that will be sent to the Senate for ratification.

You and I will only have a few short months to prepare for this battle...

If we’re to succeed, we must fight back now.

That's why I’m helping lead the fight to defeat the UN "Small Arms Treaty" in the United States Senate.

And it's why I need your help today.

Will you join me by taking a public stand against the UN "Small Arms Treaty" and sign the Official Firearms Sovereignty Survey right away?

Ultimately, UN bureaucrats will stop at nothing to registerban andCONFISCATE firearms owned by private citizens like YOU.

So far, the gun-grabbers have successfully kept many of their schemes under wraps.

But looking at previous attempts by the UN to pass global gun control, you and I can get a good idea of what’s likely in the works.

You can bet the UN is working to FORCE the U.S. to implement every single one of these anti-gun policies:

*** Enact tougher licensing requirements, making law-abiding Americans cut through even more bureaucratic red tape just to own a firearm legally;

*** CONFISCATE and DESTROY ALL "unauthorized" civilian firearms (all firearms owned by the government are excluded, of course);

*** BAN the trade, sale and private ownership of ALL semi-automatic weapons;

*** Create an INTERNATIONAL gun registry, setting the stage for full-scale gun CONFISCATION.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this is NOT a fight we can afford to lose.

Ever since its founding 65 years ago, the United Nations has been hell-bent on bringing the United States to its knees.

To the petty dictators and one-world socialists who control the UN, the United States of America isn’t a "shining city on a hill" -- it’s an affront to their grand designs for the globe.

These anti-gun globalists know that as long as Americans remain free to make our own decisions without being bossed around by big government bureaucrats, they’ll NEVER be able to seize the worldwide power they crave.

And the UN’s apologists also know the most effective way to finally strip you and me of ALL our freedoms would be to DESTROY our gun rights.

That’s why I was so excited to see the National Association for Gun Rights leading the fight to stop the UN "Small Arms Treaty!"

Will you join them by going on record AGAINST global gun control and sign theOfficial Firearms Sovereignty Survey today?

The truth is there’s no time to waste.

You and I have to be prepared for this fight to move FAST.

The fact is the last thing the gun-grabbers at the UN and in Washington, D.C. want is for you and me to have time to mobilize gun owners to defeat this radical agenda.

They’ve made that mistake before, and we’ve made them pay, defeating EVERY attempt to ram the UN Small Arms Treaty into law since the mid-1990s.

But now time may not be on our side.

In fact, we’re likely to only have a few weeks to defeat them when they make their move in March.

And worse... the UN Small Arms Treaty is no longer the only UN scheme threatening our gun rights.

More and more of the UN's radical agenda is slipping through covertly, under the cover of domestic legislation.

Not long ago, Obama told Sarah Brady from the anti-gun Brady Campaign, "I just want you to know that we are working on [gun control].  We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

In fact, Hillary Clinton’s State Department recently bragged that Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious are implementations of the UN's anti-gun agenda!

And I'd place a wager that Obama's M1 Rifle Re-importation Ban was also the UN's agenda dutifully executed by his administration.

Anti-gun UN policy that NEVER received a single vote in the United States Congress!

The UN will meet soon to pass a final version of the "Small Arms Treaty" to be sent for ratification by the Senate.

But even worse than a renewed mandate, the General Assembly could vote by simple majority to implement the "Small Arms Treaty."

This would bypass any further meetings and would allow them to insist that member states ratify the treaty immediately.

So if you and I are going to defeat them, we have to turn the heat up on Washington now before it’s too late!

1. Do you believe the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Second Amendment are the supreme law of the land?

2. Do you believe any attempt by the United Nations to subvert or supersede your Constitutional rights must be opposed?

If you said "Yes!" to these questions, please sign the survey the National Association for Gun Rights has prepared for you.

But I hope you'll do more than just sign your survey today.

With your help, the National Association for Gun Rights will continue to turn up the heat on targeted Senators who are working to implement the UN "Small Arms Treaty."

Direct mail.  Phones.  E-mail.  Blogs.  Guest editorials.  Press conferences.  Hard-hitting internet, newspaper, radio and even TV ads if funding permits.  The whole nine yards.

Of course, a program of this scale is only possible if the National Association for Gun Rights can raise the money.

But that’s not easy, and we may not have much time.

In fact, if gun owners are going to defeat the UN's schemes, pro-gun Americans like you and me have to get involved NOW!

So please put yourself on record AGAINST the UN Gun Ban by signing NAGR’sFirearms Sovereignty Survey.

But along with your survey, please agree to make a generous contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even just $35.

And every dollar counts in this fight so even if you can only chip in $10 or $20, it will make a difference.

Thank you in advance for your time and money devoted to defending our Second Amendment rights.

For Freedom,

Rand Paul
United States Senator

If we’re going to defeat the UN "Small Arms Treaty," gun owners have to turn the heat up now before it’s too late!

Please return your Firearms Sovereignty Survey and put yourself squarely on the record AGAINST the UN "Small Arms Treaty."

And if you can, please make a generous contribution to the National Association for Gun Rights of $250, $150, $100 or even just $35 right away!

In light of the tragedy of what happened today in Newtown, CT this may the serious crisis that doesn't need to go to waste. BHO could take this opportunity to do things he only wished he could not do before.

The media is naturally already politicizing this random act of a mad man. It's time to stir the anti-gun-turds back up to the surface.

God bless the families of Newtown, CT.

BHO could be the Great Leader the libs have wished for and according to the UN, the President of the World.

In parts of Illinois, where Obama hails from, there is a .05 per bullet tax.

Sorry, this isn't true.  Yes, they talked about doing that, but it didn't even come up for real discussion.  I agree with most of what you said, just trying to not spread rumors.

The President can't enact a a complete ban on guns by signing any treaties.  The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Constitution and the 1957 case, Reid v. Covert, the Supreme Court established that the Constitution supersedes international treaties.

The treaty is supposed to clamp down on International trade of arms.
