  1. Although bolt-actions are incredibly simple they require far more skill than slapping together an AR.  First you'll need to find a barrel that fits with the correct threading.  I don't know anything about buying Mauser action barrels but am pretty sure a barrel in that caliber will most likely be a custom job......more than the cost of an entire Mosin rifle.   The barrel on bolt-actions such as this are screwed in and held on with nothing more than good old-fashioned tension.  There aren't any screws, pins, gas tube or anything else to hold it in place.  It has to be screwed down tight!  You'll need some kind of barrel or receiver wrench to do it right....then there's the headspacing.  That will require not only gauges but a lathe to tune the barrel face if needed to adjust it correctly.   Not saying it's not doable,  just thinking it will be really expensive.
  2. Unless you really want to take on a project of that magnitude it would be cheaper just to buy a Mosin.  Are you a gunsmith or do you have all the tools to mount and headspace a barrel?
  3. That's a real game changer.  :bored:
  4. It's a Siamese Mauser action alright.
  5. Doppler radar apparently has something to do with it.
  6. I bet those commercials come on at about 3:38 in the AM.
  7. Unless it's Blazer .22 of course, which is brass. But I know you know that. ;)
  8. By the time you're done asking questions your old lady'll be out of prison.
  9.   I believe he's referring to ammo.
  10. I wonder how many times they shot themselves before getting it right.
  11.   Could you imagine the size of it if they did?

    Weird shotgun

      This!
  13. He's cost me a lot of money!
  14.   He's been threatening to veto the bill for weeks now.  Not clear on why but there's a good chance this might be a victim of collateral damage.
  15. FYI, that Marlin was made in 1971.
  16. SOG may be charging that much since they went to all the effort of taking actual photos and posting them of the thing.  This seems to be a new development.   Seems to me SOG has always been a bit on the high side for their "collector" pieces.
  17. That looks like a bit for one of those weird screw heads.
  18.   I was thinking an old Marlin goose gun would be much more satisfying.
  19.   Pretty sure they would be as all 1911 contracts were cancelled at the end of WWII (I'm fairly certain of that).
  20. For those interested here is the exact verbiage authorizing the transfers from the final bill being sent for his majesty's approval:   https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/114/hr1735/text/enr#link=A_X_G_1087&nearest=H87B6FE20649145D0B2612406666FFC1B
  21. The last I heard the Senate put in some stipulations:   1)  The CMP must get an FFL and sell the handguns through normal FFL procedures. 2)  They will only be allowed 10,000 per year.
  22.   You thinking about September's American Rifleman?  Yes, the price of Snake guns has gone through the roof....they were expensive enough brand new.
  23. My guess is hickory as well but there are many good hardwoods to smoke with.  All in excess will ruin the meat.   Some good local places use nothing but charcoal and it tastes mighty fine....you just smell the meat cooking.

    45 GAP?...

While I don't exactly follow your first paragraph I see no purpose for .45 GAP.  If you are worried about cost it is more expensive than 10mm which is more expensive than .357 SIG.
  25.   Do you regularly peruse the Huffpost gay page.
