I understand... I would look at upping the powder charge a hair more if ya still have tumblin problems while keepin a close watch on the swelling of the base of the spent rounds...   I would recommend takin a dial or digital caliper and measurin the diameter of a freshly resized round right above the extractor groove and noting the reading... I would measure my spent reload hulls at the same place after shootin them and watch for signs of expansion there...   When i saw 0.002 or more expansion in the fired cases; i would quit goin up and back the load down a couple of tenths of a grain...   The limit is generally taken at .002; and some even say .0015; but ya need a real tenth reading micrometer to read those kinds of numbers... A regular $25.00 dial or digital caliper will read to a thousandth (0.001) pretty easily...   Now, havin said all that; some folks simply aint comfortable with goin above published reloading data (...and some of 'em may well speak up about this method...); and i understand that... The fact is that the ballistic guys determine the upper limits of lots of reloads by measurin the case head expansion many times; especially in rifles...   Hope this helps... leroy

Sevastopol was traditionally the southern deep water port for the russian navy... There are lots of ethnic russians livin there... The real loosers in this will be the poor Ukrainians...   I hate ta see it happen; but there is nothin anybody can do, no matter who is in charge here in the states... Just got a left handed dangler sheath in coyote from AZWELKE for a 4... It looks great and works just like ya think it should... The only thing i would change is i would use chicago screws on about the top two rivets; but that's a "...minor in the majors..." .  His workmanship is great... It took about 4 weeks for him to get my sheath done....   leroy

  Interestin.... I would have guessed (...as ya could probably tell...) that ya might have been usin lead bullets... Since ya upped the powder charge and the tumblin seems to have calmed down; my guess is that it's low velocity causing the tumble... Upping the charge ups the velocity... I dont have a glock 21 (...but i would like to--- cant find a "lovingly cared for, lightly used one"--everybody likes them...); but we used to shoot the old Hornady 230 grain jacketed flat nose (...truncated cone...) bullets over 6.5 grains of unique and they shoot very well...   We also used 5.2 grains of Tightgroup with Remington gold dot 230's with great results... All out of a 5 inch government model 1911 and a light weight commander (...4.25 inch barrel...)... I would tend to raise the powder charge on these bullets with the glock polygonal barrel... My guess is that the faster they go; the better they shoot...   Quick update:   Just did a bit of readin about VV N310; looks to be a pretty fast powder... Faster than Bullseye and WW 321 (...or Titegroup....)...  I also took a look at the handloads.com site (...i like it, good data...); most of the VV N310 loads are for lead bullets; and are in the 4.0 or so grain charge range... There wuz one load for 230 grain jacketed bullets listed at 4.1 grains... All that bein said; i would look at using a powder that is a bit slower.... I really like Titegroup; and lots of target pistol guys like it too...   Hope this helps... leroy

Ishel.... It's been my experience that with military brass (...both 223 and 308...) that if the brass has been shot out of full auto guns (...and lots of it has been...); the brass is stretched a bit as to length and it may be a tad swelled at the base; but it's nothin that cant be fixed by first resizing the brass completely and trimming it after re-size... We've done lots of 308 that way...   It's been my experience that military brass is good stuff; but you need to just go ahead and resize it (...we completely resized it and ran it thru a case gage...); then trim it to size and neck ream it as necessary; as sometimes the case mouth gets a bit thick... It will work just fine; but you cant take any shortcuts like not re-sizing it or not checking for trim to length... If i wuz shootin it in a semi-auto i would use a small base re-sizer to resize to minimum chamber size...   We always shot ours thru bolt guns; but the M1a guys always prepped their brass the same way...   Hope this helps... leroy

A few more questions: 1... Have ya measured the bullets with a caliper to see what size they are..? What is the diameter..? 2... Have ya looked at the barrel to see if it is leaded to the point that ya can see lead in the grooves...? 3... What kind of pistol; barrel length...?   Reasons for the questions... 45ACP's historically have shallow grooves and sometimes dont like cast bullets... Cast bullets tend to like deep grooves... Sometimes the lead bullets (...especially soft ones...) will skid on the lands and not spin as they should during firing.... If ya see a lot of lead, that is an indication of skidding....   Secondly; the bullets have to be oversized to the grooves for the lands to grab the bullet and start it spinning (...engaging the grooves of the rifling...)...  If the bullet is a bit undersized, it will skid over the top of the lands and not take to the grooves... This is the cause for the tumbling and key-holing; as the bullet is not spinning enough to stabilize itself...   leroy

Try 5.0 grains of Unique and your DEWCS.... The problem with 'em is that they wont shoot very far before tumbling... At close range they are very powerful... More stable at long range... Same hole cutting as a full wadcutter....   PS-- Our load for j frame smiths for plus p is 5.3 grains of unique and anybody's 158 hard cast swc... About 900 fps out of a 2 inch model 36 barrel... My guess is 1000 fps out of a four incher...   Hope this helps...   leroy

It's one (...or several of...) three things.... Primers not seated fully... I always check 'em and seat with a hand seater to fix this problem; but ive got plenty of time to do this sort of thing... Crimp (...like dolomite says...) too tight... I like his advice about just flaring the case enough to get the bullet started seating; and no crimp... We always checked 'em the "poor boy" way by takin the barrel out and using it for a case gage... If the loaded round dropped down in the barrel passed the hood it wuz crimped too much (...i like the "no crimp" thing if ya can do it; or with the hard kickers; use just about a .001 to .002 crimp with a taper crimp die--- measure with a dial caliper...)... Three; the firing pin channel and pin is dirty and dragging... Fix by cleanin it up.... My bet is primers or crimp....   hope this helps a bit... leroy

Yeah... I think that is exactly what it means... Politicians cant rule without the "consent of the governed" even in Connecticut...   I think (...that means i dont know; i think...) they are; but they are evidently pretty high handed and overbearing up there...  This kind of door kickin and house-to-house searchin has never happened in a wholesale manner since post-civil war reconstruction... They aint american (...we buy the AW protected batteries...)... They are the oldest and best built of the rechargable lot... I wont use anything but protected batteries; and will not use more than one protected battery in series... The protection circuits get "confused" when they are in series.... We've used a bunch of 'em over the years with good results... If ya have need for a real "high powered" light; i would recommend the AA types with Sanyo Enloops... I've got a couple of 'em.... Both "old" citoris (...pre-removable choke...)... One is a 30 inch 12 ga; the other is a 24 inch 28 gage... Ya simply cant beat them for build quality, handling (...if they fit ya...) and longivity.... Buy one (...even a humble one...) and ya will hand it down to your grand children....Look at Runco's post above.... 10K rounds of shotgun loads is 703 lb of lead down the tube (...based on 1 1/8 oz 12 gage loading...).... That's a helluva lot of shootin...That's why they are so great.... Find the one that fits ya and go from there....   leroy

There's lots of bandwidth and pontification in the last couple of pages of posts in this thread about the role of government (...both federal and state...) in chilling the effect of "workers right to organize"... The fact is that there was some; and it wuz mandated by none other than Uncle Sam himself...The fact is that Uncle Sam always comes down on the side of the union in organizing... The great god FDR enshrined that because he was, in fact, a socialist; as were lots of other Ivy League educated "intellectuals" in his day...That's why there is an NLRB and a genuine federal backing of the concept of "collective bargaining"....In any union organizing activity; the union always has the backing of the federal government....There aint a bigger bully than Uncle Sam when he takes the notion to be one.... More that that; he's armed... both with laws, courts, and the bayonet; and he is spendin your and my tax money to make it stick...   The "right to work" laws which are being vilified by some here were codified in the 50's as an attempt to control the rampant use of unions and thug tactics to coerce people to join the union... It allowed for the individual state governments to adopt a "right to work" provision in their individual state... Simply stated, the "right to work" thing allowed for union membership to be optional; not compulsory; just as it should be in a truly free society... The "closed shop" mandated compulsory union membership as a pre-requisite to work.... I dont know about you; but that dont sound too "American" and "free" ta me; but that's just me....   Some here on this forum and some of those on the outside who are apparatchiks of the UAW would have us believe that "Snozz Haslam" and Bob Corker are so powerful and so scary that they "coerced" the workers of VW not to join the union and likened their public pronouncements concerning the chilling effect of unionization at VW to "improper", even semi-criminal, abuse of public trust by an elected officials; both state and federal...   The fact is that both "Snozz" and Corker have their right to an opinion; and the public expression of those opinions regarding issues of public concern just like us fellow posters here do... More than that; in an unusually lucid moment for the both of them; i think they told the Gospel Truth...   The union never causes any business to get any bigger; it causes it to get smaller... Look at the american auto industry for proof....   The fact of the matter is that this country is built upon the proposition that everyone gets a say in the public forum regarding issues of public interest; and this certainly is one... Folks; ya cant have this First Amendment thing muzzled or slanted one way... You have to hear all sides of all arguments whether you agree with them or not; and that is exactly what happened here; its called "free speech" and the "arena of ideas".... a very important part of any free society....  If ya dont like public officials, ya can mount a campaign to vote them out; but it aint right (...nor is it legal...) to try to muzzle their opinions; just as it aint right to try to muzzle my or your opinions....   Remember this; the UAW had the blessing of the VW corporate management, the German IG Metall union, and the Federal Government on their side on this thing and they lost.... I think it is hilarious on the face of it; and on a more sober and intellectual note; it is a great testament to the insight and wisdom of those who are currently working at this facility...   The manufacturing unions are dead... They just aint been buried yet... Again; i say:"...good riddance...". Loosing the dammed manufacturing unions will make this country a better place...   leroy

Didnt vote.... My favorite aint there.... That bein said; im a big Olight fan... They make a great product at a fair price.... I also like Fenix... I dont like Surefire as they are over-priced (...in my opinion...)... They are good lights; but idiotically priced... They have been livin off the gubmt military dole too long....   The fact is that the Taiwanese and the Chinese guys own the led light business...Ya simply cant beat them for quality or price...   For home built p60 drop ins i like a guy whose forum id is "Nailbender" on CandlePower Forums...He did a couple of red ones for me that are great...I put 'em in a "host" (...empty flashlite shell...) from these guys:  They handle a brand called "Deerelight" that is well-made and reasonably in-expensive.... They will sell "hosts" at a reasonable price; but ya may have to e-mail them for a quote... They are nice guys (...and gals....).   I've just ordered a AA Olight S15 and a bunch of AA Enloop rechargables from my buddies at Battery Junction ....   I got a flashlite habit as well as a gun and knife habit too....   leroy

  Windbaggery i say... They lost; but they cant afford to say they lost or that they will quit...They will quietly slink away or find a new way to intimidate the VW work force... My guess is that they will just slither away in the nite.... If the UAW cant win with VW's help; why would they think they could win without it...   I fully remember (...and some older folks here too, im sure....) when Chattanooga was an industry based city with union jobs.... Think Combustion Engineering, Continental Fabricators, Chattanooga Boiler and Tank, and others here... They are all gone now; and the jobs they provided are gone... Some of that is due to changes in the market, environmental regulations, ect, ect; but lots of it is due to the "global market"...   The 1950's idea of the union shop is dead now; along with the industries they helped to make non-competitive... It simply aint 1933 and most folks down here are smart enough not to buy into the "one big union" malarkey thing... Most folks are educated enough to understand that the manufacturing unions finish off the very hosts they seek to organize...   Read the comments from the folks who work at VW about the union vote and why they voted that way.... They fully understand what the UAW is and what it does... That's why the union wasn't voted in...    The UAW is dead... I think it's very interesting that the only branch of the 3 branches of gubmt that is acting like the adults in the room is the judicial branch... My guess is that things are so polarized that the federal judiciary knows everyone on both sides of every issue is watchin...
