  2. "Teen suspect killed in restaurant robbery attempt is Nashville's third self-defense shooting in ten days" That is the headline of a story right now. All three were attempting to rob people at gun point when they got shot. The good guys have been charged. I hate to break it to you, but the Nashville DA has charged a cop with murder for doing exactly what you described. And if they can do with him; it will be a lot easier to do it with any of us. [RANT ON] It burns me up that the liberals and conservatives alike want to hold innocent citizens responsible for the actions of criminals. These laws they want will never hold up to a court challenge. Also, how are they going to determine if the car was locked or not; ask the criminal? Don’t laugh at that; I bet that’s what they do. Plea bargain with a statement the vehicle was unlocked at they get a conviction plus another suspect that might have some money they can get. I keep a gun in my car. I go places I can't carry it. I lock my car. That doesn't mean a criminal can't commit a burglary by opening my car. One of us gets arrested because a gun stolen from our car was used in a crime and bet you have gun owners lined up to say "He should have had his car locked." or "He should have had a safe in his car." I have an idea. Unhandcuff the Police, tell them to stop the violent crime in their areas of assignment, assure them that when they arrest the violent thugs with guns those criminals will go to jail and they won’t get out for a very long time, give your Officers the support they deserve; have their back. 3. Another nut job with no regard for human life. I'm afraid the misery of his actions will cause a great deal of grief long after he gets the needle. He needs to get some Hell on earth before he goes to the real one.

  4. Evening news says: Young man, early 20s. Picture shows a AK type rifle in his hands. Taken into custody without incident. No shots fired by Police. Brief mentions of the words "socialist" and "manifesto". I'm guessing that what we have here is crazy young man with a agenda he wants to spread. I'm also guessing he intends to use his trial as a platform.

  5. One thing when talking about these $100 or less rifles is the cost of inflation and adjust for year. Assuming its mostly 80's, that $100 is more like $250. These are still more, but here are less, so you know. But these aint nothing like the insane increase in M1 Carbines. I remember the shot I use to go to in the 80's which had 2 55 gallon drums filled with them and would go on sale for $69 (normally $89). They were some pretty nice ones. How much is one of those now? 1K or better. Guess that makes these pretty cheap?

  6. Update to my Glock 48. Mine is the duo tone model. Did a polish on internals and smoothed the trigger surface down so it is not so rough feeling. Put in a reduced firing pin spring (4.5 pounds) and a reduced firing pin safety spring. Ended up with a very decent 4.5-5.0 trigger pull that is smooth and breaks good. I have been practicing a lot with the Glock and find it shoots better for me than any other Glock.

  7. The 1911 is an easy gun to work on. I don't have the equipment to do machine work. I've never fitted a barrel. But I have done pretty much everything else to one. Just go slow, take your time and test fit often. Remember that its easy to remove metal, but damned hard to put it back. I highly recommend Jerry Kuhnhausen's book on gunsmithing the 1911. Years ago I asked an old gunsmith how do you get in this business? His reply was "Jump in and go for it. But be prepared to pay for your mistakes."

  8. This reminds me of the old ship repairman story. There are a bunch of different versions of it, but the gist of all is the same.

  9. Doing competent gun work comes down to a person's skill level with tools. There are various levels of mechanically inclined individuals. There are a number of basics, a person should be unflinchingly comfortable with. Reading a Dial caliper and being able to file a true flat onto a surface. Are you prepared to buy a varied number of tools. The sad thing is a lot of folks "think" their basic maintenance auto mechanic skills will carry them threw. And for some it may, but others just end up with a zip lok baggy being dropped of at a Gunsmith shop. So a day or week end may only tell you if you maybe, kinda, sorta have the skill talent to shape, fit and form gun steel. Best thing is buy your self some clunkers and see if you can install non fitting sights, make new grip panels "better" that the originals, learn trigger sear function and the geometery in the various designs. Having the ability to understand the function of each interrelated gun part is a key mechanical ability that not many folks have. Where you fall into those abilities will show up in your clunker reworks!

  10. My most positive personal experience with lower cost lights has been Streamlight. Come with tape switch and have worked very well for me. My Surefire has worked great but more pricey for sure. Also I have a Primary Arms light with tape switch that is very bright and has held up great for the year I’ve had it. Not a lot of time as far as testing goes so don’t want to brag too much. But I’d say it will do well in the long run as well.
