Background check problems (TICS)

(Sorry if this is a repost)

So I recently went to purchase a handgun at a local big chain store.  I failed the background check which was a big surprise.  I was worried that someone stole my identity and stuff like that, but after running a background check on myself through my job which checks the national criminal database, I come out clean. (which wasn't a shock, I've never been arrested or anything like that) So not sure what could be causing it to fail.  So anyway I filed an appeal 15 days ago, and still I haven't recieve anything in the mail or by email, and the store I was attempting to make my purchase at says they haven't recieved anything as well.  They also say I shouldn't be calling them because I will be the one who is contacted by TICS.  I know TICS has 15 days to gather the needed information to attempt to process the appeal, and after 15 days I was under the impression that the dealer or myself would receive some sort of information saying I can continue with the purchase, or at the very least what my next step would be.

Has anyone gone through anything like this lately?  I attempt to call TICS and I receive a message saying that becuase of high call volume blah blah blah, they are not accepting phone calls at this time, and I should stay in contact with my dealer for more information.

I guess I'm looking for what my next step should be, the dealer in this case isn't much help and I don't know who else to contact regarding the status on my appeal.

Any informaiton at all would be nice, hell, if someone tells me they went through the same thing and it took them longer, that would make me feel a little better.

thanks again

hmmm...I'm curious as to the holdup...The idiots denied me once...I had a loose end on a misdemeanor judgement from 20 years ago(no final outcome listed on the judgement)...once i took care of that, i have not been denied since...

They will likely overturn the denial within a week or so...

When I was declined at the dealer I wasn't too happy so I just got the information I needed for the appeal and left.  The following day I called back to verify the information they entered in for the background check, I wanted to make sure they entered everything in correctly, because again I would know if I was a felon or not a US citizen.  And I had him read me back the name they entered in and he said they used the SSN.  So I'm totally confused as to my next step.  Not sure who I need to contact or what my next step should be.

Most of the time it is because of some charge in the past that doesn't show proper resolution paperwork in court system. And charge does not have to be a disqualifying one for TICS or NICS to hang things up, and I don't think you necessarily know which it was either.

Has it been 15 working days, like M-F?

As a former FFL, I can tell you that it is not uncommon. When I pressed TICS about why a customers appeal was not responded to, they would always tell me that many of the appeals were either incomplete or illegible resulting in them being unable to be processed. They recommend that the appeal form be completed in the gun shop and the dealer fax it to them. That way the dealer can check it to make sure it is complete and legible. I also had a customer denied at a gun show who came back 30 minutes later and told me they had approved him for a gun purchase from another dealer. I called him in again and that time they approved it. Go figure?

Well I guess I complained 1 day early, I got everything approved about an hour ago.  Now it's time to go spend some money!

So any indication from them what happened so it can be fixed for the future?

The current TICS software automatically fills in your SSN. It uses your TNDL number to identify you. Everything autofills after that.

There are 5 gals working the forms, and they are doing on average 1600 a DAY. By the end of the year, every shop is to have a computer terminal where the customer enters the info themselves. Curious to see how that's going to go...

I used a computer at OutPost Armory over a year ago to enter my info when I was buying my PMR-30.  I thought it was efficient.

Last 3 4473s I've filled out have been on a computer. It works fine. Just like a program install wizard. Just answer and click "next"

On a install wizard clicking too fast without reading can get you spyware. But on a 4473 clicking too fast can get you a Sheriff asking why your a crazy illegal alien fugitive felon doing a straw purchase.
