  1. It's hard to believe that we are outbid for primers and the like. I sold old Wolf primes on GB for $200.00 per M. I could not sell those small rifle magnums for $15.00 per M before the Pandemic.
  2. I cannot understand why S&B and PPU primers and the like have not shown up here in any numbers. We are getting some Shooters World Powders. My solution is to shoot less. I can always shoot my muzzleloaders. There's plenty #11's and musket caps in my outbuilding.
  3. I had gotten a SCCY Cpx2 in a trade. A quick inspection showed clever gun with decent finish. The gun did not work. I called the company. I found there had been two upgrade since my gun was made. Got the gun updated. I have fired a hundred handloaded rounds made up with Lyman 356402 cast bullets. The last 46 rounds were PC'ed +15 rounds of Hornady 147 gr. defense loads. I had two malfunctions with the reloaded ammo. Right, these guns do not digest high pressure loads very well. For a small gun his SCCY will do very well for me. I'm going to stick with factory hollow points for carry.
  4. I have had my 721 in 300 H&H for many years. It's set up with a Lyman 48 aperture sight. The rifle came with boxes of brass. I agree on the performance. It's similar to my 300 WSM. Reloading is where it's at for me. Reloading is the way to step around being exploited on cost of factory cartridges.
  5. I'd suggest looking at Accurate #9 also. The Shooter's World Heavy Pistol is very similar. Also, Alliant Power Pistol has worked for me in 357 Magnum. Accurate #5 is worth a look. It's all in what you want in a load. Mid-range target is one thing and high end full loads is another for me.
  6. Hope for all of us this is a done deal. Possibly the change in the domestic abuse laws brought on CYA in the ranks of the TBI. Somebody or something put further review of records into motion.
  7. I'm not so sure.Thinking all this hassle came accidentally too much of a stretch. My feeling that these searches came on or after the 4473 included domestic abuse. This thing kicked in between gun purchases. I had to wait thirty days on two purchases. We all got hit with this thing. What we had to deal with this on or about the same time. Remember, it was necessary for me to deal with specific issues. That was domestic abuse. The request for records came before the Sutherland Springs, Texas church shooting. It was not domestic abuse. Sorry, I cannot go with this stuff coming randomly. All this may have had to do with how well court records were kept. My event went back to 1971. Knoxville court records appear to be in chaos. I tried to resolve this but the person I talked to made Barney Fife look like John Wick. I has bought many guns in the time since the background check came in. I also had an FFL in the past. Also, during this time I got a carry permit. No check like this..
  8. If the sized case is OK something must have gone haywire after that. First place to look is for a buckled shoulder, Start with the simplest event that could cause the malfunction. Wonder what would happen if a bullet was pulled for another try in the chamber?
  9. The extra checks involved waits and applications to FBI etc. Firearms and permits had been gotten with the same history. All of a sudden there is a problem. That was the new search. All this stuff came out of nowhere.
  10. I wonder who initiated the extra background checks. I thought that records were not to be retained. Somebody or something put this business into motion. Also, if a domestic abuser be caught on this background check were they prosecuted. What was the purpose of these further checks. Was it to harass or what?
  11. I have been buying firearms from several dealers on a regular basis. Out of the blue came this deal where I could not pick up the firearm for thirty days. I had a simple assault case in 1971. I had to supply finger prints and court records to establish it was not domestic abuse. This was, maybe, ten years ago. My background checks to this day can be turned down or delayed, It was suggested that who may be doing the background checks that day (with sexist comments). To top it all, I had a brand newly renewed carry permit when all this crap started. If turned down, I appeal and the get the gun. Mainly, a pain in the butt. I do not want to complain due to concerns of having to through the dance all over again to get cleared.
  12. Trying to talk to some of these non-reloading people is a chore. You hear," I can buy it cheaper than I can reloaded it..." I ,have not heard this one lately. When the reloading topic comes eyes will glaze over.
  13. Might do well to look at a schematic for the missing parts. There are some entire locks floating around from guns that have been parted out. I've got an entire lock around here some place. Get an ad out for T/C parts. Some of those parts places are poster children for rip-offs.
  14. If that's a T/C Seneca don't let it go until you do some home work. The last one I saw went for $350.00. Mine on GB went for only $500.00. Point being don't let anybody low ball you on your guns. There are some nice pieces there.
  15. My choices are different but not necessarily better. I'd carry my 6" Smith 586. The load would be a 156gr lead hollow point running about 1300 fps. Being out and about a concealed carry does not add up to me. I make my own hollow points as a bullet caster. Handloading rules. YMMV
  16. Check the cost of ammo in those ranges that do not allow reloads. That is, check prices in normal times. Carter's in Chattanooga allows handloads. Nice place to do business. Added: If the indoor range does not allow lead bullets it would end my shooting there.
  17. I can't find anybody locally that can do good work on revolvers or self-loaders.
  18. How about a CZ 452 Trainer (terrible name) and a Savage BSEV 22. The Savage is the one with the Buck Rogers laminated stock. Both most excellent guns.
  19. In my experience: I have had a Bonanza while it was still a Bonanza. It is a quality press. I do not see all the excitement. All is well until it's time to change jaws moving from cartridge to cartridge. Mine needs four sets of jaws to cover all calibers. Make no mistake, the Co-Ax is a well made quality press with novel features. For general utility it's had to beat a Rock Chucker. I have a need to form cartridge cases. For this work the RC does very well. Sometimes, I come close to looking for a cheater bar for some of these cases. As an aside beware when you are told about making cases "...the only thing you have to do is..! Be fairly warned, there is a need to ask the guru how many has he done. My Co-Ax is not mounted now. It up for trade or sale at the rifle club shortly. Also, I have made up 550 tool heads for 308 and 30-06, A tool head is for .223 is in the works.
  20. I did have a nice Mauser sporter in 9x57. When we took the rifle down we found two sets of proofs. One was for 8mm and the other was for 9mm. When the rifle was rebored and re-rifled it was reproofed. The gun had a grove diameter that was larger than our 358. We made cartridges and found the rifle to be as good a hunting rifle as the day it was made. We necked up 8mm brass and used Hornady or Remington bullets.
  21. I'd also make sure there was no problems with the action. The 22-250 is pretty hot for that particular action. Problems could be set back or excessive headspace, Standard stuff on any built up rifle.
