Safe lock digital changed to mechanical
Grayfox54 replied to Swang's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've never liked electronic locks. Anything electronic can fail much easier than plain old mechanical. Although highly unlikely, just in case that EMP does ever hit, you'd be locked out of your safe. You'll be needing what's in there. There's an old saying that I fully believe in. "Never trust you life to anything that requires a battery". -
Sig lands Army contract to make rifle ammo
Grayfox54 replied to White Goodman's topic in General Chat
I never knew Sig had an ammo plant in Arkansas. I just figured they had their name put on another maker's stuff. Learn something new every day. And WOW! A light machine gun in .338 Norma Magnum! Now that's some serious fire power. I like Sig. They make some excellent weapons. Good for them. -
The 38 Super is a semi-rimmed cartridge. The early guns did indeed headspace on that tiny rim. As a result, accuracy suffered. I believe it was Bar-Sto who finally figured out that headspacing on the case mouth like other semi-auto cartridges solved the accuracy problem. Just about everybody had fixed the headspacing problem by the late 80s. Except Colt. They were hard headed and didn't finally admit their mistake and fix the problem until the very late 90s. I think its safe to say that any 38 Super built in the last 30 years headspaces on the case mouth.

Think of it as a 9mm on steroids. 130gr .356 dia. FMJ bullet @ 1200-1300 fps. I'm a fan of the 38 Super and currently own 4 of them. Colt invented it in 1929 as a better option against steel auto bodies and early bulletproof vests. It became extremely popular in Latin American countries where owning guns in military calibers was forbidden. I believe it was in the 1960s that IPSC competitors discovered that in the 1911 the 38 Super could be pumped up to meet Major Power factor with less, recoil and faster follow up shots over the .45acp. Plus you can get a couple more of them in the gun. It became a serious cartridge in competitive shooting sports and still is. The .38 Super is an outstanding defensive cartridge. However its also always been kind of a niche cartridge. So most ammo makers only offer a few choices in this caliber. But excellent defensive ammo does exist. BTW: Major Power Factor ammo (1400-1500 fps) is readily available. Cost is a bit high, but if you reload, its no big deal. Can't absolutely swear to it, but I believe a 38 Super can easily be converted to a 9mm with a simple barrel swap. But I wouldn't do it. The .38 Super is the superior round.

US Strike Kills Top Iranian Terror Mastermind Qassem Soleimani

I had to look this guy up. Brian Mast: veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan. Now a Republican Representative from Florida. Speaks out against cowardly leadership in Washington. I LIKE THIS GUY! -
A guy on the S&W forum got one of the new Pythons. His has problems too. The rear sight has too much play and the cylinder release is hard, sticky and sometimes doesn't work. Its on its way back to the factory. Brand new anything usually has some teething pains. But a Python should be good out of the box every time. I'm still waiting for a blue one. Maybe they'll have the bugs out by then.

I use Ammoseek.com. Not only can you compare prices, but they rate shipping costs as well.

Report: Well this one was a total bust. Some new promoter, The Cloe Group. They called it a Gun-Con. But apparently didn't bother to advertise much. Only one of the small Fairground buildings was used and it wasn't completely full. Normally shows here take both buildings. The crowd was small. At times there were more vendors in the building than customers. Nobody was selling much at all. I seriously doubt most dealers with more than just a couple of tables even managed to cover their rent. I only sold a few small items. My partner sold one .22 rifle. After figuring gas and expenses, my total profit was $5. I'm not going back tomorrow. The usual promoter for Dyersburg is Grand American. They normally use both buildings. While not a great show, its generally decent. So if you hear about a gun show, check the promoter. If its The Cloe Group or they refer to it as a "Gun-Con", don't waste your time. On the bright side, it did get me outta the house on a rainy Saturday and I had a good visit with my friend who I don't see much.

I was just watching the news. 63 Canadians were on that flight and they were interviewing PM Trudeau. One of the reporters actually asked him if he blames the U.S. for the crash. Really? That leaves little doubt where MSM stands. BTW: Trudeau did not answer the question. Just the usual "full investigation" response. -
I'm gonna be sharing a table with a friend at the Dyersburg Gun Show on Saturday. Not sure about Sunday as we'll have to see how Saturday goes. If you're going, it would be nice to meet some of you fine folks in person. Not sure of our table location yet. Just look for a couple of old guys with a few nice guns and a whole lot of junk. I've got gray hair, a mustache and will be wearing a camo baseball cap. I'm going to print out a small TGO Logo to put somewhere on the table.

If shouldering a brace was illegal, there would be a whole bunch of folks on YouTube in jail.

CBOW: just out of curiosity, what's the intended purpose? Carry, home defense, just want one? And why the insistence on a concealed hammer? I've carried many snubbies with spur hammers for years and never had a problem. edit to add: Why not an ultra-lite? They aren't that bad with proper ammo. Whisper: Model 12s are indeed nice to carry and good shooters. However, they're now scarce and expensive. Plus they always had on-going problems with the alloy frame cracking where the barrel screwed in. I had one for several years, but was afraid to shoot it for fear of the dreaded crack. I just gave up and sold it.
-
You don't want a small frame .357. Trust me on this. I have a S&W 642 that I carry quite often. Its a lightweight J-frame with a concealed hammer and fits your criteria except for being a lightweight. It can be stout with +Ps, but is still very manageable. I'm also quite fond of the 2 or 2.5" S&W K-frame (medium) revolvers and have several of those. Lots of models to choose from, but most do have spur hammers. But they can be bobbed. These will no doubt be the the most accurate and easiest to shoot. Even in .357 Magnum. But they are a bit on the large size. However, my all time favorite snubby is the old Colt Detective Special. Only a little bigger but it gives you six shots and is much easier to shoot well. The new Colt Cobra is basically a new version of this fine old revolver. You can get the Night Cobra with a black finish and it comes with a bobbed hammer.

I'm sure war is the last thing anyone here wants. However, these two bit dictators in 3rd world cesspools need to learn that we ain't gonna take any of their crap. If they hurt or even try to hurt American citizens anywhere in the world, We will pay it back in spades. Or at least we should. -
I've never had any real desire for one of those expensive $2000-$3000 1911s. I won't deny that they are wonderful guns, But I can't shoot one of them any better than the much cheaper 1911s . So why spend the extra money? To me, the pretty looks or fancy brand name just don't justify the additional cost.

Perfect for Grandma to drop in her apron pocket.

That one was pure dumb luck. Just happened to be cruising Armlist a couple of years ago and stumbled across it. The guy had bought it years ago and only fired it a couple of times. Gun was LNIB with all the goodies. Price was $400 and I jumped all over it. The only problem was that it was imported in the late 90s so it came with two 10 round magazines. No biggie, I got lots of Hi-Power mags. Of the three, this one is my favorite. If I were to start carrying a Hi-Power, this would be the one.
-
Well add me in as a true fan of the Hi-Power. The Brownings and FNs are the originals. But like the 1911, there are plenty of excellent clones out there for much less money. That Tisas is a nice looking pistol. But copies made by FEG, FM Argentina, Kareem and more are know to be excellent guns. Honestly, I don't believe I've ever heard of anybody making a bad copy of the Hi-Power. Most can be had at around $300-350. I have three myself. Top: Browning MK III Center: FEG Bottom: FM Detective Model

Simple physics. Big slow bullet out of a bigger, heavier gun has less recoil than a small fast bullet out of a much smaller, lighter gun. I've shot some pocket size .380s that down right hurt.

Well from what I've read this guy makes Hitler look like a choir boy. He needed killin'. Its been said that he was in the process of setting up several attacks and that's the reason he was killed. My question is did they get him soon enough or are his plans already in motion and he isn't needed anymore? I've also seen some social media posts from ex-Iranian citizens who say that they're happier he's dead than we are. Seems he was the most feared terrorist in his own country. Oh well, Iran will pitch a fit, makes threats and shake their fists. But, I do believe they will think long and hard before trying any retaliation. If they do try something, you can bet that Donald will have our boys knock 'em on their butts again. -
xtriggerman makes an excellent point. If you want to carry a SA pistol and insist that it be a 9mm. you just can't do any better than a Hi-Power.
-
I hope your not considering this as a profession. My younger son was an armed security guard for a couple of years after he came home from Iraq. The hours suck, the pay sucks, you get absolutely no respect from anybody and the whole world looks down on just another stupid rent-a-cop. Only the few folks at the very top of the company make a decent living at it. You're not a cop. You have no real authority, can't arrest anybody, yet you're expected to walk right into trouble. Not to mention you're expected to put your life on the line protecting somebody else's stuff. Its a crappy job.

I've never made a secret of the fact that my first loves in handguns have always been S&W revolvers and 1911s. However, in the category of DA/SA semi-autos, my preference runs to Sig Sauer. More specifically, the older all metal Sigs preferably made in Germany. Honestly, the newer plastic Sigs do nothing for me and I have no interest in them. I currently own four. As you can see, I have a liking for the Hogue smooth wooden grips. I'm also a big fan of the Short Reset Trigger kit (SRT) and all my guns have them. P220: .45 acp made in Germany 1996 P226: 9mm made in W. Germany 1990 P228: 9mm made in W. Germany 1994 P239: 9mm made in USA 2009 I actually traded my way into the P239. Wasn't sure if I was gonna keep it. But all it took was one trip to the range to convince me that its a keeper. I also have a .22LR conversion kit for the P226 and its a hoot! I love it! Any other Sig Sauer fans here? Post your pics!

They put me on Xarelto. Works just as good, but no regular testing. I already take a handful of pills everyday. I guess one more won't matter.

This has been my primary carry for about 25 years now. For me at least, its the perfect carry gun. Its a lightly modified 1959 Colt Commander in .45acp. At that time there was no Combat Commanders, so all Commanders were lightweights. I bought it used at a gun show some 30 years or more ago. Frankly, it was a mess. I refinished it once myself, but was never truly happy with the results. So in 2010 I sent it back to Colt and had them refinish it. As you can see, 10 years of carry hasn't hurt it much. In recent years I've considered replacing it with a newer version. However my mods, although minor, do pretty much negate its collector value. Besides, its totally reliable, accurate and we're old friends now. On the question of wear and tear of everyday carry? I ask, how much is your life worth? As for holsters, I only use leather. I have no more use for a plastic holster than I do for a plastic gun. BTW: the leather gear in that picture is at least 20 years old and still in excellent shape. Its just broken in real good and very comfortable. Buy quality and it'll last. Honestly, I've never cared much for a 9mm 1911. Something just seems wrong about that. Almost blasphemy. If you're going to limit the number of rounds in the gun, make sure they'll do the job. Frankly, if you're going to carry a 9mm, there are hundreds of better choices with more capacity available. If you insist on a mid-bore 1911, I suggest to look hard at the original, the .38 Super.
