  1. Well, after convincing my self I probably would never own one of these due to gun show sticker shock, a funny thing happened at the GB C&R listings. I bid the opening bid price and not a dollar more. Were all the Marlin fans out there asleep at their key boards? Apparently because I ended up with this fine example of what Marlin was making back in 1905. Sure, it doesn't have the much desired full crescent butt plate, the barrel joint was described as a bit loose and the poor thing has a bulge in the bore up front as so many do..... but still, the rest of the gun is totally unmolested in original fit and finish with a triple A fancy feathered crotch wood butt. At $575 + $46 to ship with insurance added, this nearly passes for a Religious experience! One major plus is the wood to metal fit. You guys have no idea how much it grinds my guts to see a stock that was sanded below the metal edge lines. Especially on a fine old early cartridge gun. The model 36 (pictured) I have came to me that way . After a thorough examination of the loose barrel shank, I have a plan to repair that and I have a older shutzen gun works .308 stainless barrel that will get turned into a liner and soldered into the 26 inch long octagon. Both of the square bolts are 30-30's & ya gotta love the 9 round capacity of the 1893. Yup, put another neat project on the back burner....

  2. Yeah, depending on when it was barreled Century was using 5.56 barrels and they had horrible keyholing issues. This is back when when Century was at the height of developing their gorrilla gunsmithing reputation. Supposedly they fixed the issue and their reputation (to some degree) but there are some still out there and I don't think anyone knows how many they brought in that way. Hard to tell without proper gauges. I tend to stay away from those and the Tantals unless I can verify the proper barrel. Dealing with Century for those issues is a nightmare. That being said I had a Tantal and is was a great gun with the proper barrel.

  3. I think some of the magic a Marlin holds over a Winchester for me is the ease in taking the actions apart & reassembly. The Marlins practically fall apart in your hands while blind folded. The Winchester 94's practically need spot light lighting, pinch, pull, push technique all the while "come along little doggy" is playin in the back ground. Iv, been inside more than a few 94's but the Marlins are whats in my safe. All tho when it comes to the Win 1892, a smoother lever gun has yet to be conceived by the human mind... hands down!

  4. There was a BIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGG buck behind my house chasing does when I left for work this morning. For some reason, I was thinking muzzleloader season ended last Sunday evening, and bow season resumed from Monday morning until Friday evening. If I had known muzzleloader was still, open, I'd have been late for work. Now that I know, he 'd better not show his face again! I made pictures with my phone, but you can't tell anything about him in the pics.

  5. I want to thank you guys and who ever the member on Akfiles is. This fixed my issue, I spent a few days working on it and spoke with TWS customer service, which is awesome. They say this happens in very few rifles but recommended a way to correct it. It did not work for me but this guys did. Thank you again!

  6. With the crooked hats and the lever gun shoved barrel first in the dirt, did you mean they look...troubled?

  7. Wear it to the game on Saturday, hunting on Sunday, and picking up trash on Monday. I don't see why they would spare him the indignity at this point. The season's done, may as well let him go down with the ship.

  8. It done GOOD!!! I'd almost swear its the same pull as my Apex trigger on my M&P. It's sweet and I should have done this way sooner.

  9. Seeing that it is a black powder arm, there probably isn't any record on it. I'd bet the old man decided he didn't like cleaning it and robbed parts from it for a Blackhawk.

  10.   The best I can describe it is faster recoil, allowing you to get back on target faster, and it feels like you're fighting the gun less during recoil.   When I used to teach classes, I'd have a stock G19 and a G19 with a 15lb recoil spring side x side, loaded with the same ammo. The vast majority of people noticed a positive difference when using the 15lb spring.  Also, I believe it offers increased reliability when firing from somewhat comprimised shooting positions.   Is it earthshattering?  No, but worth it to me. And this is coming from an Armorer who believes Glocks are best left stock as much as possible. Regards

  11. There are clips, and then there are magazines. In any case, it should not damage either one to keep them loaded. Springs wear from being cycled, not from being compressed.
