  1. I agree with nsnate. 1 gen 17s are becoming less common with respect to being handed across the gun counters across the land, but they are by no means rare. Keep it...shoot it...enjoy it. Anything trading you will do will end up costing you more than if you bought something else outright.
  2. Don't waste your money on books....go to rimfirecentral.com They are THE answer for any 10/22 questions. I would get a used one if possible simply because they have moved to painted barrels and plastic trigger guards in the past 6 or so months to current production. They are the '69 Chevy of the gun world...so there is no problem doing whatever you want to make it "yours"
  3. Think they would get offended if we called up and offered what it is worth...about $400?
  4. I am still kicking my self for not gobbling up the $29 cases last Christmas. I should have got the truck and bought the whole pallet.
  5. If you buy bulk bullets and use fast powder you can reload CHEAP. I still (by shopping around) can reload 124 grainers ahead of Unique and Wolf bulk primers for less than $5 for box of 50. Only thing that really costs is the time spent reloading. Easy to justify when it is raining all day long, but it hasn't done that in a long, long time. Get your C&R FFL for $30....sent copies to Midway, Brownells, and Graf & Sons. Shop the deals and you can shoot cheap.
  6. My SP101 is about that heavy. It is the size as mutch as it is the weight. Find a goold holster and a good belt and it is no problem. The problem is that if you are in good shape and are about that size with a 30 inch waistline...it is very hard to hide it in the summer without using a shoulder rig or just switching to pocket carry using a P3AT or J-Frame
  7. No
  8. 2400, Unique, and Bullseye...tried and true. //and dirty
  9. Thank that is fun...try that 00 buckshot on a gallon jug of water that has the cap duct taped tight holy friggin cow those things are mean!!!
  10. The $20 one that you can get at Harbor Freight tools are honestly as good as any for the work that you are doing (reloading). The more expensive ones are nice, but for as little as you use them...no problem with the cheap ones. That and you don't cry if you drop it.
  11. Why would I carry a .38 with only 4 rounds in the cylinder?!?
  12. Walmart now sells crossbows for cheap...at a $30 red dot as someone else has mentioned before and you have the perfect urban varmint eradicator. Sit out one night near the garage or open a bedroom window and pick off one of them. Wait a week or so and do it again. Be secretive and your neighbors won't know at all. Make sure you have your Hunting papers ($30 also from wal-mart) per year just in case it does get unwanted attention. It sounds bad, but all you have to do is hit them with the broadhead...wouldn't be too concerned about a clean kill or losing a bolt from the bow as long as they are die eventually.
  13. If you actually incorporated TGO and issued stock to the benefactors based on contributions...you might actually be able to somehow pull it off.
  14. Yep...I will throw in the 5th vote for a 38/357 revolver with a SD .38 load. You can't go wrong with that setup.
  15. And one chambered in .460 S&W will fire all 3. /This is fun...there are a LOT of combinations that people generally don't know about. Another obscure one...your pristine .475 Linebaugh will also safely shoot .480 Ruger cartridges. Don't forget that your .22lr will shoot .22 long and .22 Shorts as well as old school .22cb (conical ball - a bb) if you can find them. However you can NOT safely shoot any of these in a .22 Magnum gun.
  16. There are actually quite a lot when talking straight walled cartridges. Many exist, but many have also become obsolete over the years. General rule of thumb is that if it is straight walled...there are several different relevant/irrelevant chamberings of different length. For example they actually made a .357 maximum that (if you really wanted to) could be "made" to shoot the following with little difficulty... ---------------------------------- .357 Max --> .357 Mag --> .38 super (with moon clips) --> .38 Special --> .38 Long Colt --> .38 Short Colt ----------------------------------
  17. 1) The simple fact that some of them think that since they are a local business...you are somehow a traitor if you don't buy from them. --and-- 2) I swear that some gun shops don't know who their competition really is. If you own a shop you are not only competing with Wal-Mart, but Midway, Brownells, and any number of online retailers. Some of them really, really need to spend about 30 minutes online and see what they are up against. I am sorry, but if my local shop has something that I can get for 50% of what they are asking via online retailer...they don't stand a chance. The margins are thin on actual firearms...there really isn't a price difference worth mentioning between local vs. anywhere else...a cardinal sin however is the thinking that one can screw their customers eyeballs out by charging huge amounts for everything else. Good example...I can buy bulk 7.62 x 39 ammo at $180 per 1000 shipped all day long...That is $3.60 per box. How much are local shops charging for the same thing? Don't even get me started on reloading components/supplies.
  18. Yes...yes it does! There are many, many different types of stainless (as opposed to one, "true" stainless) Any ferrous metal will rust. Some just take longer than others. Heck even aluminum will rust if you prevent it from forming it's protective oxide layer (put a little mercury on structural aluminum and see what happens). The best thing that I have found to fix SS oxidation is the "scotch-brite" pads that home depot and lowes sell. The green ones are quite abrasive so I suggest using the burgundy or gray pads for a nice satin finish.
  19. There are several websites that will reference the s/n for age. If it is under 50 years old you can send it back to Marlin and they will do a WONDERFUL job restoring it to 100% like new condition for a very, very reasonable price (They did my 48 year 39A for under $200 including the reblue!) Nice gun! That pistol-grip cap will set you back all of $5 and the wood can look perfect again using Minwax Antique Oil finish. Why can't I stumble into more deals like this!?!?
  20. I am an avid tinkerer. One of my favorite projects is a MAME arcade machine. If you played arcade games in the 80's and 90's you need one of these. Mine has over 60,000 games at last count. CLICK HERE
  21. I would have a hard time paying $2000 on a custom 1911 that still only shoots as good as a decent $300 Mark II rimfire Pistol with a $60 trigger job. Yes it is apples and oranges, but the performance is similar and the mechanics of both are not indicative of that large of a price difference....Classic Ford vs. Ferrari analogy.
  22. FYI...it is very easy to convert .44 magnum cases to .44 special. There is only 0.125" to remove (1.285" trimmed down to 1.160"). Using a lee case trimmer or a fancy Lyman trimmer you just size it as if it where .44 special.
  23. No kidding?!?!!? If that where my local store I would have purchased everything they had. seriously...$1000, $2000, whatever they had on hand!
  24. The scary thing is that those videos are intended to be (in a sick way) humorous. The ones that really scar you are the ones of car wrecks, war injuries, or other things that are just plain horrible. You don't have to look deep to realize there is some really, really evil stuff on the net. I like to think I am a pretty tough, thick skinned individual...have been reduced to nothing when seeing some of the horrors that have been captured on film/photo...it gets exponentially worse when venturing out to usenet.
  25. You people are way too serious...That is the best thing I have seen on the intettubes in a long while! While my wife is in the shops buying useless crap I would pay money to see stuff like that at Hamilton Place Mall. Awesome!!!!
