It seems that a thoroughly truthful, but decidedly anti-Obama headline got the Editor of the Chattanooga Times Free Press fired.  Here is the headline:

...."Take your jobs plan and shove it, Mr. President: Your policies have harmed Chattanooga enough." ....

This is good stuff!!

Enjoy,

Drew Johnson is a helluvan editor and a staunch libertarian. This absolutely needs to be reversed. The relatively new editor-in-chief is a flaming liberal, though I am sure that had nothing to do with it.....

Here's the Chattanooga Times Free Press leadership page, with phone numbers. Which one's the "relatively new editor-in-chief" that is a flaming liberal?

They say he violated policy and changed the headline from an approved headline to the one that ran in the paper. He maintains he followed common practice and there was no policy until after the fact,  Personally, I thought the headline was spot on,

If I were a multi-multi millionaire I'd buy him his own fricken newspaper.

I also see there are 77 comments in the article, and almost all of them are against the editor. Note that a lot of them claim he is racist for his remarks. How?

Well you're right about one thing. Todd Foster is a flaming libtard.

He was at the Bristol Herald Courier for a few years.

And a major reason that the only use that rag sees in my house is as charcoal starter.  I quit subscribing to it years ago, yet they continued to throw it in my driveway (even after acknowledging that I didn't have to pay for it).  Finally had to hand deliver a letter threatening to have the courier arrested for littering if it showed up tossed on my driveway again to get them to quit.

I guess the free press is not really free.

This makes me sick. We have an affirmative action president who can't be criticized for his policies because people cry racism. That is one of the reasons this country is going to hell in a hand basket in addition to multi-culturalism ( as opposed to melting pot) and political correctness.

I'm disappointed the guy got fired over this. Generally approved of the article. I generally disapprove of the gov picking winners and losers, etc.

Maybe it is hypocritical, but my main beef is that Johnson picked EPB fiberoptics as an example to rant about on the evils of govt corporatism. He could have picked many programs with no redeeming qualities at all, but managed to pick a program that does have some redeeming qualities, which weakens his argument.

For instance Johnson could have picked on TVA's wind/solar initiatives and been on stronger ground outlining a completely useless program that will never break even and provides no measurable benefit. Or many other examples, considering that most gov programs deliver substandard product, regardless of the price.

Perhaps it is philosophically wrong for the gov to have helped build the EPB fiberoptic net, and perhaps it is true that the net will never pay for itself-- Time will tell.

However, in my experience, the EPB fiberoptics is about the only example I can think of at the moment of a government-related program that delivers excellent, top-notch product. AT&T and Comcast both SUCK compared to epbfi, and those two companies have sucked many years, and most likely will suck far into the future. I'd prefer epbfi over those "private sector" solutions even at double the price, because it is just generally excellent. Maybe it will go downhill in the future but I can't say good enough things about the service they deliver to me.

In addition, it isn't fair to hold Comcast or AT&T up as paragons of private enterprise, because such utilities for more than a century operate as limited monopolies blessed by the government. So it isn't exactly like Comcast or AT&T get no favors from the gov. AT&T, comcast, TN American water company, Electric Power Board, are ALL government blessed local monopolies, and therefore it may be unfair to pick on EPB "unfairly competing against helpless private companies" when they all enjoy special monopoly status. Either in law or at least in practice.

So if one gov-endorsed monopoly, EPB, delivers incredibly better service than Comcast or AT&T, other companies in the same favored positions, then it is a very foggy point to argue about the virtues of private enterprise and the evils of government.

Ferinstance I'd bet dollars to donuts that if the gov had given all that money to AT&T, then AT&T would have spent the money and STILL SUCKED WEENIES. Similarly, if the gov had given all that money to comcast, then comcast would have digested all that money and STILL SUCKED. Maybe it was bad to hand out the money at all, but at least it bought an excellent network.

Catching the repeat of Greta right now, she's interviewing Drew Johnson. Looks like he'll be getting some press around FOX in next day or so, probably O'Reilley or Hannity or both.

"Another job loss due to Obama" he said with a grin.

My guess is with the exposure, he'll get picked up by some conservative media or other, Tucker Carlson, Jim Demint, etc. Hell, maybe FOX itself.

I thought the same thing. I have enjoyed his articles since he has been in Chattanooga, and wish him well.

Dear Lord. The "Conservative" editorial page that ran Drew Johnson's editorials previously has a large editorial today supporting Chris Christie. (for those not politically geared, Christie MOST CERTAINLY does not = conservative)

I am going to have to cancel my subscription to this freakin' rag.
