The real impact of this disease isn't physical, its economic. People are told not to go to work, others are afraid to go anyplace that could be crowded. Companies are losing productivity. Stores have difficulty restocking needed goods. There is a manpower shortage. People are neither making or spending money. They're just sitting at home, wringing their hands and waiting for this to blow over. Getting sick is just the tip of this iceberg.

Ok, this is a serious disease and does need to be taken as such. It is spreading rapidly and needs to be kept a close eye on. However, I do also believe that MSM is over blowing the situation, spreading false information and inciting unneeded panic, solely for their own purposes. Ya know, never let a good crisis go to waste. I am not going to panic. I'm 65 years old and I do have COPD. Yeah, right in the prime group to die from this thing. I call BS! I might get it and then I might not. Who knows? I sure don't. I'll take reasonable precautions such as washing my hands and such. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna let it control my life. There is currently ONE confirmed case in Memphis. A female who recently traveled outside of the state, but not outside of the U.S. She is quarantined at Baptist Hospital and reportedly doing well. There is also ONE man who was in direct contact with this woman who is voluntarily on home quarantine. Reports say he is showing no symptoms. Ok, so that's ONE confirmed case and ONE maybe. Neither of which is like threatening. So what's the local news leading with every night? You guessed it! let's stir up some panic! Unfortunately, I'm of the opinion that this mess is just getting started and may drag out for a year or more. We live in a mobile society, people travel all over the world every day. This stuff is spreading fast. The government can try to issue travel bans or whatever, But that horse is already way out of the barn.

They're all shooting 2" snubbies. Look to be Colt Detective Specials. I'd think regular officers would be issued 4" revolvers.

Tn allowing residents to carry guns without permits new bill
Grayfox54 replied to ted's topic in General Chat
I have my doubts about this bill too. As others have pointed out, it falls way short. But, if this is all we can get, so be it. I will contact my Senator and Representative and push for to amend this into true Constitutional Carry. I strongly suggest you do too. -
Handgun Carry Permit Statistics TN
Grayfox54 replied to RED333's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Believe me, in Shelby County we need 'em. -
Many years ago as a much younger man, I went the opposite way. I traded a boat for some nice guns. I definately got the better end of that deal.

The troubling case of Roosevelt Twyne
Grayfox54 replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Idiot cops, idiot laws in an idiot state. I find this to be outrageous, yet it doesn't surprise me at all. I believe that the charges will get dropped once the DA realizes how bad these cops screwed up and the public outcry it's caused. I also predict that Mr. Twyne will soon be coming into a very large settlement. -
I was at a gun show today and after reading Mac's comments I made a point of looking at a new Glock 44. Holy Cow! Mac was right, it feels like a toy! I'll bet a full 9mm magazine by it self would outweigh that entire gun. It just looks cheap too. Of course, being a Glock, it has the ergonomics of a 2X4. I'm not a Glock guy, so it doesn't really matter to me. But I am surprised that a well know company would produce such a thing.

Looks pretty good. The two inch round butt is probably the most popular configuration. While those grips aren't original, they are a very popular add on. No box, papers or tools? I'd guesstamate that one in the $400-450 range. Maybe $500 to the right buyer.

So this applies only to legal Tennessee residents? Does that mean our huge illegal population won't be allowed to carry?
-
I did a little research, it appears that you have a 55A Target Model. However, the grips on yours seem to be correct. Are they broken? They look good from this side.

Ha! Ha! Well ok then. I haven't seen one yet and frankly not interested. But there have been reported problems with those. I mean really, a .22 cracking slides? Seriously, check into a .32 or even a .25. And don't rule out revolvers. They do work. I told the story many times about my wife's arthritis limiting her choices. She absolutely loved her S&W Model 30 in .32 Long. Didn't bother her to shoot it one bit. She shot it very well too. The Beretta 81 Moped listed would be an excellent choice. Darn shame you're plumb at the other end of the state. I have several that I'd be happy to let you try. You ever get over to the west end? HEY! Anybody on the east side got something Mac's wife could try out?

Try some of the auction sites. Gunbroker or e-bay have quite a few listed. But you need to know the model name or number. You may have to be patient and wait, but these things do pop up from time to time. BTW: I like it!

All Model 37s were aluminum alloy frames. S&W has never made any guns out of magnesium. If, by some odd chance, it is one of the very early alloy cylinders, I strongly suggest you don't shoot it. They went to a steel cylinder for a reason. however, that would add considerably to its value and collectability. Value will depend on a lot of factors. Barrel length, round or square butt, finish, box and papers? of course condition is everything. Pictures would be most helpful. Best I can say is about $250-300 on the bottom to around $600 for a really nice one.

Once again, let me state for the record that I do want this law to pass. I do think its a step in the right direction. My concern is not about "wild west" or "blood in the streets" scenarios. My concern is about untrained idiots walking around with guns. We all know that one guy who is an accident just waiting to happen. Personally I wouldn't care to be in line at the grocery store behind Grandma who's fumbling around in her purse totally unaware that her lipstick or ink pen has gotten stuck in the trigger guard of her gun. Or the moron who just can't stop fondling the gun in his pocket. Negligent discharges worry me a lot more than bad guys. You can't fix stupid and the large cities are drowning in it.

Try to find something in .32 caliber for her to try. Very light recoil and considerably better than a .22. My real concern with a .22 is that it is a rim fire. Not the most consistent ignition system and current production .22 ammo is getting worse all the time. Way more misfires than there used to be. For that matter, you might try a little .25acp pistol. It is a center fire, much more reliable and she's probably like the small size for a purse gun. Don't dismiss the idea. Any gun is better than no gun.

Jimenez Arms Declares Bankruptcy in Wake of Lawsuit
Grayfox54 replied to Ronald_55's topic in General Chat
Hey, poor people are entitled to defend themselves too. Not everybody can afford a quality pistol. That's what keeps Hi-Point in business. Odds are they'll reorganize and maybe re-open under another name. But they'll still be around. I guess there's something to this lawsuit that we don't know. I don't see how a guy selling guns illegally makes the gun manufacturer liable? -
If she will shoot it and carry it, then that's the gun for her. I would suggest you try something in .32 caliber. Either a .32acp pistol or one of the revolvers in .32 Long, H&R mag or ,327 Federal. My wife absolutely loved her S&W Model 30 in .32 Long. IDK about the Glock. I've seen several reports of slides cracking and other problems. However, there are lots of small, easy to carry .22s out there. Just let her pick what she likes.

That whole Waco thing was a disaster from the get go. The local Sheriff was on good terms with Koresh and could have simply knocked on the door. It was also a well known fact that Koresh took a daily jog, same time, every day, on the local road. He could have very easily been picked up then without incident. Nope, the Feds wanted a show. They got one in spades. And they were the villains.

For the record. I hope it does pass. I support any law that confirms our Constitutional rights. However, you guys who live in the boonies and smaller towns can't even fathom the level of irresponsibility, incompetence, ignorance and downright stupidity that is Memphis. I suspect Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville are the same. When the law passes, and I'm sure it will, the learning curve for idiots is gonna be both steep and deadly. I fear a lot of mistakes will be made. Innocent people may die. And the antis will most assuredly be watching. I truly do hope that my fellow Tennesseans will prove my lack of faith to be wrong. Time will tell.

On the local Channel 3 (CBS) TV news they ran video of a press conference by the Memphis Police Chief where he stressed what a bad idea this is. A few pics of Gov. Lee, but no audio or video of him explaining why he backed it. Think they might be just a bit bias? If this does pass, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if gun related crimes and accidental shootings went up in Memphis. After all, that city is ground zero for stupid in this state.

Read a story on the internet out of Milwaukee. The usual he was a good man and fine neighbor stuff. But what caught my attention is that they went out of their way to mention "He liked to make guns from mail order parts." I wonder where they're trying to go with that? They also alluded to him being paranoid as he told neighbors that company "spies" were watching him after he made an on the job injury claim.

I got a 2nd e-mail from TFA just a little while ago telling all about this. While it all sounds good, the actual bill isn't available to read yet. TFA warns that there could be a devil in the details. I am pleased with penalizing criminals more harshly. That really does need to be done. Politicians say a lot of things. But that don't necessarily make it so. Its got to go through the legislature first. Then they might amend it to death. Honestly, I'm unsure about Constitutional Carry. While I do fully support our Constitution and love any law that supports our rights. I'm also very aware that there are a great many really stupid people out there that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun.
