  1. Garufa, oddly enough after reading Daves' post I got the sudden feeling that medical marijuana might have a purpose after all.   Don't take it wrong, Dave - I really feel for what you've been through and you have my sympathies.  Cynicism, no matter how well earned, is one of those reflecting pools that you can fall into and drown.  Have a little faith, baby.  It's a motherlovin' beautiful bridge.   Besides, the whole southern attitude towards Yankees and government is the only bright spot I see in the future of this country.
  2. Well, I was at sea for many years, and when I first joined TGO.  Had a slight medical issue a couple years ago - well, three years ago now - with my ticker not keeping good time.  That ended my seafaring.  Can't change my user name, though.   Being beached kinda sux.     OTOH, and not referring to the vast majority of my friends here on TGO, I sometimes feel (really feel) the expression 'sea of fools' is more than an expression.  I can even show it to you on a map - looks strangely like the electoral map.
  3. The needle points north because that's the direction of suckage.
  4. Gee, Dave, don't go away mad....
  5. Chris Matthews is a people? Huh.  Learn something new every day.
  6. Don't be too sure...  can't find the link now but there was another face-eater attack in Florida a few days ago.   Maybe not the textbook definition, but close enough for me.  The zed had to be mozambiqued.
  7. You're looking for rational decisions in a system that has nothing to do with the concept.
  8. You think that eventually, some court somewhere will look at the text of the second and decide that "shall not be infringed" means "not even if the govt really, really wants to."?
  9. Campfield is co-sponsoring in the senate.  Just got off the phone with my rep requesting they support this.
  10. With this administration, and with many of the three letter agency bureaucrats, pro-constitution is anti-government.   I will leave the corollaries to this position to you.
  11. 6 inches here and it is coming down pretty heavily.
  12. That wasn't justice, that was simply consequence.   Justice would have seen that creep hung and buried within a year of the guilty verdict.  I personally lean toward (in cases where there can be no doubt) marching them out of the courtroom to the back of the courthouse.
  13. Believe it or not, obsidian makes for one of the sharpest blades available.  Sharper than the finest straight razor.  I read once that obsidian scalpels were preferred for eye surgery before lasers came along.
  14. That woman really needs to seek professional help.  Her inability to handle life has to be a clinical issue.
  15. She wants to learn.  I see trouble ahead, though, when she becomes a 1911 fan instead of a glock girl.
  16. Hey, thanks.  No worries.  Had a blast.
  17. Last thing this post needs is another vote for Dewey coated rods, but they are the best.  Kept mine in a piece of PVC, capped on one end.  Little piece of elastic cord knotted through holes in the open end.  Kept the rod from getting banged up when out and about.  If you have to clean from the muzzle, get or make a bore guide.  If nothing else, a 12 ga. hull with the primer drilled out to the proper diameter fits several flash suppressors for a treat.   I prefer a jag over a loop, but everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion :)     Best patches available.   Try these, you'll never want to use anything else.   http://www.brownells.com/gun-cleaning-chemicals/patches-mops/bore-patches/mil-spec-gun-cleaning-patches-prod8007.aspx     By the way, we used to say that the worst thing you could do to a piece was not clean it.  The second worst was cleaning it (wrong).  More GI bores were worn out with those jointed steel rods than were ever shot out.  Please take those jointed rods and give them to someone you don't like.  Or use them to stake tomatoes or something, but don't let them be in the same room as your rifle.
  18. Interesting thing about the Sistema's - the first several thousand were made in Connecticutt.  The Sistema is simply a post WWI commercial colt.  Darn fine piece.
  19. The Lord claims vengeance.  Finding a way to ensure they don't do it again is our job.  If they're breathing, they can do it again.
  20. You know what bugs me about it?  Times are tough all over, seems like everyone takes it in the shorts except government.  They tax me more to pay for stuff I don't want them doing in the first place.
  21. Been to a movie recently?  You're putting money in their pockets.
  22. Another vote for the CZ - CZ75BD
  23. He wasn't aiming at the crow.  It just happened to intersect.   There are several choices for long range rifle.  6.5/260 is practical.  The 6.5 swiss is used for elk hunting, so it can handle any soft target you're likely to find in CONUS.  338 Lapua Mag is excellent, if you can afford 2.50 a shot.  308 at 1K yards is pushing it with a semi, but do-able with a long action bolt gun.  The semi's just don't have enough room in the mag for the longer bullets required for consistent results.
  24. The issue with 308 at long range is induced yaw in the bullet.  A longer bullet gives a better BC.  The 6.5's work well at longer ranges without the recoil.
