I have taken about a dozen people to Front Sight, near Las Vegas, for the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Course.  It is an excellent course whether a beginner or a seasoned shooter.  It is 4 full days, very structured.  You will shoot about 600 rounds.  I have taken the course 3 times, as well as other courses offered.  If you want to go, contact me for a course certificate or membership....don't pay the list price noted on the web site.  I have had classes with other trainers, some which  have been mentioned, and they are good as well, but IMO, for where you are in your shooting, you won't be sorry about the Front Sight course.

Yes , failure to go into battery.  This happens much more frequently with Lead, RN or SWC,.  OAL is 1.260, and fit in case gauge...  These are my reloads and I have a some issues in my R1, and Colt CC, but less frequent.  But I have had it happen with FMJ FN 200 gr as well, but only in the Sig.  Shot in a match Sat. with no FTB, just didn't do to slidelock a few times.  But this was with FMJ RN, 4.7gr Bullseye.  It was cold, don't know if it was the mag(s), Wilsons, or maybe low temps and lighter load?  Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

I have the 1911 Sig Nitron. Yes it works with factory rounds, except for the times it won't go to slide lock with various mags, including Wilson. Like a previous poster, the chamber was reamed and polished on the first return to Sig. But some of my reloads with flat points FTB. Don't even try SWC or LRN, even though they ALL go through a chamber gauge. Sent it back again. Test fire was OK, sent it back with no additional work done. Now with close inspection with the slide open, the barrel, when pushed back meets flush with the feed ramp. From what I have read, all 1911 should have at least a 1/32 shelf at this junction. My guess is that this is the issue. I'm going to call Sig again, but to be honest, I've about had it for a gun that costs this much to have to break it in, send it back, etc. etc. MY Remington R1 performs circles around the Sig 1911.

Well nothing like the voice of experience. I would use Them as my 2nd choice. Still got to say they are different for a reason though.

Interesting. Looks like light strikes could be an issue. Also doesn't answer the "sealing" question . But desperate times . .......if that was all that was available I'd use them.

It is not the pressure at seating, it is the flattening at ignition which seals the pocket.  Simply do a little google search.  It isn't that you can't use them, but maybe they are different for a purpose.

What they don't tell you is that the gun they were killed with was the one brought into the home by the assailant.  Of course it also includes suicides.  The knee jerk reaction by the uninformed is that the studies indicate that the owners gun is the one that killed the owner.

I have read that SRP are thicker and more resistant to deformity.  In turn they don't flatten and seal the primer pocket completely, thereby letting hot gases leak around the edges of the primer and will etch the bolt face of a pistol.  The pistol pressures are by in large a lot lower than the ones the rifles produces therby producing the forementioned effects.

Tumbler should be about 175.  Media around 40, and never needs replaced.  Check ebay for tumbler.  Mine is a 12#, I do about 250 cases at a time, and tumbles 4 -6 hours.  These are rock tumblers.  Some folks make their own.  Check you tube.

IMO  stainless media with a Lortone or Thumble Tumbler is the way to go.  One time expense, clean and shiny brass inside and out.  No dust.  I've had both...no comparison.

At a public range this week sitting behind line. Fella turned to me, slide closed, finger on trigger, and muzzled me.... TWICE. I rather sternly said don't do that again. He didn't and I hope it sticks with him for a while. You have to always watch at all ranges as safety is everyone's responsibility.

Well at least they have some .22.   You can't find it at Walmart or Academy.  I'm sure they paid more than usual for it, and have to mark it up accordingly.   CCA has new owners now.  Lighting is much better on the range.  The staff is knowledgable, and they the place is generally packed.  These are tough times for everyone in the gun industry with low inventory.  I'm not sure how a company stays in business if you don't have product to sell, let alone the political attacks on the industry.  So a lot to consider before you accuse someone of gouging.  If times get even worse, just see if your neighborhood Walmart doesn't jump ship, just like Dick's, Cheaper than Dirt , etc.

I know the shield is a great little 9.  But recently I had the chance to handle it and the Taurus 709.  These guns are almost identical in feel and size.  They fit the same holster.  Same weight, etc.  I had really wanted a shield, but already have the 709.  That comparison sure dampened my fire for the shield.  Given that the shield is so hard to find,  if you get the chance look at the 709 and save a little cash.  Mine has been flawless, have recommended it several times, and now I don't have to spend extra cash for the shield.

Clean it.  And if you want it to look new inside and out, stainless steel pins are the way to go.

Liability insurance isn't needed until it's needed :popcorn: sort of like any other insurance.

I would typically stay away from the 1911 unless it is just an itch that has to be scratched.  They have more maintenance, overall more fiddle factor, and generally more money than you need to spend.  With that said there are a lot of good .45 1911s...Taurus, Remington, Springfield, etc. for around $600 - $700.   BUT, if you just have to have the 'big hole' in the .45, and you want a very reliable, easy to operate gun, I'd go with the Smith M&P or the Springfield XD.

? REALLY ?  Practicing shooting indoors without ear protection?  That's like knowing you are going to have to eat a :poop: sandwich..........when it comes time to do it, you just gotta do it.....but you don't practice for it   :screwy:

NYC police commisioner RAY KELLY stated the following facts on today's program   1.  The problems are handguns. (my comment:  don't think for a minute the gun-grabbers will be happy with any sort of magazine capacity ban or other assault weapon ban; 'they' want them all.)   2. 2% of the firearms arrest were for assault weapons (refer to #1)   3.  60% of murders in NYC were with handguns. (refer to #1)  (also, that is very close to half of all murders, if a gun was not available there are still plenty of other options, obviously)   The BHO administration has essentially ignored enforcement of current regulations.  Look at other countries where firearms are illegal.....Mexico for example, where no one is safe because of the corruption of government officials and the drug cartels.  How well did prohibition on alchohol work?  Prostitution?  Regulating psuedophed?  Or any of the other poorly ran Federal programs?  MY opinion is don't give them one more thing.....as the old saying goes, just say "NO".......or the new saying  "HELL NO."
