It would depend entirely what you may expect to encounter. Big, small, two legged critters? Arm for what's out there where you're going. Personally, I'd go with a good .357 or .44 caliber large frame revolver with a 4 to 6" barrel in a good OWB holster with a secure strap of some kind. Also, a long gun wouldn't be out of the question. They do make saddle scabbards ya know. But, as mentioned, make sure the horse is agreeable. It would be a real shame if you had to shoot, only to have the horse throw you and break your neck. Even if you dismounted first, at the very least, you'd probably be going home on foot. Horses ain't real fond of sudden loud noises. They tend to run away.

A sound bar with voice settings works for me. I have a fairly inexpensive Polk that I found at Best Buy. Made a world of difference to me.

Just got the e-mail. IDPA and USPSA matches at MSSA are cancelled due to Corona virus concerns. Oh well, at least the range is still open. For now at least.

They're doing what politicians do best. Throwing money at the problem. But consider how many people in this country live paycheck to paycheck. Many of them are now out of work. Many of them will be low on groceries soon. If, and that's a big IF these folks take that money and use it to care for their families, this will be a good thing. Honestly, I can see crime going way up in the near future with people doing bad things to support their families. This isn't just a health crisis Its a major economic crisis. Never underestimate the power of desperation.

I gave up on CTD many years ago. I was going to order three items. It turned out that they were all in different warehouses and CTD wanted to charge separate shipping for each one. Hell, the shipping was almost as much as the order would have been!

Gee, all ti took was a world wide pandemic to make them understand they're responsible for their own safety. As for me, I could arm a small army if it came to it. I learned from the Obama years.

One only has to look at all the various topics this thread has covered to see how broadly this virus is affecting every part of our existence. Medical, business, financial and social aspects of our lives are changing dramatically by the minute. I sure as hell can't keep up with it all and I seriously doubt the government can either. Right or wrong, at least they are trying. Mistakes have been and will be made as this progresses. Expect that. What we're dealing with here is a force of nature. We can't stop it any more than we could stop a flood or tornado. All we can do is ride it out as best we can and try to pick up the pieces when its over. However, unlike a physical disaster, this thing is gonna drag on for a long time. Even if a cure were found tomorrow, it would take months to make and distribute enough of it to make a real difference. Most people are looking at this like it could all end tomorrow and we can go right back to our usual self absorbed lives. I really expect this disease to screw up our lives for at least a year. So hunker down folks. We're all about to be taught some hard lessons. Pray that we learn from them.

My younger son is 35 years old and works for the Geek Squad at the local Best Buy. Having heard so much about how younger people aren't taking this seriously, I wanted to see where he stands. I worry about him being out there in the retail world with this stuff going around. Turns out that both he and the store are taking this very seriously. Lots of hand sanitizer readily available to all employees. They're told if you feel sick at all, stay home. Sick leave available to all. Don't take chances. He also told me the store is doing a booming business. What with so many people working from home, they're selling lap tops right and left. Along with all the stuff that goes with them. Folks are buying lots of stuff and preparing for a quarantined life on the internet. He also told me that if the store should have to close, he will still be working. It seems that they have a lot of customer equipment in for repair and those folks would completely freak out if they couldn't get their stuff back. So Geek Squad will keep working even if the store is closed. The plan is that when a repair is done, they'll call the customer and have them meet at the door to pick up the item. That's pretty good planning to me. We further discussed the virus and I'm happy to say my son has his head screwed on straight. He knows how bad this could get. He's taking proper precautions but not panicking. But as we wrapped it up, he looked and me and said "You keep your butt in the house! If you need anything, I'll bring it to you." My boy does me proud. So anybody else know of businesses with back-up plans in motion? Tell us about it. I'm wondering who else has a backup plan.

I believe these shortages are just temporary and stores will restock within just a few days. However, if this virus spreads as predicted, somewhere down the line factories and transportation may start shutting down. Then serious. long term shortages may happen. All we can do is wait and see.

I love 'em and have bunch of wheelguns. I collect Smith & Wesson revolvers. Got a few Colts and a Ruger too. I often carry a little 642. Sometimes a 3" Model 10. But I will admit that my primary carry is a Colt Commander .45acp. I sorta have a thing for 1911s too.

Many years ago at the old Shelby County range before it got closed, I was pretty good friends with the Rangemaster. I came in one day and he said "Ya gotta see this!" He went on to explain how a private instructor had brought out a group to shoot for handgun permit qualification. This one small, older woman had never shot a handgun before, but she had bought one and paid for the class to get her permit. The COF was a possible 100 points, you needed a score of 70 to pass. He showed me the target, which he had saved. The lady had a total score of 7. Completely missed the target 47 out of 50 shots.

I missed this thread earlier and had just posted my shopping experience in the Covid-19 thread. So I just copied and pasted it here. I go grocery shopping once a month. I usually later make a small trip to the store once or twice for items I forgot or just run out of. I did my shopping last week and it was fine. Just another routine trip to the store. Well I forgot a couple of items and a disabled friend asked me to pick up a few things for her. So I went to Kroger this morning. WHOA! What a mad house! The place was packed! People everywhere with carts piled high! All the usual stuff that;s already been reported was gone. Lots of empty shelf space. This store normally has one entire aisle of nothing but toilet paper. There were maybe 10-12 packs left. I'm ok on TP, but I didn't know about my friend. So I grabbed 3 six packs just because I was there and so was it. What little was left disappeared before I had cleared the aisle. What should have been a quick 10-15 minute stop at the store took over an hour due to the crowd. Top story on the local news tonight was about panic buying at local stores. It seems the mess I witnessed today is quite common all over the Memphis area. Oh well, I'm good for a couple of months at least. I feel sorry for those who waited and are now too late.

I'll go along with the group that says it depends entirely on the situation. Arm for what you're most likely to encounter. Ideally, I would want my M1A Scout/Squad, a 1911 on my hip and a good .22 pistol with suppressor in my pack. But that'a not set in stone.

I got an e-mail from CMP today. They're cancelling several matches scheduled at Camp Perry. Now you know ####s gettin' real.

The March Madness Collage basketball tournaments have announced that games will be played without fans in the seats. That's a loss of millions of dollars in ticket sales to the economy right there. Hate to say it, but I'm starting to think I may have been wrong and need to take this more seriously than I had been. I think this virus is just getting started. I believe its gonna last quite a while, spread pretty much everywhere and get a whole lot worse. This is a whole new strain of virus. Scientists are still trying to figure out exactly what it is, much less how to fight it. Most are guesstamating a cure or vaccine may be a year or more away. But, of course, about all any of us can do is take reasonable precautions and hope we don't get it. I live pretty much like a hermit anyway. So I think I'll be alright. However, I am concerned for my younger son and his fiance. He works retail and she works in a school. Not good at all for either of them.

I was married for 33 years to a feisty Italian woman. If there had been a home invasion, me and my gun would have been the back up.

The real impact of this disease isn't physical, its economic. People are told not to go to work, others are afraid to go anyplace that could be crowded. Companies are losing productivity. Stores have difficulty restocking needed goods. There is a manpower shortage. People are neither making or spending money. They're just sitting at home, wringing their hands and waiting for this to blow over. Getting sick is just the tip of this iceberg.

Ok, this is a serious disease and does need to be taken as such. It is spreading rapidly and needs to be kept a close eye on. However, I do also believe that MSM is over blowing the situation, spreading false information and inciting unneeded panic,solely for their own purposes. Ya know, never let a good crisis go to waste. I am not going to panic. I'm 65 years old and I do have COPD. Yeah, right in the prime group to die from this thing. I call BS! I might get it and then I might not. Who knows? I sure don't. I'll take reasonable precautions such as washing my hands and such. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna let it control my life. There is currently ONE confirmed case in Memphis. A female who recently traveled outside of the state, but not outside of the U.S. She is quarantined at Baptist Hospital and reportedly doing well. There is also ONE man who was in direct contact with this woman who is voluntarily on home quarantine. Reports say he is showing no symptoms. Ok, so that's ONE confirmed case and ONE maybe. Neither of which is like threatening. So what's the local news leading with every night? You guessed it! let's stir up some panic! Unfortunately, I'm of the opinion that this mess is just getting started and may drag out for a year or more. We live in a mobile society, people travel all over the world every day. This stuff is spreading fast. The government can try to issue travel bans or whatever, But that horse is already way out of the barn.

They're all shooting 2" snubbies. Look to be Colt Detective Specials. I'd think regular officers would be issued 4" revolvers.
