  1. For those of you who may not have noticed, Armslist.com is now a members only site. The cost is $3.99 per month. You can view ads for free, but to contact sellers or post new ads you must be a paid member. This really pisses me off. I've used Armslist for years and gotten some good deals on it. In the Memphis area its about the only place to find good used guns at decent prices. IDK, but if I find something I really want, I guess I could sign up for one month and make the deal. But then I wonder, can I quit and wait until the next time? Or am I stuck with it? I think Armslist just committed suicide.
  2. I don't know if they still do it, but at one time MSSA did allow private instructors to use their ranges for the shooting portion of the class. They have classrooms available, but I have no idea as to their use. You might check with them to see what the requirements may be.
  3. I've been keeping an eye on Shelby County. For a while there active cases were dropping daily and about a month ago it was down to around 1300. But its started to rise again just as predicted. Current stats: Active cases: 2217 Deaths: 556
  4. I don't think I'll be going to any gunshows for a while. Prices are high, inventory is low. I'm thinking crowds will be big because so many people are desperate for ammo and such. And then, Covid is still with us. I'll just pass for the time being.

    6.8mm

No experience with it myself. However, back around the turn of the century I took a class from a retired Socom Warrant Officer and a bunch of other retied Socom guys. During just general conversation the M-16 came up and he mentioned that his former unit had field tested the 6.8 in actual combat. He loved it! Said it was far superior to the 5.56. But for some reason the Army just never pursued it any further at that time.
  6. Last I heard TBI was running a skeleton crew for background checks due to Covid. As such, denials are taking much longer to process. Just another 2020 thing.
  7. Valid point. 15-20 years ago CTD was a pretty good company. It was the place to go for parts or accessories for many of the popular mil-surp guns available back then. Things like original slings, magazine, holsters, cleaning kits, etc and they actually were dirt cheap. They had a lot of good stuff. But somewhere back about the time the first panic hit they discovered price gouging and ain't been the same since. What really killed 'em for me was several years ago I was going to order three small items from them. It turned out that they would be coming from three separate warehouses and they wanted separate shipping for each item. The shipping was more than the cost of the items. Aside from the price gouging, they will also burn you bad on their outrageous shipping charges.
  8. CTD has been discussed many times before. The conclusion is always the same. They suck!
  9. Here ya go! I found some 180gr loads in .38 Special at M.D. Smith .38 Special Loads
  10. I would be very careful here. 12.0 grs of 2400 with a 158gr bullet is a common load for the old S&W 38/44 Heavy Duty which is an N-frame (large frame) revolver and bordering on full house .357 loads. Probably be ok in Leroy's Ruger, but is not recommended for medium frame DA revolvers.
  11. I've dealt with a bunch of bad screws in my career, but Bubba you got a real mess there. Try this, get a small punch, go to the outside edge of the screw head and gently try to tap the head counter clockwise. Go easy and be very patient. If you can get it to start turning, you should be able to work it on out. Putting a bit of heat on it should also help. A hair drier should be enough. I'm guessing that there's some sort of loctite there and that's why they stripped in the first place. BTW: just general info. Never use anything but PURPLE loctite on guns. Its made specifically for small screws. Even the common blue is too much for these.
  12. Yeah, I remember when SKSs were dirt cheap. My late best friend had a thing for cheap commie guns. His goal was to have a SKS from every factory that made them. When he passed he had over a dozen. According to his records I think the most he ever paid for one was about $125 and it was factory fresh still covered in cosmoline.
  13. I think the M1 Carbine is a much better home defense rifle than an AR. You have ballistics better than the .357 Magnum in a small, light, easy to use package. No real worries about over penetration and the muzzle blast is quite tame for a rifle. The Zombie Rifle was built just for that purpose. Its my primary home defense rifle.
  14. Years ago when I was working on heavy trucks, one of the most common diesel engines was the old Cummins NT 855 series. The difference between full and low on the dipstick was 6 quarts. On any of these engines, if you filled it up to the full mark, within just a day or two it would throw out three quarts. But then it would settle down and not use any more. We just got to the point where half way between low and full was accepted as normal and you didn't add any.
  15. The old Carbine can dress up pretty tacti-cool. This here is my Zombie Rifle.
  16. Well I guess it is in a way. But here and on other forums we share common interests and after a while you kinda get to know folks. Its not like laying your life out to complete strangers. Besides, I'm careful about what I choose to post.
  17. The Rock-Ola is one of the rarer M1 Carbines. Very collectible and desirable. If you want one, be prepared to spend big money. Two to three grand at least. If what you want is a Ranch Rifle, you might want to consider the original there as well. Nothing wrong with a good old lever action.
  18. I've never understood the compulsion to post details of your private life for millions of people you don't know. Likewise, I couldn't care less about what some total stranger does or thinks. I'm a big believer in privacy and minding my own business.
  19. I love the M1 Carbine and have two originals. An Inland and a Standard products. I really don't know much about the current reproductions. I'd trust Fulton Armory just on their name and reputation. However, they're very expensive. Almost twice the price of an original. I've never seen a current New Inland or Auto Ordnance, so I can't say as to them. However, I can say avoid the old Universal and Iver Johnson copies. They were very hit and miss. Mostly miss as most were unreliable and not all parts interchange with originals. From what I've seen of the prices, you can pretty much buy an original for about the same money as current copies or probably less if you're patient and shop around. That's what I recommend.
  20. Looks like something that could be real handy. I ordered one.
