USPS is currently in the middle of a perfect storm. Covid-19, still backed up from the holidays and an idiot Postmaster General appointed by Trump last summer. As soon as Louis DeJoy took office, he immediately instituted "cost cutting measures" that have done nothing but damage USPS. He stopped all overtime, removed many sorting machines and public mail boxes. He changed many work policies. the biggest being that any mail still in the sorting room at the end of the day was to be left until the next day. As a result, the back log has built up something terrible. Many people believe Trump appointed DeJoy for the sole purpose of wrecking the USPS before the election and mail in voting. Not to mention that DeJoy owns millions in stock from other carriers that are the direct competition to USPS. If Biden does nothing else, I hope he fires this azzhole. Despite all of that, USPS is still and always has been the highest rated government agency in customer satisfaction. They move millions of pieces of mail every single day. And most of it goes off without a hitch.

While not on your list, for many years my pet load in .357 with a 158gr LSWC has been 6.0grs of W231. Its a nice mid-range load that clocks right at 1000 fps out of my guns. Its pleasant to shoot and extremely accurate.

I'm a long time member of TFA. Got my renewal notice in the mail today. Think I might send them a little extra too. I got a feeling they're gonna need it. I'm also a long time member of NRA, GOA and 2AF. We're gonna need 'em all in the coming days.

I never have understood the whole social media thing. Aside from a couple of gun forums like this one, I don't do social media at all. I don't face. twit, or anything else. What info I do put on the internet about myself I'm very selective about. It seems that the people in this country, especially the young folks, are so insecure about themselves that they feel the need to put their entire life on the internet and seek validation from total strangers. How sad is that? And what does it say about the state of our nation? I prefer to be the Gray Man. Just easing through life un-noticed, minding my own business and attracting very little attention at all. I'm much happier that way.

Memphis officer charged with murder while on duty
Grayfox54 replied to White Goodman's topic in General Chat
Local news say the murder was over a woman. Seems the victim was dating the officer's ex and he wasn't happy about it. MPD's reputation isn't that good. They do have some excellent officers, especially the older guys in the upper ranks. However, many of the average patrol officers are morons. Due to their own hiring policies, MPD has had to lower their standards quite a bit just to get recruits. Not sure if its still true, but at one point some years ago you could be hired with a non-violent felony on your record. Memphis also has a problem with officers using them as a stepping stone. A guy gets hired by Memphis because the standards are low and MPD will hire just about anybody. MPD trains them and they work for a couple of years to get experience and then move on to another department with better pay, benefits and a much safer city. They never had any intention of making a career in Memphis. -
I'm a child of the 50s. I grew up on comic books and "B" sci-fi / monster movies. Still love that stuff! These last few years I've been having a ball with the Marvel movies. The DC flicks aren't bad, but they take themselves way to seriously. I remember very well seeing the first Star Wars movies/trilogy in the theaters and what a thrill it was. This was way cool in those days. The first trilogy was great. The second was so-so and the third, meh. But at least it wrapped up the story. Rogue One wasn't bad. But as already mentioned, Solo just sucked. I don't have Disney, so as much as I'd like to see it, no Mandalorian for me. Honestly, while I do like Star Wars, I'm really a Star Trek guy.

Pistol magazine loader - feedback ?
Grayfox54 replied to docachna's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I love mine. I have a Para Ordnance P-14 and honestly, if it wasn't for the UpLula, I'd never be able to load a full magazine. The spring is just too strong. -
Thanks guys, I'll check 'em out. We do have News Nation here. I pretty much ignored at as it was WGN out of Chicago. I just assumed it would be liberal. Yeah, never assume. Guess I'll check it out too.

I just checked the numbers for Shelby County/Memphis. Sadly we have reached yet another milestone. 6,977 active cases. That's up 898 from yesterday. The number of deaths has now reached 1003. Looks like the Christmas/New Years surge is now getting in full swing.

I walked out to the mail box a little while ago and SURPRISE! SURPRISE! There was a U.S. Treasury check for $600. With the first round I also got my check by mail, but it was a couple of months behind those with direct deposit. I sure wasn't expecting to get mine this soon. It seems that the government is becoming even faster and more efficient at giving away our tax money. I'm not sure if that's good or bad?

The Democrats have a whole laundry list of "progressive" changes they want to make. Gun control is on there somewhere, but I don't think its at the top of the list. I'm thinking they may try something soon, only to have it cause an uproar they don't want right now. Then they'll move on to other projects. Covid issues may work in our favor as that's the pressing problem right now. Hopefully we can hold them off for two years and make changes in our favor come the mid-term election.

Ok, the General politics forum is gone. Frankly I don't blame David one bit. But this ain't about that. So let's just not go there, OK? Unfortunately, that forum was my main source of non-bias and objective political news. I'm old and somewhat technically challenged. Can somebody point me to one or two good places/forums on the internet where I can find honest, non-bias, non-liberal political news and info?

I tried it and hated it. The gun was constantly changing position and angle with every movement. A couple of times I got up and found the gun on my seat and I never even felt it come loose. I didn't use it for long.

I guessing that there's something special about this rifle/model/ year/ etc that only a serious Winchester collectors would know. Only reason I can think of to explain those bids.

Well a lot of the competition gear has been made of plastic for some time now. Including revolver gear. Yeah, I know, the thought of a wheelgun in anything other than quality leather irritates me too. But that's just how it is. The only revolver competition I ever shot was some IDPA in the revolver class. There you use ordinary carry gear. So that was fine with me as I use leather. But we have to face the fact that the times, they are a changin'. Damn near everything is plastic now, including the guns. You can still find good revolver gear out there. You just have to look a little harder. Jim, I'm a big fan of the .44 Special cartridge and the S&W revolvers made to shoot it. I expect to see pics of that Model 21 when you get it.

A simple farm boy drafted into WW II. Trained as a machine gunner with the heavy weapons platoon. He never talked much about the war. What little I know was pieced together from the rare comments he made over many years. He fought in Sicily and Italy. He landed on Omaha beach with the 29th Infantry Division on D Day. Somewhere about half way across France, he and his machine gun were defending a hill against a German attack. Unable to get past him, the Germans called in an artillery strike. He was damned near blown to pieces. They never thought he'd make it to the aid station, much less home. But he survived. After a year and a half at an Army hospital in Waco, Texas. He finally went home. The highest rank he ever actually achieved was private First Class. At the time he was hit, he was the acting Platoon Sergeant. His injuries caused him problems for years after. Eventually he lost the lower part of his right leg just below the knee some 20 years later. He never complained nor was he bitter about the war and what it had done to him. He was proud to have done his duty. He was my Father.

In all the vastness of the Universe, to think that we are the only intelligent (?) life is the ultimate in human arrogance. Have other sentient species developed space travel to the point where they can visit here? I don't know. I kinda hope they are that much more advanced than we are. But then again, if they are intelligent, why would they want to speak to this bunch of idiots? I believe Earth is kinda like the Detroit of the galaxy. Everybody knows where it is, its just that nobody wants to come here unless they absolutely have to.
