  1. M1 Garands and M1A's have a gas system designed for a specific pressure and bullet. The GI issue rounds for those rifles are loaded to a LOWER pressure than commecial rounds which are usually designed for more hunting-oriented shooters. Higher pressure. Garands in particular are prone to ruination with continued use of high pressure commercial rounds. Basically it bend the operating rod. Adjustable Gas-plug can be installed to prevent this. I assume M1A is the same - have no experience with them. Fast forward to the 5.56/.223. The AR, NATO or whatever you call it 5.56mm is much higher pressure than the commercial .223 round. Guess it has to be to make that teeny boollit do anything.
  2. I just might know someone with a steel plate, complete with a big Go Vols orange dot painted on it and ready for perforation.
  3. You should be able to get those little plastic push bolt doohikies from the dealer. I know they have a name but have forgotten. I had to buy a handful when replacing the power antenna on my 4runner. Seems like they were around .50 cents apiece. I see no reason why the Ford ones should be any more than the Toyota ones.
  4. I think you've got an Elk, armadillo and groundhog all plottin' on ya.
  5. Have not heard that. Only that a 20 year-old bought a handgun somewhere. That's illegal.
  6. You might want to check out some of the other rags in the Scripps-Howard dynasty. We're pretty well off compared to the KNS's sister paper in Memphis.
  7. What's to become of little Blanket? Most likely end up a retard!
  8. Saturday AM? Not that I'm interested or anything. But if the opportunity arises.
  9. Personally, I refer to myself as "Northern-European American", semi-tall.
  10. Reagan was a Cali Republican. Governor even. Is there a difference?
  11. I think the R. party shed her like a wet blanket after all the spending sprees during the campaign.
  12. Don't disgrace the Flock and that one song.
  13. How'd you find that in all that black & purple madness? Read the same this morning before the switch-a-roo. Hope those 30 people had a good time.
  14. Hippies have far better taste.
  15. Welcome to TGO. I don't have an XD but know several who do. Many own them because of the grip safety and I tend to agree. In little hands it might make all the difference.
  16. How so? ATF agents are investigating based on records in their possesion, right? If I'm wrong please let me know because I do not believe in all this "our guns are not registered business". They are not by law but technically there is a record, i.e. database that is traceable. There are a bunch of federal forms with my name and serial numbers on them, so I accept that fact.
  17. Check this...http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/2nd-amendment-issues/23790-batfe-checking-gun-owners-border-states.html
  18. I'd like to introduce everyone to what must be the ugliest newspaper website ever designed: Knoxville News Sentinel: Local Knoxville, Tennessee News Delivered Throughout the Day. I hate the KNS but it's the only paper around here. This is just awful.
  19. Thanks, but sorry, this has been well discussed hereabouts.
  20. Just my but I prefer the .40 over 9mm. No rational reason behind it other than it's bigger and harder hitting. Is a bit snappier. As far as XD vs. XDM goes, will the shooter be able to take advantage of a match grade barrel over regular production?
  21. Never pondered that. I only have a man Smith. Don't know about the price on this (high) but maybe the model #'s will give you an idea: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=162234
  22. Very nice. My first pistola was/is a Smith 39. Still have it! Great gun, fun to shoot, easy to hold. The only difference is the rear sight.
